Last Monday in Santa Monica

Just how far have the pathologies of the inner city really spread?

How far have the pathologies of the inner cities spread into the suburbs? Well, to judge from Bill’s recent experience in Santa Monica, the answer seems to be enough so that rampant lawlessness is absolutely routine.

I was going to say that the REALLY “insane” people are those who voted for Demonrats, but no. They are just as despicably evil as the perpetrators.

Real, debilitating, disabling, mental illness is comparatively rare. It is by no means nonexistent but it’s not, thank God, a common thing either.

What is much, much more common is a disabling mental problem brought on by external influence. Sometimes it’s from an accident that causes a brain injury. Much more common, and the problem plaguing our Blue city streets, is brain damage caused by inhalants and drugs. When an addict can’t get drugs he can get cheap inhalants like paint thinner and worse. That’s where they turn when they can’t get their drug of choice.

Wealthier addicts don’t have this problem, they can afford their drugs and will buy them before they pay rent or get groceries. The mentally ill homeless are the ones who can’t afford their drug of choice, or have used every last penny available to them by work or theft and now must use something else to satisfy their addiction.

Those people have stripped their gears on getting high. The problem you encounter when you see them on the streets is that there’s not much of a human being inside that skull anymore. Many of them, probably the vast majority of them, have either poisoned their brain cells with substances or in a lot of cases they have literally dissolved significant portions of their brain. It’s not “Oh, the poor mentally ill” it’s “This is a self inflicted condition”.

That kind of person is not going to accept any sort of treatment because entering an institution means they have to stop getting high. They’d rather live on the street and get high than accept any kind of help that means not being high.

The solution is not more and better treatment available to more people. The solution is to prevent them from going down that road in the first place. I have no idea how that can be accomplished because the social mechanisms that used to act to prevent that sort of thing are now gone for good. Now it’s “if it feels good, do it” even if that means melting your brain.

“If it feels good, do it”….ACTS…. that’s so 1960’s ……wait…wut? Ohhhhhh.

Yes, that’s how we got here. Clever boy, help yourself to a cookie from the cookie jar.

The solution is to prevent them from going down that road in the first place.

What – root cause evaluation and then trying to find a solution?? This is government if they do that there is no bottomless pile of money to dole out.
My cynicism is high this morning. The problem you stated could be solved but it is not the problem the elites are working on.

Sadly the major problem the elites keep working on is how to increase the power and wealth of the elites. Tragically they do this at the expense of everyone else and with complete disregard for the consequences they generate.

If the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled off is getting people to deny his existence then the greatest trick the elites have pulled off is that they care so much about their fellow man that you should vote for them.

Brilliant, no. Crafty? Possibly….Cunning? Gawd I so much want to break out an old line from Austin Powers Goldmember….but unfortunately, she’s not a cunning linguist.

A Venn diagram of the worst affirmative action hire / dumbest politician ever / best POTUS insurance policy would be a circle around that photo.

You guys are dang near as mean as me. Keep working on it, you’ll get there. 😉

Two thoughts.

  1. Another population inclined to out-of-control behavior is that of individuals who have suffered severe brain trauma. I know of a case caused by a head-on car collision. After recovery, the victim’s character changed fundamentally inclining him to rage and preventing him from keeping a job.
  2. When the power to control criminals is in the power of the state, it can rely on rituals such as uniforms, legal codes, police procedures. To relegate that power to individual citizens removes the rituals and results in much more real costs to society. I just listened to Jonathan Pageau’s talk on ritual behavior. Ritual combat among animals, for example, accomplishes the goal of establishing the hierarchy without killing too many of the population.

Thanks for continuing to wrestle with what all this means!

Vice is a monster of so frightful mien
That to be hated needs but to be seen
But seen too oft, familiar with its face
We first endure, then pity, then embrace. Alexander Pope

This is a single incident that Bill happened to be present to witness. This sort of thing is going on all over Santa Monika and metropolitain Kalifornia all day, every day, day in and day out, 24/7/365. It will only get worse because it must get worse. The zoo is being run from the Monkey House by the monkeys.

I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again and I’ll keep saying it. Bill needs to GTFO of there. It’s a terrible place to live and whatever benefits can still be derived from living there will continue to erode to the point of comparative insignificance as time goes on.

I speak from personal experience, there’s nothing conjectural or theoretical about what I’m saying. I bailed out of the Soviet Socialist Repooblik of Kalifornia more than ten years ago and my life has improved exponentially because I did that.

Our financial contributions are going to the State of California proportional to whatever fraction Bill needs to pay his living expenses and what is spent on content production. I only pay and can only afford a basic membership so my $10 a month doesn’t really give me much of a platform to stand on financially but … Had I my ‘druthers I’d ‘druther that Kalifornia never see a single fraction of a cent from me again. I’d also ‘druther Bill lived out what years are left to him in a better place.

People have all sorts of excuses for staying in that dung heap. None of them are going to seem valid or anywhere nearly so important when the eventual personal tragedies happen to them. Next time one of those nuts might throw a rock at Natasha’s head or something even worse. The situation is only going to get worse because it must get worse. The zoo is being run from the Monkey House by the monkeys.

I wonder if the proper way to go after the ORCs isn’t on the theft side but on the mass sale of stolen goods. That would be both over $1000 and possibly felonies, and provably not “just a loaf of bread” but instead a business.

Likely, considering the political climate in the places where this is a problem, the powers that be would just change the law to decriminalize or make that quasi-legal too. Or instruct police and prosecutors to just ignore these crimes.

The problem is not the Law, the problem is that the law is not being enforced or it is being diluted so that it cannot be enforced.

Gee, I wonder where these came from? On Craigslist.com today. Listing in Sunnyvale, CA. Bay Area.

I’m only guessing at this point, but it’s quite possible old Craig of Craigslist is a willing fence for the ill gotten gains of the organized retail crime gangs.
I mean really….WHO GOES TO CRAIGSLIST FOR RAZORS????

Not just the Bay Area….Bill’s neighborhood too. I ALWAYS wanted a Hiar Clipper. Now I can get one cheap on Craigslist. Courtesy of my local Organized Retail Crime gang….hey Rob Bonta, top cop of California, why not bust fences on Craigs list!

Thats pretty much it. It would not take much to trawl the listinga on cl and ebay, visit the people selling questionable quantities of items and see what they see. Easy to avoid claims of raciam too since the posters dont have profile pictures or other indications.

Am so digging this approach. I) bet you they have more than razors. As in an entire Walgreens worth of inventory. Road trip to Sunnyvale. Hidden camera in hand.

I am not buying into the ‘mental illness’ thing…people acting crazy does not equal mental illness. For the most part it means that the crazies seem to think they are ‘owed’ something they have not earned. And where are they getting that ill idea from…?

Just had a very lengthy, across the dinner table, discussion about this subject with my ultra ultra ULTRA democratic sister in law. California delegate and all that. she’s 75, and remembers Agnews State Hospital in Northern California. Shut down do to budgetary and liberal concerns back in the 60’s by then Gov Reagan, those hospitals provided that safe place for the crazies. Those hospitals, some peaceful sanctuaries, some dreadful poorly run nightmares, have been gone for decades.
I used the leftist canard of “why don’t those rich people pay for big tracks of land, some pre-fab’d hovels, plumbing and most of all – staffing” to help the homeless, insane, and drug crazed? Perhaps 3 different zones per property. Each fenced off. You know, paid for by rich people like zuckerburg, musk, bezos and that oracle guy.
I mentioned to her that it’s so inhumane for us to walk buy, pretend they are invisible, and instead society should help these suffering humans. I took the “rich guy pays” and “poor suffering humans” approach to see if we could come to a common thought, a common understanding.
Guess what? This 75 year old lifelong Democrat couldn’t bring herself to agree with her conservative brother in law, instead she did a KarineJeanPierre and began a rant about “how that horrible Reagan did this, he’s to blame, it’s all bad, it’s all terrible, and it’s all somehow my fault”. Not once could she come up with an idea to remedy, to fix, to solve, to help. Something in her could not allow herself to say something to the effect of “hey, that’s a pretty good idea, let’s flesh this out, tweak it here and there, and maybe we can agree on something helpful and useful”. Nope. Just a fronting argument to say she’s so concerned, we’re so bad, and it’s all my fault. I used my best canards, and she still couldn’t/wouldn’t bite on it. That’s your new aged Democrat. Frustrating.
Don’t get me wrong! I’m not suggesting those “rich guys” pay for anything. Hell, they practically already do pay for MOST everything right now. I was just trying to get her to bite. Nope.
But if we lived in a sane society with a responsible set of representatives in the county, the state and the federal houses, we could decide one day to stop funding Hummaz, the PLO, proxy wars, cut out a couple years of National Endowment for the Arts, Political Science grants, and not pay for hotels for illegals, maybe buy 5 less of the next Air Force bird, stop upgrading the Kennedy Center, eliminate Voice Of America and so on and so on……maybe we could scrape up enough in all the major traumatized cities to create such properties. It’s been tried once in L.A.. Not sure how that turned out.
I said ….”If”…..so the suffering and crazy only get’s worse. Thanks Democrats.

A phrase that helped me make my peace with Lefties who are so howlingly wrong is a simple one – “You can’t reason someone out of a position they haven’t reasoned themselves into”

Your sister-in-law and the Democrats do not have a monopoly on this sort of behavior. The same crap happens in here all the time too. It’s just that the rationalization and sophistry is on our side but it’s still rationalization and sophistry.

Try to have a conversation with a Trump Zealot about Donald Trump’s faults if you need a good example. Or do what I did and lay out the problems and the fixes for the situation in the Middle East right now just to have someone use my post to whine about our political opponents. Etc.

When people won’t have honest conversations ostensibly so that they can think they “win” an argument there is no communication. If there’s no communication there can be no solutions. If we can’t rise above this condition ourselves then it’s no surprise that those with even less morality and nearly no foundational reasoning based on reality would do it, and do it even more.

BTW, the way around your sister-in-law’s nonsense is to “stipulate” that she’s right. Just say …

“OK, assuming that you’re right and Ronald Reagan is at fault, and I’m not saying he is but Reagan wasn’t infallible either, then what do we do about this NOW? Because digging 30 years into the past to mine a reason for using Reagan as a scapegoat does not solve a damn thing today. Unless you care to claim that Reagan was so powerful nothing he did can be undone even though he’s long dead. You’re just making excuses for why you don’t need to help fix this.Clearly this is not something you want to fix. Because you’re not addressing the problem, you’re just deflecting.”

Don’t get pulled into the traps people like her use. They know how to set and spring those traps because they have a LOT of practice doing that. Avoid their area of expertise, which in this case is lies and scapegoating and stick to your own area of expertise. Which is truth and logic. Their “killer arguments” only work on other’s of their own ilk. Don’t let them work on you, you’re not the sort that kind of thing should work on.

Now that old sis in law has just survived a pretty gnarly tumor removal near her heart/lung/voicebox (it was rather large), and now that our time of sister care is complete, we’ll get together once again in healthier circumstances and I’ll broach the subject again. If she goes in the predicted direction I think, I’ll use ACTS tactic of ‘ what do we do NOW’, as in “together” to help humanity?
Will report the results in a future blog post.
BTW today’s report of billionaires contributing to the latest save San Francisco campaign, named “It all Starts Here” about how cool the city is and can be again, if only you weasels would STOP LEAVING IN DROVES, you’d see that the image of San Francisco being crime ridden, covered in needles and feces (human) is only the result of a carefully crafted narrative created by meanie conservatives. 4 Million dollar ad and billboard and poster campaign.
All comments on the report were in the realm of “good luck”, “maybe that money would be better spent scraping feces and needles off the sidewalk” and “perhaps more cops on the beat to prevent auto smash and grabs”.

I love having conversations with people like your sister-in-law. Especially when I can goad them, politely and civilly, into being snarky and condescending.
Like …

“How does what Reagan did 40 years ago excuse what is going on today? Democrats claim to have all the answers to every social ill. Why are things getting worse and worse instead of improving? Why are so many people fleeing California if things are so wonderful here? It can’t be because things are so much worse in the rest of America, if that were so they’d be fleeing to here not from here. So the rest of America, even those Democrat enclaves across the nation, must be doing something better than we are.”

Etc.

Don’t let her play the blame game, make her wear the blame she has earned in destroying California.

Then when they come back with that crappy attitude about how I must be stupid and cruel because I don’t understand their “theories” that don’t work and the help that they give which destroys people … It’s on. It’s time to tee up “I want to help people too, you need to join me in that. Because what you’re doing does more harm than good. That’s why things are worse than they used to be. If what you want to do worked I’d be all for it. Clearly it does not work. So how do we fix this?”

At that point they will always start talking about spending a lot of money that gets no one anywhere and you can start dismantling their policies bit by bit, piece by piece.

I.E. “How is giving people just enough money to barely get by so much better for them than a thriving economy with good paying jobs? Jobs that boost the tax revenue stream so there’s money to help the truly needy instead of making everyone needy and draining the tax coffers instead of filling them? Except for the fact of keeping people dependent on your party forces them to vote for you, that is if they want to keep eating. That’s not politics, it’s blackmail.”

I could go on and on, and I’d love to but you get the idea I’m sure.

One clarification to add for the subsequent discussion – Reagan hasn’t been Gov of CA for almost 50 years. Also the push to eliminate Psychiatric Hospitals did not come from the political right. “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” was a 1975 film but the book was from 1962.
The exposure of how bad Psych hospitals were started in the 60s and even then no one had a solution. So rather than spend more bad money, Reagan turned off the spigot.
Since 1975 there have been 7 Governors (well technically 6 as Jerry Brown was twice non-consecutively) 3 R (if you count Arnold) and 4 D.

I look forward to when the Civil war starts because ALL these people will die just like in the purge. I have seen men defending themselves when women slap them by slapping the women back and people celebrating

I hope you don’t mean an actual Civil War but are speaking metaphorically. Because I’ve seen an actual Civil War up close and personal. You wouldn’t want that if you knew what it involves. Life is not a movie, there is no script with the Good Guys winning at the end. Anything like The Purge is the end of America. Citing that movie is a sick, absurd fantasy. If you’re serious you should seriously be ashamed of yourself.

If an actual Civil War is what you are looking forward to then that’s as insane as anything concocted by the Left. They want to destroy America, an actual Civil War would have the same effect. You’d do their work for them. Even if we win the physical and societal damage would be insurmountable and unrecoverable. The United States of America as we know it would cease to exist. I can provide arguments for why that is so. I understand what’s involved in war due to personal experience not couch time absorbing entertainment.

If you understand what Civil War is all about then you’re as bad as the Leftist enemies of America. You share common ground with them which makes you no different than them. A wolf in sheep’s clothing calling for the same thing. If you don’t truly understand then you should avoid adopting and promoting catastrophic opinions derived from ignorance.

Whenever I see someone say something like you said I know they have no idea what it is they think they want. Or they wouldn’t want it and would not say that.

That’s a red line we really don’t want to cross. If you do, Life doesn’t go on as normal, Walmarts don’t keep selling toilet paper, toilets don’t keep flushing, clean water doesn’t keep flowing through pipes, truckers don’t keep delivering canned goods, when we’re all killing each other. The frustration is real, but the sentiment puts us in a place of poop on our hands, giardia in place of food in our stomachs, and sewer lines backing up into our bedrooms. That and where are we going to put all the dead bodies. Don’t cross the red line.

It’s been my experience that people who talk like Donald are living out a fantasy movie in their own mind. With them in the hero’s role.

This becomes a near certainty when you see them citing a movie as an example of anything. Not even a good movie at that, a “B” movie based on a silly premise.

Our friend Donald better not live in a city. If he does then he’s living a much better life, even with Leftist politics all around him, than he ever could hope for during a Civil War.

I live in the country. I have equipment, implements and land that I could use to grow food. I have hunting and fishing available to me also. I’ve been places where subsistence farming and gathering is how people stay alive. That’s no picnic either. Little or no fertilizer means rock bottom crop yields. What you do grow is subject to weeds and bug losses because no herbicides or pesticides either. The fish and the game soon exhausted and no longer available because instead of being managed everyone is eating everything they can get their hands on. A barter economy where you have little or nothing to trade and neither does anyone else.

Just imagine how much worse things would be in a city.

Also if he lives in a city, no matter how well he thinks he’s armed, he would have to contend with thousands, tens of thousands, of “enemy”. An enemy made up of people who are used to the government giving them what they need to survive and even those used to earning their own living left with nothing their money will buy. All those people are going to be happy to relieve Donald of his arms and provisions post haste.

All while being stuck in enemy territory and treated the same as the enemies surrounding him. An artillery shell, tank round or a gravity bomb doesn’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican.

I’d give him a week, maybe a month if he’s real lucky, before he’d be wishing the war he looked forward to never started. He might get to “purge” a goblin or two but those have their own people too. They’ll go looking for Donald just like I would if he “purged” someone I cared about.

As others have mentioned below, the therapists are a primary cause of the problem. When I was stationed in Germany many decades ago, my teenage daughter started acting up around the base because she was upset about having to leave her friends when we moved. Eventually, my tour was cut short by a year, and we were sent back to the U.S. so she could get psychological treatment. After the first session, my daughter came out and told us that the psychologist told her that she did nothing wrong, and she was justified in her actions. So I don’t think therapists are going to solve anything.

DA’s and the Judicial system and those instructing them (their puppet masters) are the problem creating this new paradigm.
I should add that it is the therapists, sociologists and that woke ilk that have gotten us here!

Wouldn’t it be nice if our society respected people enough to institutionalize the insane, the criminal, and the unstable? But liberals told us forty years ago that we had to release criminals, the unstable, and the insane; and there they are living on the street, doing drugs, and stealing from every store in CA.

Years ago I went into a small grocer on my block, there was a mother and her little boy in the store. While she was paying, the little boy was behind her picking out candies from the shelf and leisurely putting them in his pocket. The mother knew the kid was taking the candy, normal behavior for mother/kid. I looked at the owner behind the cash register and he shook his head, he didn’t want me to say anything. Black woman, Korean grocer. This was about 30 years ago in San Francisco, in an area bordering a low cost housing apartment complex.

As someone much smarter than I am once said – you get more of what you subsidize.
CA has a growing homeless / poor population because they keep giving more benefits to the “underprivileged”. As Keith points out, there are jobs available, but many people know that they can live just as well or better on the public dole.
One of my B-I-L’s has family that are well versed in the entitlement process, which here in VA is much less than in CA. Yet, they get from the system every penny they can. They worked as teachers, retired as soon as they could and use the system to make up for that which they can’t afford on their pensions.
The next generation is worse. They never tried to be self-sufficient. One even purposely didn’t get married so that as a “single” mom she got money from the state.
***N.B. – the inherent jerk in me did laugh when I found out that “dad” left and since they weren’t married he doesn’t have to pay any alimony. Still have some child support but since most of his work was off the books, that’s pretty low, too. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.****
The other had a record for drug possession and decided that since she “couldn’t” get a “good” job, what the state gave her was fine along with the free cell phone and other items.
We are really f’ed up as a society.
But – you get more of what you subsidize and this is where we put our collective money.

Talk to Jordan Peterson if you think therapists are going to be any solution to our current problems. If anything, therapists are a MAJOR part of what is wrong.

Sorry, Bill, but I have ZERO sympathy for those poor schmucks – and you might be one of them – who VOLUNTARILY live in that hellhole called California.
Twenty years ago I witnessed an episode of complete lunacy in Arcata, CA. I won’t bore your readers with the details, but let me just point out that the hotel clerk admitted that the lunacy was sanctioned by the California Supreme Court. I knew then that California was lost. That was 20 years ago. You can ratchet up the insanity accordingly to today as to what you encountered.
I don’t care about that lunatic who attempted to steal stuff and then broke a window out of anger. She is nothing but a pox on the state you live in. She apparently is in need of help of some kind. Who’s going to provide that “help”, Bill? The California taxpayer? Or some other poor schmuck? The loss prevention guy who seemed bored because he’s seen the same lunacy over and over and over again?
My bottom line question is – other than talk about this episode, what are you going to do about it, Bill? I have a suggestion — GTFO out California. It is lost and will not be recovered. Such is the nature of that beast.

I can’t find employees. The pay is much better than minimum wage and there are benefits, but even so, there’s not enough reimbursement to afford an apartment, their cell phone, their gas money, or cable TV. On top of that, there are all these people making major bank as Tic-Tok personalities, often offensive or horribly inane, attracting more and more idiocy on line for dollars that seem to be falling out of the sky. Either way, work not making enough to live or dumbass idiocy being awarded financially, the future of the working class is not looking good. Many will end up living in California in these tent cities and get exposed to drugs and start stealing and vandalizing like Bill’s example.
