“If communities don’t give that support and respect, they might find themselves without the police protection they need,” says U.S. Attorney General William Barr, the top law enforcement officer in the federal government. Should this implied threat worry residents of those communities? To whom is he speaking? Is there a racial component to his remarks or are Trump administration critics reading into it for their own political benefit?

So much to say, but for now just a simple.. cops are people just like anyone else. We just have a very unique job (or calling depending on how you perceive the work)… Robert Peel said it best in his (paraphrase) rules for LE… It’s a team effort. Either side looses track of their responsibilities, the whole thing comes crashing down…. just sayin’
If police are not appreciated, and are actually assaulted by communities when they show up, then later hamstrung by city leaders who won’t let them do their jobs–like in some sections of Baltimore–they will send fewer and fewer police into that area because more and more police will have resigned and moved on. It’s a numbers game, not an intent game. The correct answer is to elect mayors who demand that police clean up crime neighborhoods and fully support them when they do. Chicago could be cleared up in a day if the mayor wanted it so, but he doesn’t. Again, as we saw in Baltimore, when the DA and mayor don’t support police, or make stupid policies like disarming police, police quickly become both ineffective and persecuted. I think the AG was simply stating this fact, not trying out federal policy. It’s more of a police POV than a governmental policy that they’re not going to try to enforce the law. He’s kind of stating the obvious to cops. Now, if he called for a “national police force,” then yes, we would be greatly alarmed. But he did not. That’s more of a thing the Left would desire than the Right.
Right now an interesting development is taking place here in Virginia. If you haven’t heard, you will soon. The Democrats won the whole assembly in the last election and the governor is hard at work setting up legislation to actively outlaw every semi-automatic weapon in the state and to begin active confiscation of all semi-auto firearms and “assault weapons” by police. He claims he intends actual door-to-door confiscation. This is a clear violation of the 2nd Amendment and inherently un-Constitutional. He intends to make felons of law-abiding citizens and to deny them their rights to keep and bear arms. He makes no bones about it. In response, many police departments and sheriffs have said they will NOT enforce these new laws as the police are sworn to protect the Constitution just like the military and every elected official is. So, here we have police doing what they should do, protecting citizens from their own tyrannical government. For those police who do try to confiscate, they are executing tyranny and this constitutes the situation for an actual shooting war in this state, because anyone sworn to protect the Constitution is obligated by their oath to take up arms and stop any attack on the Constitution. I think this gun-grab will fail because (a) there are too many guns in the population and not enough police to go door-to-door to get them (b) most police have no desire to do this as loyal Americans (c) the legislation will likely get halted with lawsuits on all levels and (d) the citizens outnumber police and are better armed and willing to die to keep their rights, meaning many police will be killed if they try, as well as many otherwise law-abiding citizens, it is very disturbing that an elected body of Democrats would attempt such tyranny against the citizens that elected them. The PR will quickly turned against the state government if they are seen to be killing law abiding citizens in an attempt to take away their rights, resulting in a ground swell rebellion against the legislature in Richmond. The Left and the American people are on a collision course in Virginia, and unless some common ground is found soon, Old Dominion may be ground zero for a coming rebellion. Any police who try to enforce a tyrannical, un-Constitutional law, are breaking the law, because it’s an illegal law. That’s why I think most won’t. But for those who do, we go back to the old line from Billy Jack: “When policemen break the law, then there isn’t any law…just a fight for survival.” Keep your eyes on VA. I think the AG needs to come down firmly on the side of protecting the Constitution and making it known the current administration will never support this gun grab on a Constitutional basis. The governor and his cronies are feeling victory is within their grasp, but the citizens of Virginia are getting very, very angry.
Didn’t Obama call for, (or suggest as a trial balloon,) a national police force?
Obama, Holder, et al basically told US the police don’t deserve respect.
The first thing that popped into my mind when I heard AG Barr’s comment was the video of NYC officers getting water dumped on them while conducting an arrest. This is a great example of lack of community respect. I thought you’d bring this up but it took a different path. If I were one of those officers and got a call back at that intersection, would I want to go and assist?
