Bill, mostly, Scott & Steve I have wondered for some time now why you don’t add in, at least from time to time, a video clip or a pic or something to add a visual to the shows. I first found Bill I guess during the Afterburner and Firewall days. Some of those were extremely well done along with the effects added in. I’m sure that is more time consuming because of editing and post production, script writing and a myriad assortment of things that I have no clue about. I know you guys put out lots of content, but sometimes it seems like more quantity but less quality. I just wonder if others feel the same way. I remember you speaking of it, that people won’t watch, or I’m sure listen to, something more than a couple of minutes long. I know myself I don’t have time to watch all the stuff you put out each week. Maybe adding in news clips instead of having Scott read a section of what somebody or other has said, or a short video of some incident instead of a description of it would feel like things are moving along faster or just add visual interest. I know Bill likes that kind of thing, it’s part of his schooling. I know YouTube has demonitized your stuff so you have to really watch the budget. I’ve been one of your staunchest supporters for a number of years & will continue to do so. Just some musings from a big fan. Bill MIGHT remember me from his trip to Northwood University in Michigan. I’m the old fat guy that looked like Santa amongst all those young college kids and I was one who said when you first started on your own that I would join up when I got my next pension check. I did and I’m glad of it and will continue to be a supporter.

I think Bill will get back to some Firewall type stuff eventually. But the other part is something Bill has discussed in several TSL over the years and Scott would have the analytics to back up. The low production value, let’s talk type of stuff on YT does better from a hit perspective than the flashy, “TV Show” type. Think of Mike Rowe sitting at his kitchen table with his morning coffee and just speaking into his lap top.
Even on BWNow, when Scott tells Bill we need to wrap up for top of the hour news; it’s really because they can see the number of people watching tapers off after a certain amount of time; even if it is interesting content.
I first found the guys at the other network and then found Bill’s Afterburners. Those are what brought me around and I miss those too. But I have grown fond of the quantity of the content rather than the flash.
Richard, thank you for your Membership, and for the encouragement along the way. You’ve hinted at a couple of the answers to your question. Rights and royalties and demonetization all come into play. Time and expense are huge factors. The shows, as we do them now (and from the beginning), are really radio shows where you can watch the hosts. In fact, many thousands of people just listen to the podcast versions. Bill is the only full-timer on the team. His little 5-10 minute video essays over the years consumed vast hours. That said, when we get to a financial threshold that will allow additional staffing, we’d all like to see more production work. Again, we appreciate your Membership and the commitment you’ve made.
