This episode is the reason I subscribe to BW.com. I would never have known about these two men doing such great work. Thank you Bill, Steve and Scott.
What a great episode for Thanksgiving Day!
I think back to the Indonesian Christmas tsunami in 2004. Governments all over the world were pledging funds for disaster relief. Apparently, the U.S. government didn’t give as much as some thought they should, and were criticized for it. What was largely ignored was the fact that private American citizens ponied up in amounts which made what governments were doing look paltry in comparison. It’s a well known truth that Americans are the most generous people on Earth, and it’s because this is what freedom makes possible.
God bless America!
I don’t suppose we sent a small task force over to help clean up or run search and rescue, paid for by a lot of tax money instead of just handing the cash to ill-equipped locals?
My cousin is in the Navy CBs and was in Pakistan after they had an earth quake and mudslide. The folks there had TVs though that showed them the devastation of hurricane Katrina and finding out my cousin’s troop was based in Mississippi asked why they were even there. His response, or that of whomever was asked (I’m not sure) was “You need us.”
Like I haven’t cried enough today, I bawled through this one. Beauty and bravery do that to me.
I couldn’t help but remember The Wild Boar soccer team from Thailand.
That rescue wasn’t strictly American, but free people–highly trained rescue divers–from the free world and elsewhere (Thailand isn’t exactly ‘free’ in the sense an American understands) got the call and said “Yeah, I’ll put my life on hold, risk my life for weeks, and see if we can’t rescue those 11 boys and their young coach.”
One diver died in the attempt.
And the boys were rescued.
Free people. This is what we do.
Sidenote: I’m scuba qualified though I don’t dive anymore, and the idea of diving with zero visibility makes me panic and I’m not even underwater. Good Lord.
Bill Whittle and boys, I’ve been too long away.
Frederick Douglass said “I do not despair of this country,” and I’m not going to despair, either.
I subscribed to their channel to support them. It’s a great message for Thanksgiving. Thank you.
So good to see you upbeat again, Bill. Thank you for sharing this wonderful episode . Absolutely perfect for Thanksgiving!
Good men, and good women, doing good of their own volition — Is the glue that holds society together. It is the spirit of positive effects.
In contrast, the Left openly and loudly wishing death and misery on their political opponents while receiving no censure from their side — Is the solvent trying to break down society. It is the spirit of negative effects.
When the latter manages to overcome the former, society must collapse. This isn’t debateable, it’s not even questionable. It doesn’t matter what people say it matters what they do. In the case of the Left, what they say is clearly intended to mask what they are actually doing.
This is the simplest and most direct way of viewing whether someone is a benefit or detriment to their fellow human beings. There are symptomatic “tells”, flagged behaviors that cannot be hidden. The side that invented the words “hate speech” is the greater in net hatreds by far.
I suppose that is tied into the trust of a high-trust society. The part that makes people not cheat on their taxes or skip in line or anything else that means you won’t be a chump or cheated if you follow the rules.
I suppose also you need to have enough extra that you can give some but as a percentage, it seems those with the least tend to be the ones that give the most. Knowing the value of something because you have so little of it seems to make us value it more, be thankful for it more, and be willing to share it more.
If you obey the rules then you have the right to expect protection by the rules also. Even felons who commit crimes (don’t follow the rules) are protected by the rules anyway.
That is the implied contract under The Rule of Law.
Which makes an even greater tragedy of all the people who suffered harm as a result of the rioting last year, and some who are still suffering this year.
They counted on The Rule of Law and the people who we charge with maintaining our Law refused to do their duty. In doing so they have created a lot of voters who have fled their camp. All to appease a tiny, destructive, dangerous, irrational minority.
Very true, the principle you describe is mirrored in the story of the Widow’s Mite in the Bible. She gave all she had regretting she didn’t have more to give and the wealthy give by scale if not quantity much, much less.
It is less charitable to give only what won’t be missed anyway. Even so, it is gladly received by those in need and to be commended. It’s not charitable at all to take from others through force in the name of yet other people and feel smugly assured by the false virtue in doing so.
I read a story about a Good samaritan that helped pick up a motorcycle and when the cops showed up the good Samaritan didn’t want to talk to the cops so the cop broke his shoulder and NOTHING was done to the cop. I would guess that you 3 have never done good and messed with simply because you helped, I have
The old saying “No good deed goes unpunished” is applicable all too often.
It’s not the fact that it happens that is the determining factor. It’s the fact that people will still do good regardless that’s important.
The footage of these guys finding that North Carolina boy is riveting. Bless these guys. God bless them.
Check out Dave Sparks’ recent video where he learned a farmer had lost his crop and could not afford to feed his cows. He organized a long trip from Idaho to bring him 100 tons of hay and it cost the farmer nothing.
This is one episode that causes me to wish for more stars to up-vote. Bill’s closing remarks and photo montage brought tears to my eyes.
Thank you.
Wow – perfect epidsode to take us into Thanksgiving.
Have a happy Thanksgiving, everybody
This is a great video. I can personally attest to the uncertainty surrounding the death of a family member or just what did happen to your loved one. Sometimes you know that they died ,, but were never able to know what it was that took them. Uncertainty–Bill is so right about that. Even with an autopsy being done, the Medical examiners/pathologists sometimes can only make guesses!
I am so glad to know there are persons like these good guys who help people to remove their doubts, to grieve and to find a way forward to go on with their lives. God Bless each every one of them.
