Four satellite launches into the Space Race, and the score—in terms of pounds put into orbit—is Communism, 1300; Capitalism, 33. And the humiliations keep on coming. In history’s biggest sales pitch ever, the Soviet Union is handing the United States its backside on a platter. But then a new capsule, the space equivalent of a ’66 Corvette Stingray convertible starts to get some real traction as the Cold War gets hotter.

Fabulous job, Mr. Whittle. But no way would I put a photo of my teen self in any public forum. Kudos to you.
I will make sure my grandchildren, and my children for that matter, watch this series.
Very well written, delivered and executed! It not only presents what I remember watching with my new wife in 69, it provides a great deal of background information, some of which I didn’t know. Thanks for the effort, Bill. I can’t wait to see the rest!
Simply masterly. Looking forward to the rest of it.
It is a crying shame that this video had only 205 views on YouTube after I finished watching it.
If what John says is true, consider this comment deleted. Which I can’t actually seem to do.
FYI, for some reason this is the link from the production company, but the same video is also posted by the Daily Wire – THAT one has 16k+ views and counting. Possible they are separating out the views directly through BWDC?
As an experiment, I went to YT and searched just now for “what we saw”. Part 1 has 81k+ views, Part II has 34k+ views.
Then I clicked the link above. That video has 579 views.

This is the address just going to YT and searching:

They are definitely playing games this way depending how you get to the video.
Beautifully written and perfectly performed. This should be on tv. The enthusiasm infused oration is filled with passion and exceptional knowledge. This show should make you proud, Bill. I feel the same pride in the USA you do. I remember the landing very well, watching with my father who was a former Air Force pilot and an aeronautical engineer. I was brought up with the same extreme interest in the flights in space. Kids should see this. Very cool set, too.
I’m glad you told the Leonov EVA story. One of my favorite parts about Space Camp was listening to the staff make fun of the Russians.
Although, according to them, Leonov did get the bends, and then when the Apollo-Soyuz docking happened, there was a pressure differential (Soyuz had earth air pressure, Apollo had reduced pressure) and Leonov got the bends again.
Never been able to find a source that backed that story up.
I noted the same, so I went to You Tube and searched “Apollo What we saw”. Episode II popped up. Perfect. Really. Perfect. I can’t ask for more and I can’t wait for III. Bill, I am learning so much about our Apollo history that I swore I already knew, but didn’t. Thank you for all of your hours of writing and performing this amazing project.
Another great show – I love the autobiographical parts, Bill!
It’s missing the leading “h”. Here is the correct link: https://youtu.be/-fpcBxqgiWc
Thanks!
I fixed it.
You did, indeed.
I click. I get “This address wasn’t understood.”
