Apple Releases Security Updates for Multiple Products

This is just a ‘heads up’ for all you Apple fan boys out there …

This is from the U.S. Government CISA.  An organization that I’ve seen some in here slag on because it’s (fill in your favorite paranoid fantasy here).

Apple has released security updates to address vulnerabilities in multiple products. An attacker could exploit some of these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected device.

CISA encourages users and administrators to review the following advisories and apply the necessary updates.

That should cover these and any other “pushed” updates but it never hurts to check either. Sometimes the updates get ‘stuck’ and don’t run properly, they want to install when the device is not busy but people have things running on them 24/7 so they’re never not busy, and various other bugs and glitches that can prevent a vital patch or update from being installed as it should even if it’s set to automatic.

I check for OS updates a few times every week. I have “Patch Tuesday” as a repeating entry on my calendar every month. I run every single software update as soon as I become aware of it whether it’s OS or programs. If an update causes problems, which is a very rare thing with a mature operating system, I fix the problems not abandon updating. However …

Some people do not have their devices set to automatically install updates and patches. Some people have decided for whatever silly reason to disable automatic updates. Some people think that there’s something inherently defective with anything that needs regular updates and patches. Some people are woefully ignorant about this sort of thing.

I’ve seen that sort of person, and more than one for sure, commenting on this site so when I see something really drastic I just post a blog to remind people that this is an important, responsible, reasonable and prudent part of owning network capable devices in the modern age.

Sadly it has been my observation that the very worst among the ignorers and deniers for the need for this sort of thing has been people who use Apple products. By a significant and disproportionate margin. Apple product users tend to be much, much less savvy about this stuff.

Among no doubt many other reasons, your wife should be grateful that you do this kind of stuff for her.

For my part, I wouldn’t touch one of those damned things with someone else’s stick but each to his own.

Thanks, an like Harry I appreciate the assistance.
As to why a Mac for my wife, given what she does it is more than sufficient. Shopping / Streaming Music / Facetime with Ronette when she was at school etc, it made sense as she could do less damage than with a Windows machine.
She has no need for spreadsheets or writing. And the handful of times I used it to do video presentations with attached music, I did find iMovie to be very easy to learn and apply.
I started using it for her end of the year videos for when she was still teaching plus a really nice one for her retirement party.
I use my work PC when I need to do anything application driven. Otherwise I use a windows tablet for my needs, which are largely watching RA and the like.
Though I will check to see if she or Ronette didn’t disable updates. 😉
