Après nous le déluge

Was watching BW Now over breakfast this morning.  The episode about Clinton flack Joe Lockhart advocating letting Trump destroy the GOP on his own, which he surely will.

I agree w/ Joe.   But not for the reasons Joe states.

I jumped to comment on the vid.  But on further thought, I figured it would be a better opportunity for my first blog post.  Joe is right, sorta.  Trump will cause the Republicans to destroy themselves.  But it’s not Trump’s crass, carnival barker style that’ll drive away the voters.  Voters won’t be repelled by his bellicose style and philistine history.  That’s baked in the cake w/ a man we’ve known since the late 70’s.  And I’m not voting for a parent, a pastor, a mentor or a role model.  I’m voting for someone to tame this voracious leviathan in DC.  And, let’s face it, most of the greatest men in history have been raving jack-asses in their personal lives.

So why will Trump, IMAO, destroy the Republicans?  Because I do not see an inheritor to his presidency w/in the party.   There is no-one, or better yet a wing w/in the party, ready to step up in ’25 to assume the mantle of an aggressively pro-American, ant-ACELA Corridor…   populist, for lack of a better word.

What I see happening in ’25 is a power vacuum created by Trump exiting. And, flooding into that vacuum will be all the GOPe types that have been ousted these last few years.  Bushes and Romenys.  McCains and Kristols.  Neo-Cons and Country Club Republicans.  All looking to regain the positions of prominence and respect they held prior to Orange Man Bad.  Sure, the rank and file hates them, but even if they realize that, they don’t care.  Long as the important people in NY and DC give them the positions and respect they deserve.

Thing is though, the’ve been exposed for what they are.  Elitist and self-serving.  Say the right things to the rubes but go along to get along once their position has been secured for the next 2-6yrs.  And I don’t think the rubes are going to play along any more.  GOPe cannidates are going to get slaughtered due an unmotivated electorate.   The occasional indie on the ballot will either self-destruct for lack of experience or be destroyed by the party elite.

The result?  Republicans and conservatives in the wilderness for at least 8yrs.  Maybe more.  And it’ll be worse if Trump exits the stage in ’21.

I could think of a few people who could fill the void effectively. Ted Cruz, Dan Crenshaw, Mike Rowe, and Mike Pence just to name a few. We all know Bill would make a great president, but I wouldn’t ever wish the presidency on him, knowing how much he would hate it.

Agree w/ all those picks. But I don’t think any of them would either run or have enough appeal outside the base if they did. Unfortunately the left has already made sure that Pence is damaged goods. I like Cruz but, man, he was way overconfident in the last campaign and it almost bit him in the ass.

OTOH Dan’s someone to keep an eye on. *rim shot*

Oh no. I’m one of the crew at the venue. One of the guys that mic’d up the drums and then told musician jokes backstage.

Like, what’s the difference tween a bull and an orchestra?

On a bull, the horns are up front and the assh**e is in the back.
