The pandemic lockdown was expected to create a baby boom — as young couples spent more time together alone — but the reverse has happened. Has anti-natalism, the belief that reproduction is morally wrong, created a baby bust. Are young people avoiding pro-creation because they don’t want to bring new lives into this awful, terrible, doomed world — or avoiding pregnancy to make the Earth safer for other — non-human — species?

In Genesis One “God said . . . be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.”
Seems pretty clear to me.
I am not a biblical scholar but is it dominate and subdue the earth, or to provide stewardship for it and the other animal/plant residents on it (and maybe even the microbes within its crust?)?
Or maybe this dictum from Genesis was really being directed at the various plague germs that have swarmed over the earth on an episodic basis, rather than humanity. Just a thought.
I am not a Biblical scholar either, but it seems to Me (not Biblical that I am aware of) that the concept of stewardship over the earth is part of God’s directive. I went to see other translations of this passage and there are too many to copy here, but here is the link to other translations
https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/Genesis%201:28
It appears to My unschooled mind that some translations are literal (word for word) and some are much looser. Check it out and see what you think.
This statistical study raises an interesting question. How many babies are conceived out side the home in the work place, the gym, a friends place, etc? All the things that were shutdown by covid 19.
I’d say about 27.394678%. It’s the bars! When the bars were barred, the concept of conception went away as inconceivable. 🙂
Yep condoms are easy if your sober.
These population people have a huge problem predicted by Garret Harden in his Tragedy of the Commons paper. Science 1968. Harden warned about the problem of the left not reproducing at replacement numbers but the right, conservatives, do reproduce at or above replacement value. In the conclusion of the Tragedy of the Commons paper he advocated enforced birth control directed at conservatives, undesirable minorities and other non socialist groups. The hardens were closely associated with the Chinese one child policy. He and his wife also advocated euthanasia of the elderly, hemlock society, and suicided in 2003. The Hardens did have children but the Wikipedia article on then edits that out. Or perhaps the children did that themselves. The hardens were particularly fanatical opponents of Christian groups like the Catholics and the Amish that had big family’s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrett_Hardin

that’s changed. conservative women also (now) don’t have babies. not their thing anymore. especially whites. that’s not hyperbole or what may be coming at some point down the road. it’s here and it’s real.
Sadly in some places that’s true but that to is a self- erasing feminist subset of conservatism. Finding a good wife is a challenge for us older conservatives.
i am 72 and this is my own personal opinion….
trying to find a good wife is a complete waste of your valuable and shrinking time my friend.
good hunting and tally ho.
I’ve argued directly with these people face to face. There a several common denominators. They are almost always socialist that believe in a zero sum global economic model. They believe in a fixed unchangeable pool of resources worked on to produce goods for a given population. If any party wants more another party must have less. Some expand this ‘party’ definition to plants and animals not just humans. they are often engineers or biologists. One I argued was the founder and master of the geography department I attended at uni. He was a very nice man.
They do not believe free-market, resource shifting, resource innovation, can increase the pool of resources to man and nature. They do not believe degraded nature can be restored. They see capitalism as just an efficient way to rob nature and the worker.
Socialism has failed to deliver the wealth for all it promised so they conclude that wealth for all is impossible. Therefore to increase the wealth for one of them there needs to be fewer people. I pointed out all sorts of alternatives including resource shifting, with examples, space colonization, small archologies, etc. They reject all as unnatural. My conclusion is that these are burned out socialists that refuse to recognize that capitalism works and respond to Marxism’s failure to deliver by rejecting the very idea that the thing can or should be delivered at all.
scott had the great thought. future generations that will never come to be.
yup.
the truth is that the (vast)) majority of those leftists that believe it is morally wrong (or wrong for some other reason) to have babies are female and females, on aggregate, tend to lean left which is why they make up the largest demographic base of the left. THAT’S why the birth rates across the world are going down and unless or until someone comes up with a better widget that will continue. the end game is obvious. when and if the human genome ever gets there is anyones’ guess.
unfortunately…as i predicted with the birth rates.
Good. Old fucks need to pay for their own shit and stop expecting the next generation to pay for their hip replacements and Viagra.
did your parents not feed you when you were in diapers?
I’ll pay for my own parents needs, and I’ll donate to charity, but it’s disgusting to see the old saddle the young with their lifetime of failure and irresponsibility. Investing in your children (time & money) is a good strategy to ensure that they will be there for you, but if your not doing anything to make the future better for yourself and your children you deserve what you get and it’s not the responsibility of future generations to bail your lazy ass out.
Basically I hate the idea that the only reason we should have kids is to saddle them with the retirement debt of the previous generation, which is how the government views the problem.
Fewer liberals reproducing? Problem solved!
“Hope for humanity” is a political meme, now. The hope that our grandparents had was bloody, sweaty and had callouses. The hope that my parents had was stressful and demanding. My hope is sitting at a desk and meeting clients.
Weaker people, weaker hope.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…Genetic Entropy. Nothing is getting better. We’re now losing the ability to learn from the past. That ability to write things down and learn from them, was the only thing that allowed us to improve at all. As we lose more and more genetic information from our DNA, we have to make more things to make up for the loss. Remember when you could memorize hundreds of phone numbers, but now we can’t even remember where we put the car keys? lol
Seriously though…the Biblical account supports what we’ve found out about our DNA. The generation that will see the return of the Son of God, the Son of Man, is here now. The season is near, we just won’t know the day or the hour.
Our hope should never be in Man, but in Christ Jesus.
What genetic, DNA information is being lost? How is this happening? What is the evidence that this occurs?

Not the appropriate forum for musings on your religion.
Oh…I’m sorry, I didn’t know free speech was verboten on a website full of Christians. lol
Is there to be free speech on this website?
Are you intentionally misunderstanding the difference between verboten and inappropriate? This may be, as you say, a website full of Christians, but it’s not a website explicitly for Christians; it’s a website for lovers of liberty. I’m not offended by your comment, it just has very little to do with the subject of the video and borders on religious proselytization, which in mixed company is usually considered impolite.
If what you claim is true, then this is not the appropriate forum for any musing whatsoever. This is a semi-public forum after all, and we all contribute to its upkeep. Thus, it seems logical that either we all may use this space for our musings or none may do so. I pity anyone with such a narrow mindset that no alternative perspectives/beliefs are welcome.
Ultimately, if you don’t like the musings of some, then don’t read them.
The logic for “if some musing is inappropriate, then all musing is inappropriate” escapes me. Surely you have the imagination to come up with a list of topics you would personally find inappropriate to discuss on this forum. I’m just suggesting that assuming everyone shares your religious perspective might be one of them. Or is your mindset too narrow to welcome my “alternative belief”?
Simply to satisfy my curiosity, how do you define the “appropriate forum”? My definition is the United States of America. Am I wrong?
I don’t know, maybe a forum oriented to people with a common religious outlook? If this was a forum for people with a general interest in say, knitting, wouldn’t you think it inappropriate for someone to inject their personal political beliefs? I’m not trying to squelch free speech or criticize anyone’s religion, I just found the original comment jarringly off-topic and a bit preachy. Am I not allowed to have an opinion too?
It has everything to do with it, and almost always does. Besides the fate of the world even being mentioned in the title, all the turmoil in the world today was foretold perfectly in the Bible. So everything that’s going on in our world today is relative to the Word of God.
I see where you’re going with your point of view regarding relevance, and on that you are certainly free to express your opinion. However, we can’t uphold freedom of speech by suppressing others’ speech, can we? Back in the dark ages in the America where I grew up, it was commonly understood that everyone was entitled to express his or her opinion, but that entitlement did not extend to limiting others’ expression of theirs. merely to enjoying the freedom to ignore any and all of our choosing. Thanks for your civil response.
Can you answer what DNA is being lost? How do you come to that conclusion?
I’ve already given you sources that answer your queries. And I am relatively sure you’re capable of searching for the topic. You can find plenty of secular sources too. This isn’t a Creationist claim, but an actual scientific fact. They talked about it plenty when they thought there was such a thing as junk DNA, but they now realize that even non-coding DNA serves a purpose, so it doesn’t reach headline status anymore.
I attempted to give another link, but the web host of this website keeps marking me as spam because I use a VPN, and often have to copy and paste much of my comments due to a physical handicap, and I tend to offer links to further expound on my points as a result of that handicap. So that causes their spam algorithm to flag me.
“Biblical Genetics”, on Rumble or BlueTube, is one of many sources you can research. I’ll attempt to tag you in on the comment where I was able to post the various links to Creation Science organization. If you desire to know more about this, then that’s all I can offer you. I’m not here to engage in a debate when I can’t provide link sources. It’s simply ties my hands too much. So it’s up to you if you want to learn about God’s Creation.
Brian, you are a kinder man than most — including me. Your patience in the face of continued hostility is commendable. We are blessed by your contributions.
Thanks David. Scott has been trying really hard to get the web host to keep me off the spam list, but it just isn’t happening. So unfortunately, unless something changes between now and May 9th, this will probably be my last month here. I’ll still comment on the Rumble channel though.
Contact info@billwhittlecom.wpenginepowered.com and express your complaint in strong terms. There are things they can do to inhibit the system reacting to you. This is a recurrent fault of this website and happening to more and more members.
“continued hostility” LOL. that is rich coming from you.
You fancy yourself the White Night, the hero who speaks for those too sensitive to speak for themselves? Isn’t that what the left does with racism?
It is not the duty of those to whom you make claims to substantiate them for you. It is your duty. They are your claims and it is you who must provide the support for them. I see no links to credible, peer reviewed, genuine scientific papers that support your claims that DNA is being lost.
First of all, we’ve covered this. As for the issue with the website, Scott and I have been working on it since I joined here months ago. As of today, Scott thinks it may be fixed.
As for, what you call, “credible” peer reviewed papers, and your notion that it’s incumbent on me to provide you with these links, you’re woefully mistaken. You see, I don’t debate trolls. Especially ones who pay to troll. That’s just all kinds of sad.
And again, I’ve been banned from posting links, and as I said, I’m pretty sure you’re capable of searching for the secular sources. But perhaps I gave you too much credit.
You see, I’m not going to hold your hand, no one did for me. They gave me the arguments, and I needed to be the one who sought out the Truth. And that work was what made it all that much more rewarding. I didn’t post my statement to debate cynical trolls, but to plant the seed for those who are seeking His Truth. All I can do is pray that you’re in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
I have had the pleasure of raising six children, and with all the challenges associated with It I would not change a thing. They were the best years of my life, and now I greatly enjoy their offspring. If the Lord offered a reset, I would refuse.
NOBODY is ready to bring a child into this world unless they have already done it. That being said, given the pure terror that the younger generation has for anything associated with responsibility it makes sense. However, it seems odd that the same group that don’t want children are also the same group that have the 60%+ STD rate among them, someone is having sex. Now if a new STD comes along that makes your junk explode I could understand it, and herpes is forever. But this is a case of being self-centered and unable to grow up. I don’t remember being like this at that age, I remember WANTING to get a job and buy a car and find someone to settle down with. What happened?
What happened? What happened was that you were raised by parents who understood that their job was to raise someone into a fully functioning adult. Many people have now been raised by those who think there job is to create happy children. Now they are older, but still children. There tantrums really suck.
I couldn’t agree more! Boomers, and I am one, projected their resentment of being made to grow up upon their children, preferring to be peers and friends to them instead of bearing the responsibility of being parents, with all the discipline and difficulty that requires. I promise you, if I had not been raised in a conservative, Christian family, and read Ayn Rand (quite the dichotomy, eh) in high school, I would have ruined my kid’s life, too, who in turn would be in the process of ruining my grand children’s lives.
My parents definitely understood the concept of tough love and allowing your kids to fail.
ron swanson…in spades my friend. when i was ten i wouldn’t shut up so my fith grade teacher (it wasn’t lost on me that he was my FIRST male teacher ever) gave me a mighty wack across my right hand.
that night at the dinner table (this was when families still ate together) my mother asked me about the welt on my hand. i told her the truth. she immediately sent me to bed without finishing my dinner.
next morning at breakfast waiting for the bus (clio,mi) my hand was still swollen a bit. mom: “so donnie, will you be talking or listening today in class”. me: “listening mother”. that was it.
no empathy. no bandaid, no suing the school for child abuse. i’m not advocating that teachers hit their students just stating that at the age of 73 i still remember the many lessons learned that day by a ten year old kid with an attitude.
that was in 1958.
at the risk of being a contrarian…feminism happened and it’s still happening at warp speed.
Meaning?
look hotshot…i see your posts and know your game. you won’t be able to bate me. either you agree or you don’t agree and that’s fine. even having no opnion is fine with me but acting stupid won’t get my goat. now go play in the sand with your mommy.
Responsible would be parents can do a lot of preparing beforehand. No one has to go in blind and expect to fly by the seat of their pants. One huge resource is extended family–your parents, grandparents, siblings and cousins with children, aunts and uncles. If you don’t have that then friends, parent groups, church associations. Historically, first time parents rarely had to go it alone and having to figure it all out for themselves. There is also one’s own experiences as an older sibling.
“Bring a child into the world on the gamble that the child will improve the world …”
Of course be sure you teach that child that by to “improve the world” you mean to hate his own species because that’s the source of all the world’s problems and without human beings the world would be a better place.
So in effect “Have a kid so your kid can contribute to the decline and fall of mankind.”
What an amazingly revelatory insight into the Leftist mindset. Those people really are crazy and if we don’t do something about that they will destroy us all.
I’m with Bill on this one. Please do your best to convince virtue signalling Leftist anti-Americans to not have children. We’ll just have to find a way to limp along without those kids. It’ll be a tough job but we can handle it.
Actually it occurs to me that anyone stupid and irresponsible enough to be a virtue signalling Leftist anti-American is probably not responsible enough to apply before-the-fact contraception. So I hope this policy of them not having kids isn’t going to lead to even more abortions.
Maybe we should take up a collection to buy virtue signalling Leftist anti-Americans contraceptives. While we’re at it let’s throw in a one way plane ticket to the Socialist Paradise of their choice.
We did. It is called Obamacare.
And yes, if you detest the world, please don’t breed.
Good point, and if that was all Obamacare did I’d vote for it.
The thing about this ridiculous argument that Leftists should have kids to “improve the world” crashes when you consider what their definition of “improvement” entails.
I recall similar discussions when I was in college, in the 80s. And later when we had our daughter, people were saying the same things. The world is a terrible place, why would you want to bring a child into it. My answer was much like Scott’s response.
Do people REALLY not see all of the tremendous improvements in the last 100 years? Are we oblivious to the fact that there are still countries today where the living conditions of poor Americans are considered upper middle class?
This may be the saddest aspect or our world. That people in their 20s and 30s don’t know how good they have it by having been born here, rather than wherever their grandparents or great-grandparents came from.
A quick look at GDP per capita ought to set some folks straight, but as we have heard logical arguments don’t penetrate emotional positions. (BTW -USA 5th 68K per capita, There are 100 countries at less than 10% of that figure. An 80 of those are $4,000 per capita or less. I know they would just say how unfair that is. Look at the list and discuss freedom.
Young people are the ones who are most “traumatized and fearful” about COVID…I was commenting just recently about how there is no 9-month baby boom….these young people are afraid to have sex…they are the ones who go crazy if they see someone without a mask…gullible, naive, and untalented with critical logical thinking…
David Benatar was brother to Pat Benatar ….and she said “Hit me with your best shot”
Scott, you make me remember that feeling of wonder and completion. It’s been almost 37 years since my son was born. He’s still a pain in the ass, but I wouldn’t change any of it.
Thank you, gentlemen.
Bill summed it up perfectly, but we’re a generation of Trust Funders. We’ve come to believe that peace and prosperity are the natural order, when history has proven how incredibly wrong that notion is. We can either remember this lesson, or learn it the hard way. And from the way things are trending, our country is choosing the latter
Thanks, fellas. You made excellent points all around. The twisted logic of those in the Ivory Tower is an abysmal pronouncement of incalculable narcissism laced with profound irony. These nihilists take it upon themselves to describe a world born of their imaginations, and nursed at the breast of a time in history that brings prosperity, comfort and health here-to-fore unknown. They have no gratitude, no grace and are completely bereft of love for human kind. Like Bill, I will gladly encourage them to practice what they preach.
I usually take the recommendation of such nihilists one step further than most. To those who promote the destruction of others, I simply state, “You first.” In that, and only that, I am a proponent of self-inflicted, post-birth abortion.
Meanwhile, I will enjoy the company of my four children and one grandchild (hopefully more to come) when I can.
That’s the same way I feel about climate change activists who want us to live without cheap and abundant natural gas and coal. I think they should give up everything that they own that is a product made from energy produced by fossil fuels. Your clothing? Made in factories lit and heated by electricity from fossil fuels? Gone! Your vehicles? Including cars and bicycles? All made from energy produced by fossil fuels. Your food? Again, all come from farms using energy produced by fossil fuels. And distributed in large, gas-burning trucks.
To really walk the talk you need to live in a cave and wear clothing made from leaves and mud and hunt your food and eat it raw, no wood fires. Then I might believe someone is serious about “saving the planet”.
There was a very good video with a corresponding poster that listed dozens of common items made from the byproducts of petroleum processing. I tried to find it a couple months back but couldn’t. Not saying it was pulled down, just didn’t search well. It is pretty illuminating as to how much we really rely on “oil”.
It’s ridiculous to think we could exist without fossil fuels. I’m glad I don’t live in California — I think this summer is going to be worse than last for rolling brownouts, etc. And just wait until they shut down their only remaining nuclear plant in San Luis Obispo in 2025. This plant supplies electricity to over 3 million people. Sun and wind can never replace that.
This is a very good video on the truth about renewable energy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq-Z9sYGxeE
And the wind folks never talk about this little factoid.
When wind turbine blades are decommissioned they are usually scrapped and thrown into landfill because they cannot be recycled. In the U.S. over the next four years alone that will be the fate of more than 8,000 blades. … It’s because most blades are constructed from epoxy or other thermoset resins.
CCC’s (Climate Change Crazies) are NPC’s who drank the Kool-Aid of the PTB, who themselves know exactly what they are doing – they care about one thing – complete and utter takeover of their enemy – us – and of course the NPC’s, who are nothing but fodder to them, will be trampled in the melee.
We’ve already seen what happens when the faucet of fossil fuels is shut off for a couple of weeks. Like Covid, disruption of energy is a boon to the PTB.
sue….excellent link to a thoughtful interview. i’m pretty sure jim phelps he gets some form of remuneration from fossil fuel entities but that sure doesn’t mean he is all wrong. the left makes darn sure they get well compensated for their efforts to be sure.
in my opinion at some point the world will be revisiting nuclear energy and in fact there are some reasoned leftists (is that a contradiction?) seemingly willing to enter into that discussion.
send a rocket once a year into the sun. if the entire globe was 80% nuclear powered the yearly waste wouldn’t effect the sun any more than a pimple causes skin cancer. i could be wrong of course.
again, thanks for the link. tally ho.
this topic has come up for me many times in the past week… and the consensus view of those I chanced to hear or meet is that our children and grandchildren are the highest honour of our lives… no matter what else we have done or continue to do…
