I forgo higher education to enter the workforce and start a family. Maybe I should have accumulated thousands of dollars in depth for am engineering degree instead of being the schmuck that gets to feed his family, other families, AND pay for the education of a bunch of moochers. But no, I chose to pay my debts and value my credit, because one day I’ll risk everything on a business that either makes it, or sends my punch card back to the time clock. I’d write more, but my start bell just rang, time to get to work.
I claim bonus BWdc credits for marking the “roasting rats on spits over burning tires” on my dusty Stratosphere Lounge bingo card.
OK, grant the premise, as you always counsel us Bill. OK, so K-12 is “free”? OK. Do people expect higher ed quality to maintain, once it’s “free”, or will it decline to match the levels of our other “free” government services, like K-12, Medicare, the VA, and countless other government programs?
Oh, and by the way, I work in the largest private K-12 school in the nation, and it costs $29k per year to attend. You get what you pay for!
I went to private (Christian) school K-11, and then my family moved when I was about to enter my senior year. I had to go to public school then, and wow, was there a difference! You guess which was better…
I wish Trump (or his Education Secretary) would propose the voucher system, since we are paying for education already in our taxes, why pay twice? It would fly really well among the blacks in the inner cities!
However, like all the other initiatives President Trump is trying to get thru (health care, border wall, etc), this may not have much traction in Congress…

Conservatives buy votes by giving you your own money back so YOU can decide what to do with it, shrinking government in the process. The Democrats buy votes by TAKING other peoples’ money and giving it to you in form of government services, by default growing governement services until you are wholy dependent upon it. Why can’t Conservatives frame their message in this way? Seems pretty freakin easy.
Used to be, when I was growing up (baby boomer) that going on welfare was seen as giving up your self-worth, your pride. Also, the number of people panhandling was much, much lower.
One of my sisters got divorced in the 80’s, got not welfare (she didn’t sink so low) but I believe it was called Aid for Dependent Children (ADC). Her children are now grown, she has also maintained a job for low these many years… but she has become a democrat (not raving, but immovable).

After hearing Bill and Scott discuss Bernie wanting to cancel student loan debt and make college free, I heard Liz Warren say last night that she was too poor to go to college. I added so that was why she decided to become a native American Indian, pretend to qualify for a job at Harvard and make the big bucks without an ounce of shame. Sick Leftists!!

K-12 is not free, my ridiculously high property taxes pay for it here in NH. We are not getting anything close to value for that money either. Unless that is you equate education with indoctrination, because that is certainly what the public schools produce.

I’m actually in health care. When people ask me about government health care, I ask them if they know what the number one health care problem is in humans. It’s your teeth. That’s right, dental problems are at the top with respect to humans. Yet there is no cry for free dental care, is there? It’s because the government never got their foot in the door, insurance only recently is making inroads, and healthcare systems are shut out of the whole thing. Mmmmmm, …..
Interesting… I knew about the separation (or whatever they call it) between dentristy and other medical ‘health care’, and well aware that I need to have supplemental health care if I want to cover my dental costs. Could you expand on the implications of this, because my impression about dentristy is that it’s pretty corrupt in itself, maybe because of its isolation, maybe not…
The race to give away *free stuff* is a horribly bad idea. At some point in time, more and more things will be deemed *essential*. Homes, cars, toothbrushes, shoes, and a growing list of other *necessary* items for life. Slowly, insidiously, government will swallow up all aspects of commerce. Up tp the point where government collapses upon itself in massive debt and taxation. At what point do patriots tire of this communism and rise up to take back their nation. When is *the purge*!?

They won’t even know how to kill the rat, never mind that they could and that it would be meat….coddled is right…but I surmise that it is 1.5 generations, not 1 generation….It started with my son”s generation….My question has always been: If no one teaches you, how can you teach it to your own kids? We started this downhill slide into dependency in the 70s…..I have said, on many sites, as well as this one, that even with Medicaid, there should be some skin in the game…those people on Medicaid need to have a co-pay….before they can be on Medicaid, they need mandatory budgeting classes….Back to the subject at hand, these students will absolutely learn the lesson that someone will always bail them out for bad decisions….after all, someone has been all along….usually Daddy at the insistence of Mommy….
After my last trip to Russia, I knew for sure that, when push comes to shove, Russians and Eastern Europeans will be the survivors….not the people of the US who simply do not know how to survive….We have raised 1.5 generations of pansies….We are no longer tough….except in the MidWest….
