Instead of telling people to “subscribe” to the YouTube channel or the FB page, why not tell them to bookmark the channel in their browsers? There’s no need to rely on FB or YT “feeds” to receive content. Encourage people to take control.

Agreed, 100%. The problem is, there is a significant population (apparently) that cannot use a browser/web combination in any more complicated a fashion than a TV with channels. They literally cannot seem to grasp the concept of a bookmark.
But yes, that’s how it should be done. The whole “channel” thing is just addressing those people, and at the same time increasing page views and advertising — so it’s a calculated business move.
