“We fight back with truth…we make sure we punch them in the mouth with truth.”
— Omar Rivero, Occupy Democrats
Omar and his brother Rafael have 9.9 million Facebook followers for their Occupy Democrats page, and they’re out to prove that Joe Biden can go viral, because they think Democrats were too slow to embrace Hillary Clinton as an exciting change agent in 2016. The New York Times finds them more exciting than, well…Joe Biden.

I follow Occupy Democrats because it helps me anticipate the arguments I need to rebut. And the projection displayed demonstrates the complete delusion of thinking 180º out of phase.
We might want to start with what is the “this” that the standard politicians cannot do. Speak truth to power? Well no, since they ARE the power. Trump came in from the outside, and he was seen as “one of us” so he did not have the power (name recognition and money aside). His hands were not on the levers in Washington and never had been. Rubio, Cruz, a few others had been in those halls, and had pulled those levers.
The governors could somewhat say they were from the outside but the problem usually with Republican politicians (and not with comedians, pundits and other “chattering class” types) is that they are staid, stuck, overly proper. We often say they never really give back, just sit there and take the lies, let the MSM paper over them and turn them into caricatures. Again, this is something Trump did not do. When hit, he hit back. I think the Democrats cannot (are incapable of) doing this because they’ve gotten soft and weak. The MSM covers for them, shields them and does the hitting back. Groups like this also like to pretend the Right is in control of everything either to promote the Lie or just because at an Id level (or something) they cannot see themselves as “The Man” so the other side has to be in control so they can “fight back”.
To Scott’s point, I think one of the other primary issues is the web sites for the former newspapers aren’t in the news or information business any more. They’ve slid into info-tainment and entertainment instead. I don’t think their income is driven by people coming for real information but fighting over who is first and who has the most visitors just to drive ad revenue. People are also too busy in their own lives with long work hours, overly scheduled kids and “Life” to keep up with the government that feels farther away but which they don’t see is even closer and more intertwined in their lives than before. The idea of the Pure Candidate and the parties purging any that were buffer middle hasn’t really helped.A No Mans Land has been built to further the US vs THEM fight. Some of that might be also a cynical belief that the government IS and it doesn’t matter who pulls the levers, as long as the fundraising cash and post elected jobs are still plentiful. The Revolving Door concept doesn’t seem affected by what letter was in the ( ) after your name, but the “Former” and which title followed that.
In 2016 the odious OD was fully behind B. Squanders until HC bought him another house. I know this because I had…had…some left leaning friends who constantly posted mindless memes put out by OD. I challenged them continuously and consequently I was unfriended by a few ‘friends’. Oh well.
The other thing I’d say about social media not changing minds — I agree. Not directly. I actually target a lot of my posts … a lot of my more conservative posts do not go out to my more liberal friends. It would distance them from me, which I don’t want because 1) they are friends, and 2) I have ZERO chance of reaching them if they don’t remain my friends. But what it does do … like Scott says near the end — is to help equip my more CONSERVATIVE friends — the ones who already agree with me, with solid arguments (I don’t pass false memes on no matter how much I agree with their sentiments) to persuade THEIR friends.
Years ago, I was actually able to sway my best friend who thought he’d gone full Democrat … to the other direction. And it was based on talking about the actual forces of market economics in the world, not on punching anybody in the mouth or calling anybody fat or stupid.
It’s why I’ve been a subscriber to Bill since he’s been subscribable. And Trifecta/Right Angle has been some of the very best content for this kind of thing that’s out there – so even if that’s all I got out of my subscription, it would be money well spent.
Booster. Yeah. I call him a carnival barker. It’s why I rarely take anything he says literally. He’s a 24 hour ad campaign. He’s a terrible speaker, and yet he’s found a way to be effective. I don’t think he’s a dumb guy … dumb guys don’t get where Trump got in the world.
So let me get this straight. Occupy Democrats was formed because they felt Occupy Wall Street didn’t have any leaders. Wasn’t Occupy Wall Street supposedly against graft and insider-ism and … you know, everything Joe and his son Hunter represent?
You are correct about not taking anything that Trump says “literally”….he speaks conceptually….and the press cannot, or will not, (but I suspect “cannot”) deal with concepts…what people need to do is to look at his actions since they cannot listen properly to what he says….I always knew that the press was biased, and that bias has grown more extreme since, probably, the election of Bush 43, but my eyes were really opened on just how ignorant about everything, including life, that the WH press is…I have listened to every briefing and roundtable discussion….the press there are the ones taking notes back to their paymasters. It is clear that they cannot understand what is being talked about. They have no existing knowledge of any of the subjects discussed. People really need to start to ask the question about everything that the press puts out: “What’s the agenda?”….or, better yet: “Who is paying how much to whom and for what?”…
Re Occupy Wall Street: We all wear uniforms…that was adequately proved during the 60s and the hippies, who did not want to wear “corporate uniforms” and yet all amazingly looked and though alike.
Are you old enough to remember how the media excoriated Reagan during the Reagan years? They HATED him. So none of this is new, it’s just been turned up to Eleven.
