In another random act of kindness that alarms and shames Democrats, Scott Presler leads a couple hundred volunteers to clean up a massive, rat-infested, plague-ridden, garbage pile in Los Angeles…for free. This is the same Scott Presler who cleaned up a trash-strewn alley in Baltimore after President Trump called Rep. Elijah Cummings’ Maryland district “a rat and rodent infested mess.” Will his one-man crusade to make American cities livable again spark a rebirth of civic pride, or will Capt. Cleanup be jailed for doing government’s job for free?

Scott Pressler was also publicly derided for shaming the low income population. I don’t remember where I read it, but someone stated that the poor people in those neighborhoods were capable of keeping their streets clean. Then why didn’t they? I think it’s the old excuse that “I didn’t make that mess so why should I clean it up?
And he’s sexy, too! I’m talking about this young man, Scott Presler… he has a lot of cultural appeal going for him, for the young folks who aren’t all PC’d into submission and despair.
The young conservatives are out there, word of them needs to spread – thru the newest, best forms of communication – twitter, instagram, whatever…
You guys are doing your best to help that along.
A liberal in Portland, after waiting 30 years for local political promises to fix a pothole, started a meme. Pothole gardening not only got a fixed pothole, but brought to light the heavy handed fines the city would levy if a citizen attempts to fix their own street.
The problem with government doing more and punishing individuals from doing things is that individuals get conditioned to expect that. And as time goes on volunteerism and individualism declines while expectation for government to do more increases. This loop continues until we go to far to come back from this.
Bill’s closing comments about “teams” tripped Scott’s comments about Hurricane Katrina’s victims that died waiting for the government and reminded me of one of Bill’s earlier Ejectx3 Essays “Tribes”.
There also there were cross political lines identified and left/right mattering less and Grey/Pink attitude mattering more.
Yes, Scott’s mention of the N’Orleans people during the hurricane aftermath was very passionate, almost brought a tear to my eye…
Hey Scott. I too spent some time growing up in Bucks county. We lived in Warminster and my Dad was the Executive Officer at Willow Grove Naval Air Station. Small world.
My little brother flew A-10s from Willow Grove, and his son served as an A-10 crew chief there.
Bill, you once mentioned the sewage issue in a third-world country and said all it would take is a couple of Americans getting sick of it, going to Home Depot, and solving the problem in a day.
By the same token, Home Depot should consider building a store on a surplus navy vessel that they could lease for hurricane rebuilding. Park that baby outside the Bahamas right now and with enough organized labor, you could rebuild the entire island pretty darn quick.
Scott is an American hero and we need more like him. He saw a problem and jumped into action. It reminds me of a story a few years ago when people wanted the city of Toronto to build a staircase in a local park and had estimated it to be about $65,000. A local man thought that was insane, and rightfully so, and bought some materials and hired some homeless folk and accomplished the task for about $550. The city officials got pissed off and wanted to tear the staircase down.
Bobby, I thought they did tear it down.
I was going to post that very same story. It points to the stupidity of government.
I got a co-worker that thinks just that way. Anything that doesn’t have the stamp of approval from the government is suspect. Or the Union’s stamp of approval.
Bill, I’m surprised you didn’t drop that line of yours I love to quote:
“Democrats would rather rule over ruins than let someone else take credit for prosperity”
“Shaving my left nostril” – paraphrasing Coach Buttermaker there, Steve? =8^)
The government didn’t do it for years and demanded billions of funds to not do it with.
A private citizen said “nuts to that, let’s get it done”. He did it in hours using volunteers who did it without asking anything but the doing of it.
Our governments are nothing but a huge Mother-may-I permission mill who’s only skill is not doing what should and can be done at an astronomical cost. It is going to take much more than reform to take care of the problem of government.
Scott Presler did it without trying to reform the gov’t, just showing them up by doing their work for them!
I didn’t say he was trying to reform government. I said he did the job at a minute fraction of the time and cost that government didn’t do it. That demonstrates my statement: “Our governments are nothing but a huge Mother-may-I permission mill who’s only skill is not doing what should and can be done at an astronomical cost.”
Correct… what happened to the good old days – that Scott is bringing back – of thinking forgiveness is easier to ask for than permission (ie. regulations). Not that Baltimore forgave him, we’ll see how L.A. reacts!
The Dems are just mad because they lost an area that they could tax us over and over again – just like they do with gas tax hikes for highway maintenance.
I don’t know about the L.A. cleanup event, but I read that when he arrived with his folks in Baltimore, that the residents were inspired to come out and help with the clean up. This also upsets the Dems because it was a gesture of free-thinking and free-acting people. And we can’t have that. Next thing you know, they’ll be voting Republican.
And maybe they will, thanks to Scott.
OK – I’ll give you temporarily 😉
They created this problem by repealing the laws that made it illegal to defecate and shoot up in public both in L.A. and San Francisco, then they turn around tax us more for the cleanup. Hopefully, our state isn’t so far gone that they don’t see the exposure, but I’m not holding my breath as I don’t look good in blue.
