This is very bad. Most of the charges went away under Comey, et al.
We had a similar scandal several years ago in Australia when computers from Prime Minister and Cabernet showed up at a second hand store complete with all the data. That’s only supposed to be the most secure computers in the country! That’s like Westwing White House systems on sale at a junk shop. And of course it was a left wing reporter that somehow was there to spot it and buy it and publish the contents. A Conservative government’s contents of course. No heads rolled among the left wing staff. The paper trail lead to an empty store room in the Parliament basement.

Since I do cybersecurity for a living, I was very closely following the Imran Awan story, and was shocked they let him off the hook. The Capitol Police had basically shunned him from the network due to a series of cyber incidents, and he attempted to blackmail a staffer that stumbled onto his crimes. Those are facts not in dispute. But that all got swept pretty quickly under the rug, and he and his wife were allowed to leave the country. And we’re all painted as conspiracy nuts when we want to know how the guy behind the single largest data theft in Senate history got away with it.
