COVID-19 Cancel Culture: UConn 2020 Football Season Over Now, Others to Follow

The University of Connecticut Huskies cancel the 2020 football season due to the risk of COVID-19 spread. Are the UConn Huskies just the lead dog falling in an avalanche of others to follow? Will people take the pandemic more seriously now that it hits college football? Is it just another symptom of ‘Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds’?

Will people take the pandemic more seriously now that it hits college football? Is it just another symptom of ‘Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds’? And should a team that went 2-10 last year have waited until another team cancelled its season in order to avoid providing fodder for jokes and memes?

So we are just now entertaining the vulnerability of undergrad football players to injury and illness in the face of profits to the university?
Thank you, COVID. Maybe there is a silver lining to this fantastical cloud.

As a physician and having had CoVid-19 and having my father’s death hastened by the virus, I have up-close experience with the problem. I don’t think that we should have done more than shutting down the “hot spots” so as to not overwhelm the hospitals (and then re-open once this is achieved), quarantining the elderly and the morbidly obese/diabetic/immunocompromised, and discovering if there are any other factors which might lead to lethality. The economy should not be shut down.
There are people dying in every age group, unfortunately, but athlete’s risk is indeed very low. We are losing people with no obvious comorbidities, though. A previously healthy younger colleague of mine is currently on death’s door.
But the world isn’t safe and killing the economy to lower the death rate will kill more people than it will save. This Winter, the flu, not CoVid-19, will kill five times as many children. Children bringing home the flu will again knock off great grandparents and grandparents like it always has.
What will be the statistical trigger to shut down the world for seasonal flu?

God Bless you and your family. I am sorry for you loss. Keep fighting the good fight.

Thank you, exactly how I feel. Lock yourself in a closet surrounded in bubble wrap and a meteor will fall on you! Life was a risk the minute you were born. Mom coulda dropped you. Get over it. And just give me the risks and LET ME DECIDE!

We must make life “safe” without any risk, no matter the colateral damage. Safe, safe, safe. Safe from liberty, safe from personal choice, safe no matter the cost. What I want is to be safe from being herded into a pen.

This is just one more of a plethora of examples of why I refer to this state as The People’s Republic of CoNannyCut.

And. . .

When the heck did UConn get a football team, anyway?

The NHL is playing the Stanley Cup Playofss in empty arenas. All of the stands are covered with tarps. It’s a very sad state of affairs when people are completely ruled by fear.
Since Bill is speaking of food in a supermarket … Kroger just released a recall on onions potentially contaminated with Salmonella. The recall extends back to any onions purchased since May 1. Nobody seems to care about these sort of daily risks.
China has done minimal damage to Western countries when compared to consequences of their self-imposed, fear-based insanity.

An alternative experience is one my wife has been living lately. She is a volunteer registrar for USA Hockey, and she is essentially being forced to comply with the governor’s edicts and public panic in spite of her stated opposition to all of the public displays of virtue signaling and tyranny. It is likely that local youth hockey in New Mexico will be severely restricted or canceled outright. I just cannot fathom the desire to live in fear of a flu-like virus like the growing majority of sheep-with-human-dna in our societies.
