“big business can sort it out, big government can’t”
I thought I’d share this video from Peter Whittle’s New Culture Forum. He interviews the wonderfully acidic Dr David Starkey about the pandemic. Dear old auntie Starkey is a right wing historian and contrarian who is one of the few right of centre people to get onto broadcast TV in this country. He concentrates on the CCP virus situation in the UK but he does also touch on the similarities and contrasts with the US and makes some excellent points about the inherant problems with the NHS model. The sound quality is a little iffy in places, but bear with it, there are some very interesting points.
If the UK situation interests you generally it’s worth looking up other NCF videos, Peter Whittle has some great guests and lets them talk and develop points and ideas. Enjoy.

The resemblance to what he said was Britain’s reaction to covid and our own is eerily striking!
The NHS is like a religion, we must do what the health scientists say, even to the point of not exercising our rights to freedom of religion!
What has bothered me from the beginning was seeing first in Italy the determination that visits by the priests and last rites was not necessary (health trumps religion), then in our country restricting pastors from visiting the sick and ‘shut-in’.
Hopefully, Boris and Trump are no longer hoodwinked and can start to turn around their own countries. I worry about Pres. Trump’s touting of vaccinations, because I feel that is someone’s agenda (to power), not the answer to this health issue.
I pray that the whole medical industry gets an overhaul after this!
“We’ve committed economic suicide” and “it’s an extraordinary version of the emperor’s new clothes,” and I haven’t even reached the 4-minute mark!
“A service economy cannot survive in a post-Covid world.”
I will definitely watch this! I am a big fan of Starkey’s. I really enjoyed his history of the monarchy series. It’s available this side of the pond via Acorn (a subscription service available on Roku, also through Amazon or via their own website).
I have to ask: is Peter Whittle any relation to Bill? (Surely he must be? They both being related to the aeronautics design scientist?)
Have you seen the documentary with Starkey “Britain’s Tudor Treasure, night at Hampton Court”? Let me know if/when you have, I’m in it and I have a story or two.;-)
No, I haven’t seen that! I am sure I would love it! My “guilty pleasure tv” watching is British history documentaries. . . . Anyway, I’ll look for it, but so far the only documentary series I’ve seen with him is the Monarchy one.
Here it is, enjoy. Having re-watched it I’m reminded of a few things, I might write it up as an example of how TV works with history.
Britain’s Tudor Treasure: A Night at Hampton Court
Fantastic!! Lucy Worsley too!
BTW the other uploads on that (your?) channel include two other series I’ve watched, The Bloody Crown and The Plantagenets, by Dan Jones. He definitely got me to appreciate and understand that period of English history more than I ever had before. Those series paired very nicely with Starkey’s interpretation in his Monarchy series.
I haven’t seen the others, looking forward to watching them.
