President Trump comes under fire for saying, “In my opinion, you vote for a Democrat, you’re being very disloyal to Jewish people, and you’re being very disloyal to Israel.” Did Trump’s effort to attack Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar conjure an anti-Semitic trope and poison his efforts to win Jews to the Republican Party? How have Republicans failed to attract a group of voters who should love the party’s view of Israel?

There’s no way to know. Speaking as a person with some Jewish people in my family, I can say it amazes me that so many Jews still vote liberal and support the party that seems to hate Israel. Obama clearly favored Hamas over Israel during his administration. Bill Clinton played both sides against each other, until Arafat backstabbed his “legacy.” Only Trump put our embassy where he said he would in Israel. The Jewish community is very conservative, yet it votes largely liberal. Despite their horrible sufferings under National Socialism (Nazis) and from Christians in medieval Europe, many of them seem to have no problem with socialism or communism as a concept, as it was Communist Jews from Russia who brought Communist theory to the Frankfort School in Germany and later to America via Columbia University. At the time, the horrors of Communism and Socialism were not well understood in America. Since then we have seen what happened in the Spanish Civil War, what happened in Russia, China, North Korea, Cambodia and Vietnam. In the 1930s these things were not well understood, and you had people like Charles Lindbergh supporting the Nazis at first, at least until they proved to be our enemies. Even Lucille Ball originally registered to vote as a communist in that period. So I am not surprised when a group of Americans votes for the enemy, I am merely disgusted by it. Usually they simply don’t know what they don’t know, or more correctly, what they don’t want to know. But I think Trump’s intent was to show the dichotomy of being Left as a Jew when it is the Right that is the side that supports the Jewish nation of Israel. Dennis Prager is probably far more qualified than I to talk on why Jews often vote Left, the side that hates America and supports Hamas. But has pointing out that dichotomy “poisoned” Trump’s position with the Jewish community in America? Not necessarily. It all depends on the individual Jew.
I don’t even think Trump was saying that the Jewish people who vote Democrat were being disloyal to Israel but to their own people, their ancestors, and themselves.
It wasn’t a criticism of *just* Democrat policy regarding Israel. The Democrats (and those like them) are going after the Jews’ religious morality in the public square, their kosher laws, and male circumcision.
THat’s what I thought. Not saying disloyal to Israel. But rather disloyal to Judaism and Jews.
Shorter Leftism today – “Just because I support the people who want to wipe Israel off the map and murder all of its citizens doesn’t make me an Anti-Semite!”
The reason that Republicans don’t speak the truth is that they are NOT Republican. They and many of the general public are members of the unofficial Spelunking Party who’s platform is “We cave, we only cave, and we will forever cave.”. They hold their principles so loosely that they will not stand against any misbegotten evil statement, however mild, from their opposition and will cave rather than fight.
It is as if they only want the Democrats to Love them and to stop saying bad things about them. To make this happen, they work overtime to be better Democrats than the Democrats themselves.
The Spelunkers therefor enact Democratic policies. Policies the Democrats don’t think they can enact until much later. It resulted in the over 100 year long collapse into an almost total socialistic welfare state. With 22 trillion debt and over 200 trillion of unfunded liabilities. The federal government is both morally and financially bankrupt along with far too many states.
Truly, with friends like them we don’t need enemies.
Heh – “Spelunkers”
Great term!
