DUMP BIG TECH

Recommend everybody leave Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Google now.  I’ve moved to Parler and Rumble… for that matter, now dumping Fox News and watching One America News Network instead.  Stop supporting those who suppress the truth and freedom of speech!

I keep my FB account active because there are some things that are only accessible there. For example, unfortunately my church livestreams via FB. Also it is a way for old friends to find me. But I have not logged into FB regularly in years, and I don’t see the point yet of creating an account somewhere else. (I joined one of those early attempts to create a conservative FB, don’t even remember the name, but it was really boring.)

For me, a significant point of getting off of FB was to break the addiction of logging in all the time to look at what amounted to really useless stuff (pictures of other people’s meals and pets) and spending way too much time and energy worrying about what I said to this or that person and whether it got any likes. Those dopamine hits are real and they are what allows Big Tech to manipulate you.

Even here I find myself engaging in some of those behaviors sometimes. Don’t like it.

Was never on twitter, only ever look at it to occasionally read Trump tweets. Stopped using my gmail account many years ago too, only maintain it to use when I have to provide an email address to an online site I don’t want to receive mail from. Have never logged into it (or anything else at all) from my phone (which has so much junk deactivated that I constantly get errors–I only use it for phone and text and very occasionally to look up a map using the browser). For searches, I use DuckDuckGo except for maps, or occasionally books if archive.org doesn’t have what I need. I don’t log in when I use YouTube, and keep an actual list of bookmarks to look at video channels I like, having never used their system of likes or notifications, deactivated autoplay, and so forth.

So I’m almost as disconnected from Big Tech as is possible. The irony is that in my mis-spent youth I was a huge computer nerd, and now I’m a luddite. And BW really is pretty much my only social media. Not that anyone reading this would really care about all this any more than they would care about looking at a photo of my lunch. 🙂

Agree, many ways to spend time away from the bs and drama. Like getting together, getting organized and working on solutions to nullify and counteract the problems we are faced with such as the media, big tech, Hollyweird, super wealthy that act super dumb.
Once we can organize and find solutions, then we start the healing but I’m afraid we are nearing the point of no return if folks dont start taking this seriously.

Here’s a start: quit using newsfeeds to obtain your content. There’s this nifty thing in every web browser called bookmarks. Use them to go from site to site, as you choose, not as someone else chooses. Never click on anything that takes you to a different site unless you know where you’re going and deliberately want to review something there (e.g., the Tatum Report, or a search engine). Disable autoplay everywhere you can. Resist all of the spoon-feeding that is so much a part of social media sites.
