Creating new victims is the strategy of critical theory — make large numbers of ‘the oppressed’ and turn them against the center to bring on the Marxist Utopia. The latest iteration of this method comes on social media where fat people not only press for equal treatment, but insist that being fat is not unhealthy, and efforts to lose weight are the true danger. “I was born this way,” is the mantra, in common with gay and trans groups. They militantly disparage the skinny patriarchy, and those who might decline to date a 400-pounder. But can the victim factory succeed in building a persecuted minority out of an obese majority?Â

Tip of the iceberg there with the corn syrup thing. It *is* the trivially available abundance of cheap calories, which evolutionarily speaking USED to be hard to get and we are tuned biologically to seek them out (they taste great and make us feel good).
We’ve done two things. We’ve gotten so wealthy and technologically advanced that it is trivial for us to produce lots of fat, salt, and sugar — again, all things we are biologically tuned to seek because they have been historically rare over the history of mankind. And 2) … we sit on our asses most of the time, and that has been an historically rare lifestyle over the history of man.
I am (“literally”, as this generation is fond of inserting) afraid to watch this for all the cringy moments it probably entails. I am already embarrassed for them.
The boys are right and wrong at the same time. The tiktok girls are right and wrong too. Obesity is a pair of contagious diseases: a bacteria messes the metabolism, this reduces the hormone that activates digestion and makes you feel full, so you crave sugar and fat and get malnourished while eating a lot. There is a hormone replacement treatment but its expensive. https://www.saxenda.com/#
The Archaea bacteria,’bacteroides’, needs the fat and sugar but is inefficient so it kills the hormone off. https://www.nature.com/articles/nindia.2012.135
Then there is the virus spreading though the population that mutates the fat cells. The modified fat cells proliferate, absorb fat and that fat can’t be burned. Fat burning is how you reduce the fat. There are three kinds of fat: white fat, brown fat, and organ fat. Storage, insulation and padding; white. Burning the fat; brown. Padding and structure; organ fat, sometimes yellow. Hormones including insulin switch white to brown but the virus has them off. It may be used DNA from the organ fat.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adenovirus_serotype_36
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infectobesity
Diet and exercise does not work if you have this virus caused obesity. In fact as some of the tiktok girls note forced diet can lead to muscle burning disorders. Army fat camps in Australia were shut down after hospitalizing a dozen officers. They have permanent heart damage. The body could not burn the fat so it burned the heart muscle.
Like green house, covid and several other things the mainstream science and medical community are not willing to consider the infectobesity data. There are cures for these being researched but the work is under funded.
There is another problem. One of those girls is not fat she has a lymph fluid problem. The one in pink. That’s very serious because she clearly has not been properly diagnosed and it hurts like hell. Its also not fully cure able. It is treatable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipedema
That is not obesity.
The bad diet and lack of exercise or excess carbs are effect not cause. 18th century food was way more carbs with occasional meat. Obesity was rare. We had people in the German death camps that died from starvation but were fat. We have fat people in part of India where there is famine [& a Marxist regional government]. That lead to the ‘bacteroides’ discovery.
I’ve mentioned this before on the site. The world has obesity wrong. Get it right and the problem goes away.
Bill is right about the Frankfurt School and trans fat people.
I was willing and almost eager to follow what seemed like an intellectual argument on this issue until I got to the source citing “Wikipedia” and then you just lost me. I could be wrong for sure, but I trust Wikipedia about as much as I would trust Joe Biden to babysit my granddaughter.
Wikipedia is problematic in some fields but if you don’t know how to use it that’s a problem. Look at the links section at the bottom of every Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a fast way to link to a link cluster. Would you have read it if I posted all the links I have book marked? There 30 of them. Learn to use it. Trust but verify. If you have a problem with Wikipedia get an account log in and fix the pages. I do. Sometimes I’m out numbered and over ruled but that’s true for Britannica, any peer review site and all news organizations.
Just a question for Scott, “How are we supposed to lift each other up if we are all packing lots of extra pounds?”
Your trans-comments remind me of one of my favorite Bobby the Brain “Heenanisms” on WWF Saturday morning broadcasts back in the day:
Gorilla Monsoon: “There in the front row are Bret Hart’s parents, Stu and Helen.”
Heenan: “Hitman’s dad is named Helen?”
Oh, I can’t wait for the first lawsuit by somone who dies of complications from being overweight to sue some figurehead in the “Fatism” movement!
Bring the unsalted, unbuttered popcorn!
That’s already happened and it was a decade ago. They settled out of court.
The bottom line in the victimhood game is to get the general population to accept delusion being flaunted, as normalcy!
A man, who chooses to believe that he is a woman is living a delusion, which is of course a serious mental illness. But in reality, I don’t really care if that is what he believes he is, at least until he expects me to become delusional as well and believe in his impossible transformation too. Same with any form of delusion, as long as it doesn’t seriously impact me, go for it if you must, just don’t expect that your being proud of being obese is going to get me to agree that it is a healthy lifestyle choice!!!
Just an FYI for Bill, but he left his Twitch stream running ever since his last stream 18 hours ago. Might want to shut that off.
I was in Germany in September. Everyone walked everywhere. I saw about 5 overweight people over ten days of holiday, and I think they were mostly tourists. When I flew back to the US and into the Seattle airport, I suddenly became aware of the astounding percentage of obese people in the airport. So many. I hadn’t really noticed the lack of obesity in Germany until I returned to the USA. We are an obese nation.
Want to lower health care costs? Start walking, stop eating processed foods, and reduce portion sizes.
If gubment din want us ‘large’ they wouldn’t have replace real cane sugar with corn syrup, or sprayed us with defoliant that caused thyroid problems and caused the spread of type 2 diabetes. /s.
I weighed 150 most of my adult life. Hit late 40s when ‘midlife spread’ hits us anyway, jumped up to 265 within a few years. Work had me moving around a lot, including internationally, so couldn’t plant my self and see one doctor. When I finally could I found I had low thyroid and type 2.
It’s taken a LOT of hard work, but I’m down to 225 or a bit under and holding for about 6 years. now. At 78 I’ve pretty much said “F it.” I’ve somewhat adjusted my diet, but I’m not going to go full brainwash and go vegan or “it tastes just like meat.”
Keep up the good work, troops. We get more information/opinion/views in a few minutes from you three than from the whole Facebook/twit/aol/yahoo/social and traditional media combined in years.
The left has never been shy about sacrificing lives in exchange for power. Victim status always comes with a definable cost that the influencers don’t have to pay- read the fine print.
I wonder what will become of the next generation when I see kids riding electric bikes and scooters. Almost no one pedals anymore.
There is a HUGE totality of medical literature confirming that the threat to your health from obesity is very real and very deadly. Those on the left wing seem determined to believe in all kinds of malevolent nonsense including trans, global warming, and now the ‘freedom to be fat’. If they only poisoned their own lives, it might be tragic. Instead, they inflict their lies on the rest of us and do their damnedest to wreck our lives too.
I have the body of a god.
When that god finds out what I did to his body; he will be totally pissed!
This episode made me think about this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8UVBgUd9GE
LOL
Also, I remember Jackie Gleason complaining to Alice that, at their wedding, his mother-in-law was going around telling people, “I’m not losing a daughter. I’m gaining a ton.” LOL
Addictions are hard to overcome. You have to decide that you’re worth whatever bad habit you’re trying to break and muster all of your resolve to end it. As an ex-smoker, I know about this.
These women are mentally lazy and fooling themselves by thinking they can’t control their weight. No one is born fat, it’s mind over matter. Or, in their case, mind over platter.
I was going to say a few things but read the comments first and both Harry Ferguson and Keith Jackson said the things I was going to talk about. So be sure to read their comments.
I’ll add that my taste in women runs more towards the realistic than the idealistic. I’ve always hated the fashion model imperative that women need to look like starving little boys and if not that somehow reduces their worth as women. Women should look like women and women have curves.
The whole weight thing in human beings generates a lot of controversy. I don’t pay much attention to it because I’ve simply lived long enough that I don’t care anymore.
I think Bill is right about the victimhood thing having gotten out of control and no doubt there are some, probably few, people who use victimhood as an out when it comes to weight. Just like men are still men no matter what they do, and women are still women in the same reasoning, fat people are still fat people.
Not all fat people can do a lot about being overweight, almost all of us are overweight to some degree and that’s probably largely due to the processing of foods we eat, high fructose corn syrup, etc.
For my part I’d rather be around fat people of good character than skinny people of poor character. The same way as any day of the week I would prefer the companionship of a Conservative who’s a black person, latino or Asian to a white neurotic quasi-insane social Marxist — If I had to choose. Oh, I am biased and I admit that. My biases run much deeper than what pigmentation your skin exhibits or how much of you there is.
I don’t care if you’re fat or not, that’s your personal problem. I care about what kind of person you are.
If the kind of person you are demands that I embrace your particular indiscretions, idiosyncrasies, foibles and peccadillos as heroic then I don’t like you.
I’m with Scott on this one. Finally a victim-hood status where I can belong! (I would say fit into, but that would be wrong.) Next we will be able to sort us fatties out by just how fat we are. I am way fatter than you so I have more victim points than you.
In the end this is all part of the left’s plan, you have no control over any portion of your life. Like unprotected sex too much, don’t we will take care of your little problem. Your being picked on by other kids, (because kids never would pick on someone different), don’t worry Supper Wokeman to the rescue. Your fat. Ha, not your problem, we will crush any who say mean thing or tease you! And the list goes on and on.
here is the crux of the plan. Same cart different horse. Kill God! He ask you to try to be better, with his help, for your own good, for a better marriage, family, society. Well we can’t have that now, not if you are not in control of any portion of your life. And the left is nothing without control.
On a side note, what other country in the world, past or present, is where the biggest health risk to the poor is obesity!!
Some folks enjoy being Eloi. They don’t realize there are Morlocks watching them, waiting…
Mmmmm … Nice, plump, juicy Eloi.
The next victim groups will be the addicted, to drugs and alcohol.
About weight: as you said there is plenty of “science”, reputable and accepted, of the dangers of obesity. It appears many in the “trust the science” crowd are willing to put aside that information and embrace hedonism in all its forms and turn one’s tolerance on its head. Just as has been said that the Constitution is not a suicide pact, tolerance has its limits in holding firm to certain values, however reached. None of us wishes behavior which openly shames or embarrasses a person, nor do we wish government to enforce a particular body type, but as individuals we try to live by our values and be guided by solid information. If a person wishes to do nothing about one’s obesity, so be it. Just don’t try to force me to accept it as normal and reject my values for yours.
As an aside, the military is changing its standards as though the demands of combat can be altered, rather than the opposite. Like you and Steven, I read a great deal of history. My readings of history, especially in my recent ones on combat on the Eastern Front, reveal the enormous physical and mental demands on combatants, and combined with an unsympathetic Nature, man must adjust or die. Lower standards ensure the latter outcome.
Way back in 1982, the folk writing the comic 2000 AD, the comic Judge Dredd first appeared in, predicted this. The League of Fatties were a militant group demanding Fat Rights, in Mega-City One. Back then the idea was darkly humorous fantasy. Today, well, it’s still darkly humorous, but also a reality.
There you go.
There are, a very few people who cannot help being fat. They have any or a combination of the following: very low metabolism. True inability to exercise (my wife has it. Bad back and needs knee replacement. Aiming to fix. Before this happened, she was very active) And, super rare: the inability to determine if full. These people have to watch what they eat very carefully.
Also, dieting can cause health issues: if you yo-yo diet. Lose 10 pounds, then gain ten pounds. Lose 15 pounds, gain 13, etc. Also very fast dieting is hard on the system.
Now in my case, I am a white male Christian boomer. Thus an opressor. And it figures I’m doing my best to get out of this victim group. (Sigh)
Over the last three years I’ve lost 40 pounds. About 1 pound a month until recently. Now its about 1 pound every 3 weeks. If you weigh less, its easier to exercise. About 15-20 more pounds and I’m at my desired weight.
How did I do it? I have been snacking less. My few snacks h ave been less processed sugar and fat, and more fruit, complex carbs and proteins.
Now exercise? 4 rescue dogs. Two high energy that sometimes I have to chase. Two that insist I walk them, but all four want to, and I can’t do them more than one at a time. I live in a Victorian house with lots of steps between the first floor (living room, kitchen, dining room) and the second floor (bedroom, works from home office). Deep freeze and canned goods in basement. Lots of leaves to rake/vacuum. (90% from neighbors trees)
I’m tired just thinking about it.
As to badly educated being the next group: it’s already started. Equity. Certain groups being allowed (and sometimes encouraged) to meet lower standards.
I think you are on target Bill with the next group. And I won’t qualify for it either. Chemical Engineer degree, high IQ, wonder what I did wrong and want to correct if I got a 99 out of 100 on any test.
Well, I’ve said for years: I am not normal. Normal is boring.
Great job on the weight loss Harry! I am one of those yo-yo guys. I joke that I have lost about 200 pounds. 30-40 pounds at a time, then back up, rinse repeat.
I have about 25 more to go this time but really changed my diet this time and cut out almost all bread and pasta. I find that if I try to cut it out completely I lose my mind and rebound hard. I like bread!! We are now making our own bread and pasta so it doesn’t have the extra processed crap.
There are several things I have learned about dieting; mainly from my doctor.
Too fast is not good.
Total deprivation on anything you like can lead to totally dropping the diet. An occasional binge is ok. Note: occasional. (Note: it seems you learned this about bread and pasta. Good for you! Keep up your diet!)
Blowing the diet does not mean giving up. Try again, and note the above for one possible reason.
If you love a food or style of food that is not harmful; go for it! I like spicy foods. Cheese is one of my favorite snacking foods. Diary! Protein! Salt! ( oops. Well, my blood pressure is under control.) Pretzels! Complex carbs. Low fat! Salt! (Not again! Sigh.) I choose lower salt pretzels though.
I took a nutrition class from Cornel during lockdown. The professor said if a person diets, the body will lower body temperature (check), lower energy (check), and then eventually become depressed (check again). I found if I lose no more than a pound every month or two, my body is tricked into thinking I’m not dieting, and I have no negative symptoms.
I switched to whole foods with no processed crap except when eating with family and friends. Whole food tastes so much better, and I naturally lose weight.
Bill worrying about four pounds makes fat people roll their collective eyes. They can lose twice that just going to the bathroom.
As someone who has similar eating issues as Scott (I love bread) along with the liquor consumption of Steve (at least) plus an upbringing that had wine with every meal other than breakfast, I can say that I wish I had the worry about 4 pounds that Bill has. 4 becomes 10 becomes 20 pretty easy as we age and get less active.
That said, it is the less active that is the real problem. I weighed about the same until I had a job that had me on the road a lot. Unhealthy meals and limited exercise are a bad combination.
But that was my issue. It didn’t make me a victim, just not focused on the right priorities.
Body image problems, in females in particular, has been insane for most of man’s existence. Think about corsets. Look at what geishas did do their bodies. I was exposed to this craziness early, having to attend “Codependents Anonymous” meetings because I was “facilitating” a relatives bulemia by buying Oreos. I was told that 40% of females had pathologic eating disorders. They said that the bathrooms outside the cafeteria at UCLA and USC had to be closed because of plumbing problems caused by vomit.
Being an admittedly clueless male, I found that hard to believe. As I’ve aged, I think the problem may be in a majority of the fairer sex.
Your video makes me think. It may be that the success of the Left, sharpened in focus by Obama, in making victimhood a desired goal, combined with body image craziness, is what led to this fat militancy. But, just like other lies our ‘Emperor with No Clothes’ Democratic Party pushes, I think there will be a reckoning.
My sister was grossly overweight and when she passed out one day she was put in a hospital ward in a southern CA hospital that basically “ended” people. She was put on a ventilator, administered drugs and kept unconscious. Some time ago she had signed a do not resussitate order (DNR) and my brother in law was tired of taking care of her. Being fat takes away your rights and the DNR overcomes your will to live. Was she asked it she wanted to be euthanized? No. The DNR gave them the power to do away with her.
I still grieve over her. The kindest and most loving older sister of all. Being obese and signing a DNR is not a way to live but it is a surefire way to lose your life and the freedom to choose to live it.
