Why am I only learning of this now? Back in 1991 the great man was the host of a half-hour documentary series on the history of aviation. There were 3 series of 13 episodes each. In the screen shot above Neil talks with Bill Dana, also a legendary X-15 pilot.
And in another episode he sits down to talk with Burt Rutan. I haven’t watched any of the episodes. Evidently, at the time of writing this you can see it on Amazon Prime if you have that service. Meanwhile, you can at least catch the trailers for the 3 season here:
I love the way he introduces them. “Hi. I’m Neil Armstrong” and pauses, as if to say “Top that. You can’t, can you” Although we know he would never, ever be that immodest. I will be searching for ways to watch the entire series as I don’t have Amazon Prime, and if anyone knows how I can do that please let me know in the comments. Here is a wikipedia page with all the details on the show.
One reply on “First Flights with Neil Armstrong”
In the wiki you linked it mentions a VHS release, which fits with the timeframe. Probably nigh on impossible to find those.
Amazon does list purchase options at $0.99 per episode or $10 a series. As long as Amazon doesn’t reneg on the purchase, you should be able to watch them as many times as you want, on any computer or device that can log into Amazon video. You wouldn’t need a Prime Subscription to do so.
One of the other channels listed on the Wiki might have some ability to watch historical shows too. PBS would be my first try if I was going to look at that.
