Paul Ingrassia, at American Greatness today, comments on an essay by Victor Davis Hanson in his post Do Americans Today Still Deserve Liberty. HeĀ has some excellent observations to make concerning the ongoing coup attempt we are still experiencing.
… a deep state comprised of government bureaucrats launched a full-out assault on a president they despised, for reasons that have to do with power above all. In so doing, they unleashed years of the pent-up frustration of those who are part of the infrastructure of government today, ranging from top-level agency heads to mainstream media allies, and all of this culminated in the first verifiably attempted coup in American history.
It is worth reading his essay in full. It is also worth reading the referenced essay, Autopsy of a Dead Coup, but it should be noted that this attempt is still ongoing, even if the estimable VDH would like to believe it is over:
…not thugs in sunglasses and epaulettes, not oligarchs in private jets, not shaggy would-be Marxists, but sanctimonious arrogant bureaucrats in suits and ties used their government agencies to seek to overturn the 2016 election, abort a presidency, and subvert the U.S. Constitution. And they did all that and more on the premise that they were our moral superiors and had uniquely divine rights to destroy a presidency that they loathed.
Shame on all these failed conspirators and their abettors…
The battle has only been joined since Donald Trump attained the Oval Office, and truth be told these embedded conspirators will battle on long after he leaves in 2024.
This is one we cannot lose.
