Science fiction space story creators seem obsessed with the need to save or abandon Earth because it’s dying, or darned near dead. Bill Whittle reviews the planet’s history of enduring nastier events than mere human off-gassing, and find 1,000 scientists who agree that there is no climate emergency. Bill Whittle — America commentator, historian and space enthusiast — leads a powerful force for the promotion and defense of conservative ideas.

Be nice Bill. Science and math are hard. LOL!
We were headed to an ice age until 8000 years ago when agriculture took off. If you want to see extinctions, live through an ice age. I’d much rather live in a world a couple degrees warmer.
I recall when I was younger that the big scare was global cooling; which would actually have been a much bigger problem for humanity. Less growing season less food less people.
Good times.
It’s still a problem even so. Four times as many people die each year from cold as die from heat. I just watched a Tucker Carlson monologue that paints a very scary picture of the near future and it bothers me a lot that I can’t find any holes in his reasoning and conclusions.
Check it out if you have time, it’s worth the 17 minutes of your life it takes to watch it. If you do, I’d be interested to hear what you think. Here’s a link to make it easy …

George Bush, when he was President, had just finished the must-read “The Great Influenza”. He contacted the CDC and asked how prepared we were for the next imminent plague. The CDC was busy replicating other studies done by other branches of our enormous Federal bureaucracy at the time, most likely the effect of no Whole Foods in the Inner cities, and remembered why they were created. The CDC, created to fight the next pandemic, was not prepared as much as you might suspect despite having multiple decades of our tax money funneled to the concept of 1) finding the next scary virus 2) having a streamlined way to quickly create a vaccine or 3) effectively quarantine the source.
They were asked to do this, along with a disaster plan. Covid-19, despite being only 2% fatal, mostly to the elderly and infirm – the Spanish Flu of 2018 was 20% fatal and killed the healthiest first – triggered the cascade of over-reaction.
Bravo, Bill! Spot on!
Absolutely brilliant ending, and elegantly unspoken.

Don’t get me started on the “computer models” for predicting temperatures and always being wrong, and significantly so.
I programmed computers for a living for over 20 years. I could write a program taking current data and show the Earth becoming a frozen ball of liguid helium and every other gas being liquid or solid. Then have the Earth run through the center of the sun and coming out ok.
Of course, the program is garbage. All I’d have to do is make assumptions that aren’t true, misinterpreted, and say ‘if X happens, then Y occurs.” Reality need not apply. A computer only does what you tell it to. It knows nothing you don’t tell it. It assumes nothing. The programmer is in control. So, A computer can spit out any lie the programmer tells it to.
A computer model is only as good as the data and the programmers intention.
In others words; don’t believe blindly. GIGO. Garbage in, garbage out.
Yes, and on the topic of AGW, there exists plenty of garbage data.
And many of the models essentially take the sun and the Earth’s core (the two main “sources” of heat) to be constants since they are far too difficult to model. We study them. We try to predict. But none of those models are remotely accurate so most AGW models ignore their effects.
Shorter version of what I posted on YT: the Chicxulub impact was about 5 billion times the atom bomb on Hiroshima.
I think Bill’s overall point still stands, but the contrast is not as stark.
We’re more likely to have an extinction level type event via a volcano erupting, which isn’t anything we can do anything about (unless someone goes and drills a well and plants a small nuke, like Alistair MacLean’s Goodby California novel) or another asteroid. As Bill pointed out, there were larger animals and larger plants in our past, at “life ending” atmospheric levels.
I’d love to post a comment about this but error messages keep popping up. “Nonce”?? “e-mail address is invalid”???

Yet you managed to post this? Curious …
Sometimes for some reason the site doesn’t want to load up or work right. Two things you should try when that happens. Dump your browser cache and log out/log in again.
I don’t know what’s causing that. It looks to me like the site doesn’t auto-refresh and show the user as logged out. Or the site software ‘thinks’ you’re logged out when you’re actually logged in. That could be due to a timeout issue, I don’t know because I don’t have access to the logs. If I did I’d search the logs for your username anytime today before 12:16 PM and try to figure out what happened.
You’re not alone in this problem. It seems to happen sporadically to a lot of people. Those are the things I do when it happens to me and it seems to clear up the problem.
I have found that I have to temporarily close my VPN in order to comment… it responds “email invalid”…
Do you temporarily close your VPN to comment, then connect the VPN again and can’t comment? Or do you close the VPN and reconnect immediately and then the site lets you comment?
It’s two different symptoms is why I ask.
If the former then there’s probably an IP block on your VPN’s server. Many sites do this in order to prevent digital rights access from unauthorized countries. Some digital content is restricted geographically so if the target site sees a VPN IP address it just blocks it because it can’t tell what the real originating country is. This is correct for them to do because they can have their site taken down and can even be prosecuted if geographical digital rights are violated.
An example of this would be Netflix. It’s nearly impossible to stream content from Netflix through a VPN because they block all known VPNs to keep from violating their terms of use with their providers.
To get around this, you can try choosing a different VPN server from your VPN software. Try one that’s located in the U.S. for instance. There’s no real advantage to selecting a VPN server from a foreign country just to try to mask your real IP. The VPN does that no matter where the server you connect to is located. All you get by selecting a foreign server is a loss of speed because the signal has to travel much further over infrastructure that may not be as modern or well configured as American infrastructure is.
That still might not work because a US based VPN server is still a VPN server and could be blocked anyway. There’s nothing to stop someone in Russia from accessing an American VPN server either. So there’s no guarantee that will work.
If the latter then it’s something else. Something beyond your control and something beyond the control of the Bill Whittle enterprise. A lot of this works by “UDP”, a ‘fire and forget’ type of protocol that if the connection is broken or an inbound transmission is refused at the VPN server will not recognize you as a member.
And other things but this is getting long enough.
FWIW I never connect here via VPN. I don’t see any need to do that. I only use my VPN for specific things and general web surfing is not one of them. I don’t do anything that will draw attention to myself that I have to worry about in those situations. But I know the difference too. Also if the government wants me they know where to find me so I don’t bother.
A VPN isn’t really anything but a false sense of security here. If powers that be want to know who you are they’ll just quietly subpoena your membership records, which contain your real name and credit/debit card info. That goes for anywhere you do any sort of financial transaction BTW.
I.E. if Scott Ott wants to know your real name and address, he has access to those records and can just look up who you are and what your address is, VPN or not. If someone from the government hands Scott a legal subpoena he is forced to comply and provide that information. So it’s not really all that helpful to use a VPN here.
You can go overboard with this stuff. Generally if it breaks the site you want to access you probably don’t want to use it or you need to give up accessing that site if you think it’s that important. It’s not possible for this site to allow for everyone’s VPN behavior. Different VPNs do things differently and it’s too much to ask that a VPN always works flawlessly everywhere.
Thanks… I will keep it active when I travel etc. and disable for home use… though it does bring in some interesting advertisements from different countries… and allows me access to videos I might not be able to view (locale related restrictions)…
If you experience that issue again, Judie, use the contact link in the top menu to send me a note. I apologize for our trigger-happy anti-spam software.
The Satan worshipers believe that mankind (not including THEMSELVES, of course) IS the poison killing their “Mother Earth” goddess.
That’s how they dodge the guilt they try to lay on everyone else. It’s not them that’s killing Mother Gaia, it’s the non believers of their cult that are the evil ones. Even though they do exactly the same things we do, we don’t practice their rituals correctly to appease their god.
If you point this out to them they look at you like you have two heads. They don’t know they’re participating in a religious system, they’re trying to save the planet from becoming a burned cinder hurtling through space with nothing but ashes and corpses on it. To them, in their frame of reference, they are the heroes of their story. The rest of us are the villains.
This isn’t surprising, Lucifer’s preferred guise is as an angel of light bringing beauty and truth. He’s really good in that pretext because that’s what he was once himself.
When I was growing up I had two parallel simultaneous educations happening. I had the secular public school education and I had a religious education provided by my parents and grandparents (my whole family really, not just them), church, Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, etc.
This is no longer in vogue and people are not taught how to recognize and discern real truth from very clever lies. Which makes it very difficult to disabuse them of their error because way down deep where their spirit dwells they WANT to believe in something. It’s a pretty easy exercise for Lucifer to fill that void when they don’t know any better.
Bill, someone should write a SyFi story of how the people that are trying to save the earth, was actually what killed the earth.
They did. It’s called “Snowpiercer”.
Under a properly understood science regime, it does not take 1200 scientists and professionals to question a given position, consensus, or theory – it only takes one, who is credible in questioning the validity of the theory vs. the observed empirical data. And that person does not have to be Richard Feynman or Albert Einstein to deserve a hearing.
Perhaps we can ignore a conspiracy nut like Alex Jones, or even Al Gore and others with a somewhat clear political agenda, if they are the people raising an issue, but for climate change we have people like Steve Koonin, Roy Spencer, Judith Curry, Anthony Watt, and others, who are fully credentialed and credible in questioning the assertions from the IPCC or other venues about global warming and that the use of fossil fuels is the direct cause thereof.
It is then incumbent upon the AGW alarmists and other theory promoters to explain why the skeptic is wrong, mistaken, misunderstands the situation, or does not fully understand the data supporting the theoretical position or assertion. If they cannot do that – explain the data discrepancy – they need to go back to the drawing board or their set of respective brain cells for some new ideas.
Presumably a great many of the folks supporting warming hysteria learned about the scientific method in 5th grade, as I did, and also participated in various science fair projects in middle and high school, trying to employ and demonstrate those ideas. So it is tough to understand why there is such a dearth of questioners and skeptics when the data has failed to match theory and modelled projections of doom.
I agree with everything you said right up to the last sentence. I don’t find it tough to understand at all.
In fact, you yourself pointed out some of the very qualified skeptics and questioners.
You like science. I like science. Science was my best subject in school. It’s still one of my chief interests. I’m betting for you it was/is right up there at the top somewhere too. Science is not like that for everyone though.
I work with the science of logic every single day and I really ought to retire but there are still people depending on me. Logic in computer science covers the overlap between the field of logic and that of computer application. In the world of digital logic 0001 plus 0010 will always equal 0011 (which is 4-bit binary for 1+2=3). If that were not so, if it were for any reason not sound solid immutable incontrovertible logic but rather even contained the remote possibility to be illogical, then digital applications and machines would not be possible. Digital information is proof that irrefutable logic indeed exists. It’s not a matter of ‘your logic’ or ‘my logic’ it is only a matter of THE logic.
With a lowercase ‘L’, logic is never a proper noun. Anything that transitions from a noun to personification or anthropomorphization as a proper noun should be suspect immediately.
Not everyone is good at, or even remotely enjoys science topics and there are more people who don’t understand science at all than do. The insidious thing that has been done is to convince people that Science is immutable and irrefutable so that Scientific Experts are today’s High Priests whose decrees they, as lesser beings, must accept. This is resourced by a natural aspect of human nature and fairly easy, in one degree or another, to subvert for gain by unscrupulous people.
Which makes it a social issue. Turning science into Science is a social thing not a scientific thing.
Science as a proper noun in this capacity can be a self-fulfilling prophecy or a self healing theology. Either the prediction comes to pass as foretold or new ‘science’ is discovered that furthers the teleological pseudo-foundation of the deception being foisted as Science.
It’s a neat gimmick and it works pretty well too. Right up until it all comes crashing down then rinse and repeat with another subject but the same tactic. Roman Catholicism claimed to have sole access to God in the past, the cult of modern Science claims the same thing, but in different terms. To wit; “We are your only means of salvation. You must come to us and do everything we say or you will perish.”
Same game, different players and uniforms.
The existence of the deception is no argument against the validity of science or religion and it’s a mistake to think that if you can find a fault, the whole baby must be chucked out with the bath water. Not all of either science or religion or pretty much any other topic is either deceptive lies or pardon the pun, gospel truth.
Grain must be winnowed from chaff else you end up with inedible bread or no bread at all. Same end result. Too many people when it comes to science, religion or any number of other topics are willing to call the whole thing chaff and thus suffer the equivalent of starving to death in a grocery store parking lot. It’s amazing how many people will do that sort of thing on one subject or some other.
The most effective lies always contain a preponderance of truth. It’s winkeling out the critical untruth that is the real sport and challenge.
This social Science sort of deception doesn’t only apply to dummies who know no science at all either. If you think you’re so smart and so well educated that you can’t be fooled because you’re so smart and so well educated you’re already in the trap and don’t know it. There are plenty of really smart people who have been either tunnel-visioned or completely blinded by science-y sounding well constructed speculation or complete fabrication presented as fact — by credentialed Science Experts.
If not ‘fact’ then of a high enough probability to at least serve as a bookmark for facts until they inevitably are ‘proven’.
This is even more dangerous than the stuff that works on the dummies. By contrast most of this sort is exquisitely detailed and designed to appeal to an individual’s hubris, his love of his own intellect, his pride at his grasp of concept and argument, to keep him from asking the basic questions that expose the flaw.
Rabbit holes are not just for rabbits, ask Alice about the disconnect from reality to be found in them. (Lewis Carroll is one of my favorite authors. He was a minister that was a master at portraying truths as allegory and metaphor. If you don’t read him in that light you can still have a blast but you’re missing half the fun.)
It turns out that being dispassionately intelligent with rigorous scholarship doesn’t mean you can’t be dispassionately and learnedly wrong. You’re just vulnerable to a different set of traps than the enthusiastically naive fall into. Those traps are far more secure in design and construction and proportionately more difficult to escape than the ones that work on simpletons.
The end result is the same for either the genuinely intelligent or not so smart. There are tactical sophistries that work as well on smart people as those that work on dumb people and everything between the two.
The good news is those traps are fairly easy to avoid once you know the path and what to look for. This is one of the reasons Scott Ott is vital to this team, he sees those traps as clearly as anyone I’ve ever been aware of. He’s always dodging snapping steel and gets called names for doing it too. I’m am whimsically amused by the thought that Scott may not even be aware he’s doing this and he’s just a ‘natural’ trap dodger.
So no, I don’t have any problem understanding “why there is such a dearth of of questioners and skeptics …” at all. In fact, what would be both puzzling and surprising is if there were not. What does surprise me a little bit is that you would have trouble understanding these things. It all looks eminently obvious to me.
Let’s not forget that those promoting the climate change disaster scenarios are wannabe tyrants who have managed to corrupt the minds of multiple generations through effective use of fear. Any claims that “The climate is changinging, We’re all gonna die!” should be met with simple replies of “Yes, the climate is always changing” and “Yes, death is inevitable for all living creatures — including you” with a chaser of “Do you want to live your remaining days cowering in your dank basement fearing death, or do you want to improve the human condition — including your own — by promoting wealth creation and individual liberty?”
EXCELLENT point!
