I wanted to “pile on” the great blog post of Michael Piz about having to Wash the Trash, Peon!
I saw John Stossel do a 4 min piece on Green Tyranny, where he first interviewed a young person who was so proud of her modified lifestyle where she could put a weeks worth of her trash inside a small mason jar. She learned about how to live that way at her university.
He then interviewed an environmentalist who was brutally honest about IF the recycling business made sense. That interview was eye opening to me. I did more research on this environmentalist named Holly Fretwell and learned she is part of a group called Perc and from their About page:
“PERC is a research institute dedicated to promoting
conservation by exploring how voluntary trade can produce positive
environmental outcomes. We are committed to exploring the ideas of free market
environmentalism, and this research is the foundation of PERC”
Ms. Fretwell really hits on the Greenwashing of Recycling, and in particular that in her home state , her recycling has to be trucked down to Denver Co. for processing. From her perspective it was not a net gain.
Anyway it’s a great look at the tyrannical greenies, and a differing view from someone who’s trying environmental conservation in a free market way. Refreshing.
One last thing, in January of 1990, I had to travel to the hills of Eastern New Jersey on business. While having breakfast with the company owner and his wife, he lamented the new governmental edict that he was being forced to separate his recyclables from his regular trash, and that his trash could be randomly inspected by the driver, and if there were recyclables in his regular trash, a fine would be issued….and oh yes, he also had to rinse all the spaghetti sauce out of the glass jars and every bit of tuna from the tins.
1990…we’ve been putting up with this ‘malarkey’ for 30 years.
One reply on “Green Tyranny – from 2016 – Still a Goodie”
Well done. There is nothing good about mandated recycling.
