The number of attacks on Jews and Christians and their places of worship continues to rise throughout the world. It’s especially disturbing to see these attacks in the egalitarian West. The backgrounds of the attackers are varied, but in Western Europe particularly, the fires in churches, anti-Semitic graffiti, desecration of Jewish cemeteries, gang rape of English girls, murder of two elderly Jewish women and one priest, all has a jihadist flavor. And still Europe imports more.
Christians in Muslim majority countries are lambs among wolves. Not every Muslim is a wolf. In fact most aren’t. But there are enough wolves to make the lambs miserable and always on guard and afraid for their future. Christians are raped, tortured, murdered, sold into slavery, forbidden to build new churches or repair old ones. Yet Europe, which spread Christianity to these countries a long time ago, does not prioritize Christians when accepting migrants. Europe is working hard to erase it’s Christian past, thus they embrace the harmful and spurn the precious.
In the U.S. Louis Farrakhan, Linda Sarsour, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar inspire attacks on Jews. This gang of four should be declared a threat to public safety; their power to impress the easily deceived is too strong. I’m not in favor of limiting their right to free speech. But the Democrats should take a leadership role in censoring Tlaib and Omar. Sarsour and Farrakhan should be shamed by public opinion for their hate-pedaling.
In my 61 years I have not been aware of this level of hatred towards Jews in the United States and in Europe, and attacks on Christians worldwide. We need to elect leaders that condemn this without reservation or drawing moral equivalencies.
