In the wake of The New York Times story “The Making of a YouTube Radical” — that tarred Bill Whittle, Stephen Crowder, Ben Shapiro, Stefan Molyneux, Jordan Peterson and others — it’s time for “the paper of record” to meet some of the real Members of a private Conservative video enclave. (Progressives prepare to be shocked.) Rather than a monolithic demographic cluster of old, white, heterosexual men, we find a cross-section of America. The common bond is not race, sex, religion, sexuality, age, or even support or President Trump, but a set of ideas that have spawned the most free, vibrant, prosperous, healthy and happy society in the history of Earth.

I was a conservative long before YouTube. Long before the internet, in fact.
I signed up for a membership right about when you started taking them (I had been following you guys since the PJTV days). I knew it was important to support you.
Then, about two years ago, I lost my job. I found another full-time job briefly (for about three months after a gap of seven months), but I was mostly working part time jobs until starting my new full-time position this past April.
One of the first things one does when that sort of upset comes into one’s life is to figure out how to save money by cutting costs. You guys were the only subscription to anything that I kept. I tried very hard to ensure that your subscription fee remained part of my budget because I knew that your operation needed every subscriber and the work you were doing was just that important.
Now that I’m getting my feet on the ground once again, I can start thinking about which other conservative podcasts and sites I can start to add to my list of support, but you were always the top priority for me.
We’re deeply grateful for your faithful support, even when it hurt, Antaine. Thank you.
BTW, Bill, we ARE responding to you. Your thoughts, your words, are your state of consciousness. And your state of consciousness, especially in the company of Stephen and Scott, is a refined articulation of what we believe, and sometimes didn’t know that we believed. You are a thankful touchstone, much needed and much appreciated. I’m grateful to live in this country at the same time as you, Stephen, and Scott. You all improve us just by being in your company. Thank you.
Just acquired a copy of Bill Whittle’s book “Silent America,” a collection of his Eject! Eject! Eject! essays. Would love to have a collection of his Afterburners and Firewalls, especially those no long available, even if they were in Kindle form only.
I really liked this format. Perhaps, Scott, you could make this a regular feature, reading member comments. Say every Friday baring a significant event that you feel needs to be addressed.
Hello. Harry Ferguson here. New member, long viewer. Finally subscribed, took a while only because of financial issues. Ultimate leftist evil – male, straight, white, 64 years old (but young at heart) conservative,Christian. Actually I call myself a conservalibertarinal contortionist pragmatist. If socialism worked with freedom, I’d be all for it. (Conservatve, libertarain, classic liberal respecting the Constitution and wanting what works, not wishful thinking)
Darn it! Not a contortionist, a Constitutionalist!
Personally, I like “contortionist.” But, if you refresh the page, you can edit your previous comment, Harry. You can also use the little ” man gear” icon above the comment section to delete any comments in perpetuity. Let me know if you have any questions about anything, and thank you for your Membership.
I’ll repeat my old line:
I’m a member because I enjoy shouting at my screen in affirmation while paying for it rather than shouting at the ignorance on my screen for free.
I am tired of our country’s history being shown as stuffy overcoats, powdered wigs, and flowery speech. It is messy. It is bloody. It is dirty. I wish there were some enterprising young screenwriter that could show our revolution, not occurring in 1776 but rather how it would look in 2019; Not with ‘Thomas Jefferson’ and the rest, but rather with Tom, Ben, Johny, George and the rest of the gang. Be true to the events but put it into the culture of today’s people. I think that it would bring a LOT of younger people if shown just how messy it really was.
I have just started a membership here today but I have been enriched and encouraged for years by the content that Bill and Scott have created. I hope this latest round of Big Tech censorship will get a whole bunch of people like myself to start supporting creators they love.
I’m sorry it took me so long! Keep up the great work!
Welcome home, Jay.
This site is not the Donald Trump channel because principles are never about just one man. Principles are timeless. We are guided on our path to greatness through a world of darkness by following the illumination of the ideas of great men and women of the past. We must light our own lamps to illuminate and guide those who follow us on into the future that we desire for our children and our country.
I applaud Bill, Steve, and Scott for providing me and my fellow travelers a stop along the way where we can gather, speak of our common experiences, and rest up for the long journey ahead.
My hearty thanks to the innkeepers at Bill Whittle.
I was a member and fan at the other place and finally moved some finances around (I dropped my PBS Masterpiece streaming subscription) to allow me to support Bill, Scott, and that other guy here.
Google, Facebook, and Twitter are busy polluting the near-perfect revenue stream they created. “Put your content here, we’ll inveigle advertisers to come and we can all dip our beaks in the cash flow.”
It’s going to backfire on them but the change makes it hard for us. We all have only so much money. Besides BW I support Dave Cullen and We the Internet TV. I feel badly about not supporting NRO and other sources but there’s only so much each of us can do.
The closer for me was hearing that Scott is working selling furniture to keep body and soul together while working for our greater good. If he can do that, I can kick in a lousy ten bucks a month.
Yes, I pray that there comes a time when there is enough revenue (from paid subscribers or from YouTube) to allow Scott to quit his day job and work full time on speaking his mind (or skillfully getting Bill to do so).
I appreciate the prayer, Grace.
Thank you, Thomas.
I love We the Internet!
Nicely stated. I’m retired and also have to be judicious about where my money goes. (I ditched Netflix, among others.)
BTW, I’m another one that didn’t like Scott’s non-support of Trump, but Scott is a good Christian man who works hard and I agree with him on most points. If I demanded 100% agreement from everyone around me, I’d have never stayed married for 30+ years!
After being a bottom feeder for so long, I realize it is time to pay for what I enjoy watching before it goes away.
Blessings from Texas to all the voices of sanity out there… It is becoming more clear every day that the battle is not right against left but rather Christian against the prince of this world. The father of lies is waging war to maintain, even increase his foothold in this country… (That is why the left is so violent; Trump stalled Satan’s agenda). Conservatives need to stand shoulder to shoulder and push back against this evil for the sake of our children and country.
An environment where discussion is conducted with common sense and decency, where good entertainment and information can be found in abundance, where even though I may not fully agree with everything said there is never a time when I feel threatened, condemned, or uncomfortable: these are things that make me glad to be a member here. A place like this stands in stark contrast to most other social media platforms and I am proud to help support it.
I remember what Scott was going through during the last Presidential election. I felt so bad for him. By the same token, his position infuriated me; I just wanted to shake some sense into him. Not once did I demand he change his mind, however. I presented my case, and let it fall where it may. I admired his total commitment to freedom of thought.
Bill and I have also had our dust-ups, but they were silly, in the long run. In the end, I realized his wrong position on any topic does not negate the principled man that he is. With Bill, what you see IS what you get, and I appreciate that.
BWDC has become my haven away from an inherently leftist career. After a long day of being surrounded by only one side of any given story, I come home and let the soothing waters of freedom and sound principles cascade over my exhausted mind.
What I value at this site is the freedom to speak my mind. Someone here posted a photo that greatly disturbed me. I let the author know how I felt about it, then dropped it. I did not demand that it be taken down. This is the spirit that BWDC encourages.
Not too long ago I expressed my view on a topic that runs counter to the conservative message. To explain why I felt the way I did, I included a personal story. I never once felt apprehensive about sharing it, for I know the caliber of members here.
This site is different than most other conservative enclaves because it appeals to the heart, as well as the mind. For me, that is the main draw of BWDC.
Sorry this comment is so long. I’m on summer vacation, so you’re gonna have to deal with that until late August! Ha!
If I could up-vote twice on this, I would!
First time I get a chance, I am buying you a drink! We’ve never met, yet I consider you a friend. And I don’t expect us to agree 100% of the time.
Thank you, Ralph. You are very sweet. The feelings of friendship are indeed reciprocated.
Like Bill has said in one of his videos awhile ago, we don’t always have a good choice and a bad choice, much of the time we only have a bad choice and a worse choice. Despite Trump’s imperfections, the socialist left scares me to death, and I would rather be shunned by my liberal friends for what I believe and how I vote rather than not follow my principles and pretend to be something I am not just to hold on to people that I know would eventually abandon me.
All Pres. Trump’s ills are moral ills. From his actions in these past 2 years, he has proved that he intends to do right by this country, for this country, in a more-or-less (surprisingly! considering his history) conservative way.
It struck me that what Bill mentioned about heralding the giants of the past, is something I do even when thinking of these contemporary issues. Perhaps this is due to our ideals being so thoroughly established in those earlier times. They capture so much of what we currently hold dear.
As C.S. Lewis said, “Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
Or as G.K. Chesterton said, “The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking; he can ruin himself with gambling. If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.”
In the final analysis I suppose all law is based on a moral principle and as Bill pointed out, we’ve protected ourselves well from government in the regard noted by C.S. Lewis in the previous quote. Not as well from the those assembling the new media monopolies, who impose their own brand of a new pernicious morality upon us. This site and others like it encourage me though, because they bolster my confidence that other freer forms of communication will prevail. Thanks for these messages, and keep up the great work!
Scott, do you see this site as a modern-day Junto? Your comment about mutual encouragement triggered a memory from Ben Franklin’s biography… haha
I would buy Bill Whittle beer. 50/50 on the laundry detergent.
Billy Beer!
Oh, wait….
Do you actually remember Billy Beer? That horrible brew sold for a very short time by Jimmy Carter’s brother? I bought one six-pack of that stuff back when it first appeared on the market and found it to be the FOULEST tasting stuff!!
I do remember the joke where the guy sends in a sample to the lab for analysis and the answer comes back, “Your horse has a kidney problem”. Never gets old.
Just before that; Jewel Foods in Chicago was selling a lot products, including beer, as Generic. I believe they were the source for Billy Beer.
you’re showing your age with that comment.
Proud member of this organization and am honored to be a part of the many freedom loving patriots here. I know I am not alone. One quick observation for folks. Often I hear that “my friends” don’t talk to me because I voted for Trump or pro 2A etc. etc. Well folks, hate to break it to ya, they were never your friends. If you really think about it, your true friends share your interests, care for you and share your ideologies. You can argue sometimes but the next day you are still buddies. You become a better person by surrounding yourself with good folks and that reflects positively to everyone who takes a moment to look. While we all have life issues that can ruin our day sometimes, overall we are a much happier group compared to our miserable, leftist, socialist counterparts. <- just had to stick that one in there. 😉
There’s friends, and then there’s family, which you need to love regardless of their (misguided) beliefs and opinions. You don’t give up on family, and you don’t break up with friends because of arguments, especially arguments on ‘politics’ (which turns into ideological arguments, which turns into emotional fighting). If they’re going to split with you because of those things, let them, maybe eventually they’ll come around.
But they are surrounded by nothing but leftist ‘arguments’, to the point that they’ve maybe become brainwashed, thinking that this is the way to think (and behave). They need to be re-educated to understand there’s more to life than this ideology.
I have a nephew – who is graduating this week from UCLA – who I have no idea internally what he is thinking. He’s had 4 years of leftist indoctrination. On the other hand, he’s had 22 years of family ‘indoctrination’ in what we believe and do and why. I know when I went to college – way back in the stone ages – there was this feeling that the parents aren’t ‘with it’, they don’t know everything.
So, rather than antagonizing him, I am giving him Jordan Peterson’s book, ’12 Rules for Life’, to show him there are rational arguments for why we believe what we believe. He is a STEM student, so there’s every hope he’ll read it and philosophize over it and add it to the myriad of thoughts going thru his young head.
