Prosecutors say California prison inmates scoop more than $140 million in pandemic unemployment checks, with help from friends and family on the outside, because the state doesn’t cross-check applications against a list of inmates, as most state governments do. Gov. Gavin Newsom takes bold action by appointing a task force, as nine prosecutors plead for him to stop one fraud of historic proportions.

Shocking
Just the concept of the Los Angeles Chargers is an abomination. Almost as bad as the Los Angeles Raiders.
Simply cross reference the unemployment beneficiaries’ list with the prison roles…done… but no, let’s create a “task force”… jeesh.
I caught up with several episodes today, and I can’t decide if Bill is tired, or if he is so far beyond furious that he has reached a new plane of existence. He is like a bear in a small cage patiently waiting for the next time someone opens the door.
Corruption? In California?

1) The money I paid to BWDC was a transaction for the goods and services you all provide, period. I had no control nor insight nor issue with what happened to that money after it entered your account and my membership was properly and fully credited. I am receiving fair and full value for what I spent. The fact that Californians have voted to accept this kind of taxation is on them, not me. I will point out that FL has no state income tax. And to speak fairly in regard to Jeb Bush, when he was governor some many years ago, I gather he convinced the FL legislature to repeal taxes on personal property (investment portfolios, etc.). At that time the impact was $100 or $200 per year. Now it would be several thousands if it was still in existence.
2) I let friends stay in our 2nd home in VA for free rather than hassle with paying VA income taxes for that VA based income. In fact, I found the VA authorities wanted a copy of my federal return as part of what I would have been required to submit to them. I don’t understand how that can be legal. Anyone else have any insight into that issue?
3) Glad to hear someone was aiming to find and prosecute the not-yet-in-prison confederates of those inmates. But it is part and parcel of the lack of virtue that Adams et al. said was a mandatory requirement for a people to be free and sovereign in a constitutional republic, as they had provided to us in 1787/89 (and maybe 1865 to 1868?).
Anyone willing to bet that “Poopy Britches” is the name of a real inmate on the prison rolls? No? Me neither.
So … Cross referencing inmate names with people collecting State Unemployment Benefits is only going to catch the stupid ones, huh? The smart(er) ones already know they’re committing a crime and don’t use their real names
Which tells you that authorities who said thats’ what they ‘re going to do in order to stop this don’t really want to stop it. The odds are very good that, as widespread and as huge as this problem has become, someone who could have put a stop to it a long time ago decided not to. Look for someone who stands to benefit by how large that public funding for benefits becomes.
Gavin Newsome is a Silver-spooned Eddie Haskell. Its ALL about him.
Eddie Haskell wasn’t actively evil. Gavin is worse.
If you live in California, look for a petition to remove Newsom. He sure deserves it. Just do a search on whatever search engine your use. I’ve signed at least four. The more the merrier!
WOW! A task force, that’ll show them who’s in charge!
Thanks for the LOL!
I’m just glad we don’t live there anymore.
Criminals are criminals.
If they are in prison then they are convicted criminals.
Washington State gave a boatload of unemployment money (provided by the Federal government for Covid Relief) to some Nigerian Princes. After the security measures in place for preventing fraud was lifted.
The criminals and the Nigerian Princes did something bad. The governments of California and Washington State did far worse.
I would almost leave the criminals and those Nigerian Princes out of the story. Including them in gives readers and listeners something to latch onto that means less than most questions on Jeopardy of in Trivial Pursuit.
Then again, I would leave the hurricane out of the Hurricane Katrina story and focus on Ray Nagin, and leave the Russians out of the story of the Charge of the Light Brigade and focus on those two quarreling regimental commanders.
Is there any recourse to this?? We just seem to be banging our collective heads against the wall. All the time and singing to the choir isn’t getting us any results.
Vote out all the Democrats in California?
This story is a noxious bubble rusing out of a pot full of vile stew.
Maybe some of the money can be recovered. But that would cost more money. Enough to make the effort unproductive?
And distract from what needs to be done to make certain this never happens again?
It sucks sometimes when you make a boneheaded mistake (and here I refer to the voters of California, not the government) and have to sing Kaddish over the money. But it happens, a lot.
Inmates get unemployment, but after Boeing laid me off, I can’t even get the CA EDD to help validate my ‘ID’ (before they even consider sending a few weeks of support). Meanwhile, Gavin Newsom explains his Thanksgiving rules & curfew …
My whole life I have loved California – what she stands for, the openness, the girls, the surfing, the Pacific Coast Highway, everything … up until now. Gavin Newsom is Pelosi’s nephew. My God. If Californians have so lost their instinct for freedom (present company excepted) that a majority of them vote for these people again and again as an enormous rotten borough of some 37 million people, God help us all.
The California that once was is no more. I too lived and loved California for over 50 years. Left it because it was no longer the California I loved and there was nothing I could do about it. It was becoming a hell hole of hell holes. The majority voted for it, they got it, and wish to spread it throughout the county. They should be forced to live with what they voted for and die with it! We not only need a wall between us and Mexico, we need a wall between California and the rest of us.
I have no mercy when it comes to those who voted for it. THAY ARE NOT AMERICANS! They do not deserve to be protected by the constitution they forbid us to be protected by. They cannot be allowed to have it both ways.
Where did you move to ?
A place only half as bad: Illinois. I own rental property there and live in it with my Daughter. It is not great but so far survivable except for lousy winter weather. Not really up to moving again.
I’m glad to hear that you’re surviving! Was wondering why you weren’t around for awhile.
I have this thing that bad weather hurts my bones. Some times it seems that even my hair hurts. Starts one to two days before a storm front and continues until the storm has passed.
I basically become non-functional during those times. Tylenol helps but I can’t take more than 3 grams a day. That is just enough to make it survivable.
I am normally an ordinary grumpy old man but during those periods I am not fit to be around. I tend to go silent. Sorry if it caused you to worry a bit. Thanks for caring.
Should I call you ‘grumps’? I’ve heard of that happening to other people. Guess I’m not quite old enough yet. I wish you well!
You are welcome to call me gramps if you wish. I am 83, and counting.
Good for you!! Keep up the good work! Don’t know what I’d do without your comments.
Thanks. I intend my comments to help someone who is able to think. As long as that is possible, we have a chance.
I don’t have fantasies of saving the world. I simply communicate to one thinking individual at a time.
Hi Lionell, I’d like your thoughts on Bill’s new show Moving Back to America. Thanks, Barbara
I moved to Reno, both to escape California crazy and for the local skiing. Unfortunately we are being Califoricated. Many rich Californians have been selling their overpriced housing and moving here and to Tahoe and telecommuting.
I’ll laugh when they realize that they will still be paying California income taxes.
That’s why we moved out of L.A. 26 years ago
What’s really sad is that you’d have to fight half the population to ride these crooked politicians out on a rail.
That half of the population needs to go too. They are not Americans for the Republic. They are against the Republic as much as any foreign enemy has ever been and worse. They are working from the inside like a tape worm on the body politic. Eating everything from the inside and leaving nothing for their host.
They don’t give a damn if they are killing the civilization that gave birth to them and keeps them alive. They don’t even care where their next meal comes from. They simply live to destroy and to maximize suffering in the process.
Your suffering is their joy.
It would be wonderful if all persons who are not citizens would go back where they came from. Especially if they did not come into the country legally. It will never come to fruition but it would be nice and might actually produce a safer and more economical country. I live in Canada, where our not so Honorable PM brings in people who only want to change the country into the same place they left. Same as what is happening to the US of A. As well the “refugees” he is bringing in, get more freebies than the citizens, but if you complain you will be labeled as *phobic and racist.
As far as I am concerned, they stopped being Citizens when they started to cancel other peoples constitutional rights. THEY ARE THE ENEMY! Treat them as such! They cannot claim protection of the constitution which they are working overtime to destroy.
Soon, it will be open season. Might makes right. If not proper ballots it will be bullets. Ugly is an understatement of what is going to happen.
Bill almost said it. This is not corruption, it is rot. The entire system, nationwide, is rotting from the inside. There is no cure for necrosis. The only solution, which allows for any hope of survival, is either amputation or some form of radiation. Perhaps the legalization of illicit drugs in various States is an attempt to employ chemotherapy. Needless to say, life is going to become extremely uncomfortable for millions of Americans as their host body dies a slow and painful death.
Wow. That was depressingly morbid — even for the likes of me. I suppose I’ll go eat some turkey and try to distract myself.
Corruption = California!
All of you who voted for it. You got it. Now you don’t want it. You all deserve every bit of pain and suffering your elected officials give to you + an increased tax bill + a lockdown as far as the eye can see. Stop the talk…talk…talk and do something! By that I mean live with the coming collapse into HELL THAT YOU CAUSED! Don’t move elsewhere and vote for more of the same. We don’t want you nor need you.
Too many times Californians voted for a sensible ballot measure only to have it overturned by Leftist activist judges. Part of the reason that I gave up and skedaddled.
Good reason to leave! I do know some Californians voted for sensible ballot measures, myself included, but the insane left of left activist judges said “Sanity is not to be allowed in California.”
Unfortunately, we allowed those judges to keep on living and legislating from the bench. We didn’t fight back, sucked it up, and attempted to use talk…talk workarounds. It didn’t work.
Talk…talk…endless talk alone does not work when you are fighting against the terminally insane. In the final analysis you really have to DO SOMETHING. Sometimes violently!
why was the applicant’s identity checked before hand. what about illegal immigrants? I have trouble believing there s no administrative help in such a large scale fraud. Any social workers implicated?
Okay, okay, okay. The fact that billwhittle.com has to pay California taxes, is reason enough for you to get out of Dodge. At least please look into incorporating in another state.
East Texas comes to mind….
