HOA Threatens Eviction When COVID-19 Forces Work from Home

A homeowners association (HOA) in Tennessee threatens eviction of a resident forced to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, because HOA rules forbid home businesses. As the entire economy drives under a yellow flag, it calls for a measure of grace and common humanity lacking in this HOA.

HOAs are a microcosm of local, state and federal government. Even when everyone’s shutters are painted, shrubs are trimmed, when the grass in the common areas is cut, the pool is clean and the snow shoveled, these weasels still feel the need to make more restrictive rules. If it ain’t broke, it must be fixed.

In the movie Cold Turkey a whole town tries to give up smoking, along the way they appoint a monitor to watch over the effort. By the end of the movie he’s riding around town in full uniform with arm band, side arm and riding a white horse.

Guys: You should watch the 1942 film ‘The Remarkable Andrew’ starring Brian Donlevy. It has a bunch of great political jokes; including one about lampposts. This is my favorite;
Gen. Andrew Jackson: You’ve been trying to keep an honest accounting of city money. You’ve been dealing with politicians. You’ve been standing up for your own rights. Haven’t you? Naturally, you landed in jail.

This is a case where HOA need to be regulated I hate seeing it as a conservative but even if they’re stopped from evicting this man, the HOA will just wait till it’s over and evict him. It’s terrible what They do.

HOAs come damned close to out and out tyranny during the best of times, let alone a time of crisis. I think a case for un-constitutionalality of these petty dictatorships could be made, except that they are voluntarily entered into. I would never, Never, EVER own a place in one of these places.

Despicable He! I agree with Steve. There are many, many legal hoops to jump through before eviction from a home. That being said, if this ends up in a court I suppose the word “commercial” will come into play and the actual meaning of it. The President owns 10% of the condos. He is collecting rent. That makes him in violation of the HOAs, doing business in his residence. This is so self serving, it makes me sick. I agree the property address should not be shown. I expect the author of the plea for sanity will want to sell his place and he wants a fair price for his condo. I know I would be moving as soon as I could. This will not go away. EVERYONE is FURIOUS about this. Might be a landmark case, should it accelerate to the courts. That HOA resident will be the scourge of decency and a leper forever.

I’ve said it for years: anyone who willingly signs a contract with a HOA is foolish. There is no such thing as private property in that world of tyrants and dick-taters.
That being said, there is only one appropriate response to such legalized bully tactics: Go to H3LL! Then the HOA president must be tarred, feathered and staked to a fire ant hill in the public square.

Wow that HOA president reminds me of a fool who eats Tide Pod or sticks a fork in electrical socket on a dare. If their name gets public, with the current level of insanity in this country I really hope they have a personal security plan in place. Buying up empty condo’s will be the least of their problems.
