One thing Zo likes to say is “the parties didn’t switch sides, don’t let them use that lie.” I however think that the parties DID switch sides, and here are my examples. Some may not be entirely factual, but they’re all based on past perceptions and current realities.
- Democrats used to be the party for the common worker, now it’s the republicans
- Republicans used to be the party for evil big business, now it’s the democrats (big tech and big pharma among other things)
- Democrats used to be against pushing one’s dogma and beliefs on others, now it’s republicans (covid and gender nonsense, but others as well)
- Democrats used to be anti-authority rage against the machine, now it’s the republicans
- Democrats used to be the ones for free speech and anti-censorship, now it’s the republicans.
- Republicans used to deny people they didn’t like a platform to speak, now it’s democrats
- Republicans used to be the ones that would look consider you less of a person if you didn’t reach their unobtainable morality standards, now it’s the democrats.
I know with the party switch rhetoric all of these were never “real switches,” the “post switch” are how they always were and the “pre switch” is all cleaver marketing, but too many people still hold the perception of “pre-switch granddad’s democrats and republicans” and if they want to say “the parties switched from the 1800s to the 1900s,” we need to then say “and the parties switched from the 1900s to the 2000s” by pointing out how they aren’t voting for the rose tinted “make love not war, anti-authoritarian rock and roll” democrats they think they are.
One reply on “How The Parties DID Switch Sides”
I’ve listened to Zo long enough to know when he’s talking about the ‘party switch’, but you’re right, today’s folks may not interpret what he’s saying correctly. The hippies grew up and took over. Our current policies prove that they have not recovered from their brain-addled drug use.
