you can still buy cap guns, but they use 8 or 12 round ring caps now. And there’s a few videos on youtube, like this crude comparison of roll and ring caps which reminded me of the tendency of the rolls to have duds, or unexploded caps. Plus the satisfying destruction of the roll itself.

Absolutely! Amazing how much entertainment can be had with such a simple little toy.
Yep, and I can still hear setting off a whole roll at once with a rock on the sidewalk. Setting them off machine gun style by dragging a rock over a strip of them was moderately effective too.
We always got a big bang out of a hammer on the whole role.
