If Sarah Hoyt can do a GoFundMe…

then I think I should do one. I put it up HERE. Here is what I wrote:

In pain all day long and now in financial pain.

I have a compression fracture of a vertebrae which causes me pain all day long. I’ve had this for the better part of 4 years. I can’t be upright for much longer than 4 hours a day and cannot sit in a chair, so I spend most of my day lying on a gym mat at my laptop. I manage pain with over the counter painkillers, and do not want to start resorting to opiates or all-day alcohol. I have no health insurance.

I do intend to see if one of the local medical schools can do anything for me for free, but I have a more pressing problem in that, along with not being able to earn as much as I used to due to this condition,  the last two roommates I had both turned out to be nightmares, and I am now in dire financial need. I owe the landlord money from current and previous shortfalls, and I cannot depend on them to continue to put up with this without taking action in their own best interest. I do work from home, but my main computer recently stopped working, so I am now dependent on this under-powered laptop which cannot manage most of the graphical components I need to do in my work.

I recently started going to a weekly food bank which helps me save money. I never thought I’d have to resort to that. It’s humbling to see the love of the food bank workers and when I’m able I intend to give back, somehow. Doing this GoFundMe is also humbling, but here I am, I guess. Any donations would be fantastic. I’d like to get at least partially physically mended so I can try to get my life back, but with this financial pressure a more immediate challenge it looks like I’m a long way from there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

(BTW the photo of me is from 5 years ago before my back problem started.)

Hey Martin. Will certainly pray for you. Hope your message gets to the right people asap. Sorry to hear about your troubles. I did pass the link along to a friend. Wish I could do more right now for you, but just not in the cards at the moment.
Nice picture by the way!

I fail to see the legitmacy of Sarah Hoyt’s GFM campaign. Her health is no longer an issue, and it was allergies! I’d swap allergies for this broken back in a heartbeat. Plus she’s not alone dealing with it like I am, or so many people are. She’s got $120K plus pledged already. I’ve got $20. I’m far more at risk of losing the apartment I rent than she was of losing her house. I don’t begrudge anyone trying to use that platform, but some campaigns are more worthy than others.

good idea, I may try it, seeing as 2 emails to instapundit have gotten nowhere. Maybe if Steve Green read the members blogs he might consider posting at insty. (which is one of my TSL questions: why isn’t he posting RA videos there?)

I’m not sure why Steve doesn’t post the RA videos at instapundit. I haven’t made a habit of visiting anywhere but here. Too busy correcting the rest of the Internet I guess. LOL.
Hope you get through to Sarah. I’ll be Steve has his hands full writing and keeping up on the news along with having a personal life with his wife and two boys. I know I do…minus his wife and his two boys. That would be weird. Plus they won’t return my messages.
