Based on all I could find, it seems that BW member Lionell Griffith has passed away.
I’ve only been a member since about May but I had a number of interactions here with Lionell. I knew him as tough, firmly on our side and never afraid to say exactly what he thought. We didn’t always agree but I respected him and appreciated our differences. I’ll miss him.

I too, miss Lionel. I disagreed with much he said, and found that much he said could be considered offensive to my beliefs. However, I just went “Well, at least he did not hide it or make it personal. Just his opinion” I never was truly offended, as I’ve faced it before. And much worse. As a Christian, I get concerned about non believers, but realize, even if I am right, God is the judge, not me. Good thing too, as boy, do I have flaws. Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God.” What do you know; I am part of “all”!😉
I just called up Chicagoland Cremation Options and asked them to pass my email onto them to see if I could write up a better Obituary than Lionell seems to have gotten, one that reflects his accomplishments better.
That would be great. I didn’t see any mention of his passing that didn’t link to that obituary so it’s quite possible that that’s the only one.
I seem to recall that Lionell was a man of some accomplishment.
It saddens me to not see any of that mentioned in his obituary.
What I recall him mentioning was of real substance, not the empty sort that Higher Education vomits up these days.
My grandfather on my mother’s side died and it was years before my mother learned that he had died and was buried in a pauper’s grave. I fully understand why all that I know of him is one of those promotional calendars dated 1938 he gave out when he ran a dry cleaning business that failed and that he seems to have tried out a number of businesses and failed.
I cannot say that I much liked Lionell as he presented himself. But it is neither fair not right that I cannot find out anything more about him than that he died and where is he buried.
I agree. There are some mentions of a “Lionell Griffith” in the search results for his name which I suspect are him because of the double-L at the end of his name, an unusual spelling of what is normally “Lionel.” But I wasn’t able to confirm those suspicions.
That’s very sad, if so. He was here, so we know he was a patriot and stood up for his beliefs. I’m sure he will be providing support from the beyond as well.
That made me smile because Lionell would have disagreed with you. He was as non-religious as I am, which is to say totally. 🙂
Heheh. Well, he can’t come back and tell us; but if he was wrong, I’m sure he’ll join in somehow.
Knowing Lionell, he’d find a way to join in even if he was right. lol
Yes, I’ll also miss his curmudgeon opinions! He spurred on many interesting discussions!
