A pilot friend sent me this URL to a YouTube video that seems very instructive about how the various automatic horizontal stabilizer systems interrelate and how that seems to link the cause of both the Ethiopian crash with the Lion Air Java Sea crash earlier.

While it is human nature to demand to know how this could happen in the first place, it is good news overall if they have found what appears to be the cause of these crashes. The next question: what can be done about it now?
