IS IT 1947 ALL OVER AGAIN ?

My good friend Colonel Rob Maness poses the question.

The SABRE rocket passed a critical high temperature test. It can convert air into cryogenic air to feed a rocket at hyper-sonic speeds. That’s runway to orbit and if it could be used in a SpaceX configuration. Stratolaunch was also successfully tested. Space launch will as a result match live time sensitive air freight. A billion dollar industry. Its game on for the next space race. Trumps preparing.

The trouble with Skylon is that it hasn’t been able to get any real funding to make it a reality. Now that this test is passed, perhaps it will convince all those who were skeptical to the point of laughing and keeping their purse strings drawn tight. We can hope.

Colonel Maness is very wise. Yes, it is 1947 again, and we are fighting exactly the same battle. The entire reason this argument came up was that the space components and the air components of the Air Force were battling each other for the funding pot, rather than concentrating on how to effectively wage war. If we are to move ahead with what we need to do, we must separate the cats, not tie their tails together and throw them over a clothesline.

China isn’t going to have this problem. And I don’t want to see them showing up at our Moon facilities someday and claiming them as their own.
