So, now it’s official, the ball of simpering self-obsession and self-deception known as Jussie Smollett is guilty of having deliberately staging a fake attack on himself. It is good to have it confirmed by a court, but it is hardly news. Dave Chappelle stated openly on stage that Smollett was lying back in 2019. Presented with the “facts” of the case as stated by Smollett even an especially naïve and slow child of five would have smelled a rat. Indeed, the truly monumentally, awesomely ludicrous nature of what Smollett asked us to believe gives this nasty case a genuine comic element that it would be churlish not to laugh at it.
It is also funny to see the back pedalling, excuse making and general discomfort of the left. Their squirming is delicious; however, we should not let all this distract us from the truly monstrous thing that Smollett did. In order to gain publicity and valuable “victim status” for himself, this already successful man faked an attack calculated to inspire hate, fear, and guilt in various parts of the population. He knowingly and willingly tried to make things worse in the country that had made him rich, safe, and comfortable. He is despicable.
The sheer industrial levels of naivety required to believe his cock and bull story must also call into question either the sanity or credibility of the legacy media who swallowed it whole. This is no surprise, but it is a case where even the pathologically fair minded cannot ignore the fact that the legions of leftists and self-declared “centrists” who immediately jumped on the Smollett bandwagon are either so utterly demented by bias that that couldn’t see it for the obvious lie it was, or they are acting in bad faith and pushed the narrative for political reasons.
None of us are free from bias, but really, this was at a new level. Imagine if James Woods had claimed that while he was in Riverton Wyoming, he went out to get a sandwich at 2 am in sub-zero temperatures and was attacked by two gay black guys wearing Hilary t-shirts who said, “Are you that honky right-winger from Videodrome?”. They then beat him very lightly, smeared boot polish on his face and hung a bicycle tyre around his neck while shouting “This is Clinton Country!”. Yeah right. Can you really see even the most demented conspiracy theorist taking that at face value?
Actual, physical attacks on people simply because of what they are do happen. Contrary to the legacy media fairy tales however, they do not come exclusively (or even largely) from one demographic, and they are not nearly as common as is claimed, but they are real and should be taken seriously.
Fake “hate” crimes like that staged by Smollett, and many others, mix with the deeply skewed way real attacks are covered by the legacy media and lead to an unreal perception which makes dealing with the real crimes much harder. In order to deal with a situation, it is necessary to have an accurate idea of just what that situation is.
There have been increasing numbers of attacks on both East Asians and Jews, but if the police are obsessed with mythical gangs of white supremacists in Maga hats they are less able to focus on where these attacks are really coming from.
I think even the category of hate crime is unhelpful, even though I’ve been subject to one myself. Back in my mid-twenties (in the mid ‘90s) I spent the night on a hospital gurney after being beaten and kicked unconscious by a group of chaps shouting and screaming about “queers”. I came away from the encounter minus one tooth, with three stitches in my lip and a black eye that kept my right eye closed for three days. After the initial shock and subsequent reaction, I found it curiously liberating, but I still wouldn’t recommend it as an experience.
Surely all crime is “hate crime” to some degree? Or at least “callous disregard crime”. It’s perfectly legitimate to take motivation into account when investigating crime, but I fail to see why it should be a factor in sentencing. Under British law my attackers would have automatically received a heavier sentence than if they had done exactly the same things to me in order to rob me (that is, if they’d been caught, they were not of course). I find that simply wrong and it makes me uncomfortable. The fact that people attacking me because I’m gay would be punished more harshly than people doing the same thing to a woman in her ‘80s to steal her purse is indefensible and can only add to ill feeling against the “protected” groups. Although all this PC protecting of this group and that group may be done with the best of intentions (by some folk at least), in the end it creates groups legally elevated above the rest of the population. This is not only a gross breach of the principle of equality before the law, but it cannot help but stir up resentment that the few genuine racists/homophobes etc. can exploit.
Add to this the increasing amounts of time spent by police across the Anglosphere in trying to chase the ever-changing definition of Politically Correct perfection rather than getting down to the job of catching criminals. I cringe at the site of police cars decked out with rainbows and I shudder to think what a householder thinks about such frippery when told the police cannot follow up adequately on their burglary due to lack of resources.
So, enjoyable though this moment of leftist discomfort is, remember that the ludicrous Smollett’s actions have real world consequences. Hopefully he will receive a custodial sentence that recognises the genuine harm he has done, but I’m not holding my breath.
Here’s the fake hate crime database, for those who’ve not seen it. It’s a very useful resource.

Also, in case you missed it, here’s Mr Chapelle’s hilarious and perceptive take on the Smollett case, from long before it got near a court, enjoy.
