I like to study nuances and the less-than-obvious. It’s just a quirk of mine.
Things like accents for instance. I can usually hear an accent and tell where that person is from in a broad sense. There’s a distinct difference between a broad, soft South Carolina mush-mouth accent and a Texas twang for instance. Though they’re both “Southern accents” they’re not really the same at all.
I’m probably one of the minority of Americans who can hear the differences between Aussie, Brit (London), Brit (Liverpool), South African, and New Zealand accents and identify each of them with good accuracy.
Noticing things about people tells you about those people. It’s a hobby, sort of.
When it comes to photos, that’s a little tricky. Most public figures are photographed in their “official” venue and the photos are staged, lighted and retouched for maximum favor to the subject. They don’t really show the real person that you would see if they were standing right in front of you.
I’ve noticed when it comes to Kamala Harris that she’s always looking off center of the shot in press photos. She’s gazing to the side, up or down in what is clearly meant to convey an idea of some sort of noble purpose.
Except on Fox News, and that’s one of the reasons among many I like Fox News. They come up with some of the most unflattering photos of pretty much everyone you might run across. Those photos, though unflattering, are much more realistic. For my purposes they’re much more useful as photos also.
So I ran across a still photo of Kackling Kammy tonight and I was struck by how dead and lifeless her eyes are. Her face is very mobile and expressive but when she’s not posing intentionally her eyes are dead, like a shark’s eyes. Not evil, not malicious, not cruel, not happy, not comfortable or uncomfortable, nothing at all. Dead eyes. That don’t match her face no matter what the rest of her face is doing.
That’s strange, it’s not something you see often because as they say — “The eyes are windows to the soul”. And ol’ Kammy doesn’t seem to have anything behind her eyes.
It’s a little bit weird.
I’m not going to post any examples because first of all I can’t be bothered. This is just my impression and you may or may not see it no matter what examples I give. But I also don’t want to prejudice anyone into seeing what I see.
Now that I’ve pointed it out, look for yourself and see what you see.
