Tiny point of clarification on this most excellent R/A and one near to my heart. Bill noted that a listener to the Stratosphere Lounge (quite possibly me) worked for a company who was bought out by a larger Chinese company, and that the employees were directed to go out and buy all the masks, hand sanitizers and ship back to China.
Actually, it was a dear friend of mine, a guy I’ve been best friends with since the 1st grade, and it was the company he works for who sent employees on ‘Mask Hunt’. The company I work for is American owned, a sole proprietorship with HQ in Santa Cruz employing 140 people.
Steve, you are right on when you said, China doesn’t make stuff we want, China manufacturers stuff the West designs which we want to buy. (One look at Alibaba or AliExpress will prove that)
You were also right, that if we brought back some manufacturing to the states, it would hurt. I know I’m trying every day to make a difference and move mfg back to the states.
And finally, you are so really, really right about Taiwan and the Taiwanese people. These free people get it.
Steve, you are younger than me but a real geopolitical wiz. Tell me something…. You love the Taiwanese. I love the Taiwanese. So why does the United States not recognize Taiwan as a independent sovereign nation?
I’m not Steve, but I’ll try to help. The Republic of China (Formosa/Taiwan) was de-recognized as part of the west’s attempt to tame the Chinese Communists (Peoples’ Republic of China). Communist China wanted to be China. Sometime around 1970-7, to get the PRC to behave (I guess), the ROC was de-recognized as “China” and kicked out of the UN. The PRC was then recognized as “China.” The PRC took the UN seat as China, both in the general assembly and on the Security Council. I think they have veto power there, too, since “China” was one of the main allies victorious in WWII. The US, France, UK, and Russia (formerly the Soviet Union) also have veto power.
Taiwan was left as an unrecognized state. The PRC considers it a rebellious province (Chang Kai Shek with remnants of the ROC army escaped to that island when the ChiComs took over the mainland in ’49).
Over the years, Taiwan started to be traded with but IIRC still doesn’t have any formal treaties with the US. The flag of the Republic of China still flies over Taiwan.
It’s getting worse? Didn’t we just have the anniversary of the Tiannamen Square massacre? Aren’t there mind-boggling numbers of people in gulags and “re-education” camps? I agree, we bought into an idea that the CCP would liberalize, and it didn’t happen. But is it really getting worse, or is it just as bad as it ever was?

People have the shortest memories and the deep state globalists control the media in order to bury a story, obfuscate the facts and accuse Trump of doing exactly what they do themselves. China has proven that totalitarianism and capitalism are NOT mutually exclusive. The Chinese peasants have long been domesticated into a working-class stock and trained to “love their servitude” like Pavlov’s dog. Steve, there is no “new light” on the WHO. As it is written, “there is no new thing under the sun.” They are run and managed by communists. Even communists know the difference between good and evil as evidenced by their internal fighting lip service. But communists are driven to follow the Dung Rule to the letter: “Do unto others before they do it to you.” (i.e. lie, cheat, steal).
WHO is political? An international organization can’t be anything but political. They helped China to hide the truth about the Covid-19 virus. What else? WHO is behind world domination efforts and China is working to the same end. China and Who are friends discussing hidden details.
They are concerned about the lives of free people? If you think that, I have a bridge going to a gold mine to sell you cheap. Freedom is the enemy of tyranny.
