Locals.com: upcoming new digital platform

In the recent stream Dave Rubin talked about a thing we needed for a long time now: an actually independent digital home that can replace the current swamp in the manipulating hands of the “big tech”.   Certainly it’s a major challenge even on fresh stage without big and wealthy competitors.   Supposedly he is cracking that nut.

I look ahead and hope he’ll get all the possible help from people who are potential users.

[As per Bloomberg:

“At least one idea being considered is related to “tipping,” or the ability for users to pay the people they follow for exclusive content, said the people, who asked not to be named because the discussions are internal. Other possible ways to generate recurring revenue include charging for the use of services like Tweetdeck or advanced user features like “undo send” or profile-customization options.”]

Would you pay to read the top tweets from your favorite accounts?

Disclaimer, I do not have a twitter account and never had one.

I joined immediately and signed on to his feed. With a monthly fee for those you join, it will get expensive, rapidly. I haven’t searched enough for others and to see how much you can do for free, as opposed to being able to comment and contact the creators.

How is it different from patreon? Does it have better forums/ways to communicate with other people who subscribe to the same channel?

I’m not joining any new platforms until they seem both useful and popular. I can’t keep track of them all. I joined one of those FB alternatives years ago and it was such an echo chamber it just fizzled.

Patreon censored off a bunch of creators it didn’t like — even facing legal actions from patrons for that at the moment.

The operation is in the hands of *good* people. Also the motivation was to address this censoring nonsense in the first place, not to get rich fast leeching the donations.

I haven’t tried patreon, so I have no opinion. I have been searching around locals more and like what I am finding. There is much free content to those who are members and there also seems to be subscriber only content as well. Andy Ngo has a very good site called the nongo zone. There are many others. SO far, I am only subscribed to Dave Rubin @$5.00 per month. As you can see, it can get quite expensive to have lots of subscriptions.
