There’s not much for me to say about this. A bunch of enthusiastic and dedicated chaps are flying a silver WW II veteran Spitfire around the world. What’s not to like? Currently she’s in the US. Apologies for not posting this sooner.

Built in 1943 the craft being flown flew 51 combat missions in WW II. In that time she was flown by pilots from Australia, Canada, Norway and the UK. One of the strawmen often trotted out by know-nothing lefties is along the lines of “well, lots of the pilots in the Battle of Britain weren’t even British, so there!”. Those of us who love our country and know its history well have always been aware of the deep debt of gratitude we owe to men from all around the world that fought in the skies of southern England after the fall of France in 1940. The Poles and Czechs deserve special mention, as do the Canadians and New Zealanders. Also deserving of praise are the nine Americans who came across the Pond to fight for freedom, even before the US herself got involved.
Why is it silver? Well strictly speaking it’s not, it’s stripped back to its polished aluminium. This has been done mainly to highlight the beautiful lines of the craft, but also for a less pleasing reason. It’s a shame (and a sad comment on the times) that it was felt that this was “less provocative” than having it in WW II camo and insignia and make access easier in some countries. Any country that would feel “provoked” by such an icon of the greatest fight for freedom ever should take a long hard look at itself.
I hope you enjoy the wonderful images of this exquisite warbird as she circles the globe. Apologies again if this comes too late for you to see her in your part of the world. Maybe I’ll be able to get down to Goodwood and do an exclusive for BW on her return to Blighty, watch this space.
