Our Stories Matter

I have to admit that I’m not real worked up about the casting of The Little Mermaid. It might have something to do with the summer that my stepdaughter watched it a gazillion times until every adult head in the near vicinity was about to explode. It might also have to do with the fact that I’m currently anti-Disney. But I tend to agree with Matt Walsh. She shouldn’t be any color, she should be translucent.

That aside, I am definitely not happy with what Amazon has done with Tolkien. As someone who has read and reread LOTR since I was 15 years old, paid to have my name appear in the fan credits of all three Peter Jackson LOTR movies (extended versions), own more Tolkien books and memorabilia than any sane person should have, I believe our history, stories and literature matter.

Just as the left is trying to destroy and rewrite our history, they are also trying to destroy our literature. In response to why don’t they make their own stories, you’re right. They can’t. Evil cannot create – it can only destroy, (whether the destruction is consciously done or not).

In Tolkien’s mythology, Elves and Dwarves are not human. They were races unto themselves. So to apply human attributes to them is just an indication that the writers didn’t bother to understand, (or care about), the source material. Elves were tall, graceful and stately; and if someone made a movie with short, stocky elves, it would be just as offensive as it would have been done only as cheap pandering to all short, stocky people out there. But mainly, because it would be too large of a departure from the source, and to put it bluntly, an irritating lie big enough to ruin the story on its own.

I seem to recall that the powers-that-be at the Academy of Motion Pictures added rules regarding the inclusion of POCs in order to be considered for an award a few years ago. If that is true, that accounts for some of what they’re doing. I’m sure Bezos would love nothing more than to have an Oscar sitting on his mantle. The rest, is just woke B.S. being shoved down our throats.

I found this actor on YT that is into Tolkien and medieval reenactment. He responded when the trailer came out for Rings of Power. He states the arguments much more eloquently than I can.
