I originally did this topic twice. Once under the former, and again under the later.
I brought up different points in each so bear with me as I try and merge the two into a cohesive thought.
1st let me identify what the actual claim is. Green-house gasses are accumulating to the point that it is endangering the health of the planet. “Green-house gases” being a euphemism for “Carbon-Dioxide”.
The main result of a mammal exhaling (aka breathing). A mammal breathes in AIR made up of mostly Nitrogen and oxygen and exhaling mostly Nitrogen and Carbon-dioxide. And on the flip side of this, Plants take in Carbon-dioxide and produce Oxygen. (yes, this is over simplified but for this purpose it does not need to get more complicated than that).
Supposed experts suggested that the carbon-dioxide build up will warm the over-all temperature of the planet. Thus, melting the ice at the northern and southern poles causing the oceans to rise and ‘flooding out’ a great deal of our land masses.
Additionally, there has been the suggestion that the greenhouse gases will insulate the planet with massive cloud cover thus preventing the suns warmth from heating the planet surface and thus creating a new ice age.
Both of these suggestions are… PLAUSABLE.
My first contention is that the entire subject seems to have been politicized. If you believe what is been presented you get a good ole “attaboy! but what are you doing to spread the message”.
The tactics being used seem an awful lot like the tactic’s evangelists used in the 70’s and 80’.
I seem to see one side as being promoted and any contrary opinion as being dismissed as conspiracy theory.
It reminds me a lot of history when those that suggested the “world was round”, were pilloried and some were executed as heretics’.
Now we do not execute people these days. We “de-person” you.
The uses of these tactics make my “spider-sense” go crazy. We hear about the fact that there is a “consensus”. But wait a moment! Science is not determined by consensus. It is determined by PROOF! Every single model of the progression of “climate change” has proven to have been wrong. So how is it that there is a “consensus”?
My second contention is that I have been alive for over 50 years at this writing. I have been fascinated by the weather since my earliest childhood and I paid rather close to the weather even at the age of 5 or 6. My recollection seems to be that the weather patterns and over-all temperatures have been shifting warmer and colder my entire life. Living in the “Great-Lakes Region” I have witnessed that for many years in a row the temperatures were so low that the Lake froze over entirely and stayed that way all winter long. To the point people could and would drive their vehicles across the ice to get to various islands. I also recall many years in which it was so warm that you could go out in shorts between Thanksgiving and Christmas. These fluctuations have been going on my entire life and speaking with my grandparents and great grandparents would bring back stories going back 1 or 2 hundred years.
My third contention is: What is the proposed solution to this “problem”? I have yet to hear a coherent plan other than to propose a “carbon tax”. A TAX… on an individual’s breathing. Aside from the utter dystopian connotation that has, what will these taxes be spent on? I have not heard of a single proposal. Do they plan to use the money to plant trees? Construct plankton farms? (Btw the vast majority of the earth’s oxygen production is accomplished by plankton in the oceans. NOT the rain forests in Central America.) Also, who are those that will be responsible to paying these taxes? As far as I can tell these taxes will be leveled at the middle-class citizens of just a few supposedly wealthy countries. And who exactly will be administering these taxes to make sure these newly found moneys will be put to the most effective use? The entirety of this smacks of a massive Scheme or CON. There is an entire history in the USA of “green companies” getting massive amounts of subsidies and funding at taxpayer expenses only to collapse. The funds for which mysteriously evaporate.
Of all my points this one is the most egregious. Global warming at present seems to be a large scale “Swindling Campaign” designed to guilt the middle class into paying more taxes.
I think we would all be better off spending our time and efforts investigating how we can convert our landfills into methane and methanol plants to produce far cleaner and renewable portable fuels. Reducing our dependency on oil-based products. Rather than taxing the population for breathing and animals for farting.
I believe in human greed. Climate Change (Global warming) seems to me, to be a scam.
