Meanwhile, the coming lithium shortage threatens mass adoption of electric vehicles. All of this, because we’re trying to save the planet. Will our environmental concerns bring life to a standstill?

Not too many people have the money to wire their home for charging their vehicles.
The lithium paper is wrong. There are three forms of lithium the lithium salts found in high altitude salt lakes. Lithium rich clays. Lithium in the seas. The first is the one we mine today. All current lithium supplies and the writer is right that is limited. The second, the clays, is ten times bigger and Elon Musk is building a test plant in Utah to mine that. The last can be tapped if you have lots of sea water being processed, its a potential byproduct of desalination. A large stationary power source unsuited to powering cars or variable city power demand can be used to power desalination and sea water resources extraction. However there is Two easier green solutions. 1. Recycle the lithium from existing cells. Mill the cells to dust and then cook them in a furnace with highly reactive gasses. The lithium is extracted as lithium hydroxide from the end of the process. 2. make biofuel hybrid cars. These use half the lithium because long range and recharging is handled by ethanol, biodiesel or wood gas motors. All three are less efficient than petrol and have starting problems but in a hybrid drive train that irrelevant. In some environments ethanol is cheapest particularly if the distillation is on farm so the beer mash byproduct can be fed to livestock. The same is true for biodiesel. The high protein oil seed press cake can be livestock feed or fish food.
In the case of wood gas a new modernized design is needed. This technology turns 3 inch wood blocks into carbon monoxide gas and, with a catalyst, methanol vapor at the carbonator. The batteries provide the ease of operation and starting power. You also need a smoke filter to remove tars a farmable sea grass and sea weed material was used in WW2. Wood gas powered Swiss and Scandinavian vehicles all though WW2.
All these solutions have been put to the greens at the IPPC and rejected. Its not about clean energy its about taxing all economic activity at the energy level. Any technological solution that actually works as a tax dodge.
Another demonstration that, “self hatred” is a cultural feature, not just an individual consciousness issue.

That is the only way to ‘purify’ the planet it says…
Maybe the lithium would be better used as an antidepressant for those who have such fear? Yah, it has side-effects- but at least it might shut them up.
This earth has been trying to kill us since the introduction of mankind to the ecosystem. Carbon based fuels have been allowing us to fight back since their discovery/ introduction. So, if the seas are truly going to rise, and the climate get even rougher, I NEED more carbon fuels to fight it back. Every day I am thankful for the freedom that carbon based fuels have given me to fight back this harsh earth-based environment.
Thinking about getting a propane tank to prepare. This is why they like electric power. At any point, the can decide just to STOP the flow, and you are disabled. No other form of energy supply allows such immediate and total control.

The entire global climate crisis is a fucking lie. It’s all about power and money. All of us pee-ons have to change our entire way of life because these elitists think we’re too stupid to know when we’re being lied to.
The earth’s climate has always changed, and always will. We can’t make enough of a change to our way of life to affect the climate even by a little bit.
The UN and the WEF assume they get to have the final say on how we’re supposed to go forward with our puny, insignificant, lives while their way of life will only get better.
I say “F” every single one of them, Pelosi, Shumer, Nadler, Watters, etc.
Steve mentioned that there is not enough lithium for the world to de-carbonize. That is true.
However, even if there was enough lithium to convert all vehicles to electric, that still would not “de-carbonize” the planet. The energy required to charge all those vehicles would still produce every bit as much carbon as we produce now. The fraction of energy that wind, solar and hydro can produce is insignificant compared to the need (especially with electric vehicles). Only nuclear has the capacity to meet those power needs without CO2.
And why should we limit CO2 anyway? The entire demonization of CO2 is a based on lies.

The powers that be know this. That shortage is going to make those elements fabulously expensive. The powers that be know this too. That means average people won’t be able to afford personal transportation. This is the goal of the powers that be. This is why the Soviet Socialist Republik of Kalifornia has decreed by fiat that all automobiles sold in that state by the year 2035 must be electric. By 2035 they’ll be too expensive for most people to buy.
Lithium is a hazardous waste. The powers that be know this but they’re not making an issue of it. Lithium is a poison.
Carbon dioxide is plant food. Free plant food carried by the air. Global crop harvests have already increased by 10% from the very minor increase in atmospheric CO2 loading. This is because we have been slogging through a CO2 minimum and more CO2 would be better than less CO2.
Earth is 71% water. The warmer water is, the more readily it evaporates. The more water evaporates the more fresh water falls for free from the sky and the more places that water falls to the ground. Heating a planet that is three quarters water does not end up with a burned cinder of deserts and parched wastelands. Ocean water is largely unusable due to its salts and minerals content. Warming the oceans is free desalination.
Etc.
The powers that be are not trying to save the planet, they’re trying to kill as many human being as possible. Human beings that cooperate in their own hardship and demise deserve that kind of treatment. Don’t be one of those human beings, don’t encourage that kind of human being.
It’s an article in the Daily Mail UK dated 2020, but it notes Tesla and Musk bought 10,000 acres in Nevada desert to mine lithium. I thought that was pretty impressive until I converted to square miles and , um, that’s a pretty small plot of Nevada land. I have no other article about Tesla making it through the extensive permitting process in the last 2 years, and lockdowns probably didn’t help. Anyone know if Musk has made progress on this?
I loved his quote from 2020 “‘We found that we can actually use table salt, sodium chloride, to basically extract the lithium from the ore. Nobody has done this before to the best of my knowledge.’
The new approach will reportedly have minimal impact on the environment.
‘We take a chunk of dirt in the ground, extract the lithium, and put the chunk of dirt back where it was. It will look pretty much the same as before,’ the 49-year-old magnate said.
‘Nobody has done this before to our knowledge and it’s a very sustainable way of obtaining lithium, [since] all of the elements are reusable.’
You know climate change focus is all a big government power grab for one very good reason. Everything they want done is “defensive” instead of “offensive”. If elevated CO2 is the issue, creating ways to decrease CO2, going on the offense against the problem, would be something to pursue. But everything the government wants to do is on the side of making less CO2, going on the defense. They have gaslighted us so well that the earth will perish (“by 2015”) and terrible storms will wipe us all out (fewer storms predominate, actually) that we don’t look at facts and go along.
BTW, plants, animals, and mankind thrives when the earth is warmer.

We’re getting to the point where the only way to stop this idiocy will be for us Normals to go Master Blaster on the “elites”. In the Netherlands, when Brussels paves over the farms, then the farmers need to ration how much food gets shipped to Brussels. In PA, they want to shut down oil production? Fine, start cutting back on how much energy gets distributed to Philly, Pitt, and Harrisburg.

I can’t afford a new gas powered car much less a EV. Why is nobody talking about the current solar flare increase? I read that we are in a 10 year solar activity increase period that won’t end until after 2025. Plus the Earth is shifting it’s axis which happens every 100k years as well. So if the planet wants us dead, it will happen no matter what we do.
In the “big picture”, the earth is currently the coldest it has ever been. The earth’s temperature is determined by the temperature at the bottom of the deepest oceans. Fifty million years ago there was no ice on the planet. There was a tropical rain forest up to the North Pole. The temperature in the deepest oceans was +12 degrees centigrade (determined by core sampling). The temperature has been steadily dropping ever since. Depending on which ocean you choose, the temperature is about -8 degrees centigrade. It’s not a straight line drop. It’s a zig-zig line. In the big picture these peaks and valleys can be decades to hundreds of years. In a five million year time line, those periods appear rapid. So, currently we are in an upward “zig” but the trend is downward. In hundreds or thousands of years we will looking for carbon sources to warm us up.
It’s not going to take hundreds of years. Most of Europe is scrambling to find carbon sources to warm them up this very winter.
The real question is “Are they going to learn the correct lesson from their folly?”
Hope so. They were on the leading edge of clean nuclear energy until the pulled the plug. As in recent memory.
However, When’s the last time you ever heard a politician on either side of the pond say “oopsie, I guess we (I) fcked up! We’ll go back to the other better way, and I’m sorry everone!”
This is going to be one hard lesson for everyone over there.
