Another BRILLIANT episode of rational, common sense gentlemen. Remember, Common Sense (CS) is just one letter away from (BS); the chosen approach of the hysteria peddlers. Also, you will recall the great words of wisdom uttered by the former mayor of Chicago who said, ‘Never let a crisis go to waste.’

Bill, minor correction: I believe you stated that the Spanish Flu mortality was in the 40% range. CDC has an article on Spanish flu where they say case fatality rate (CFR) was >2.5%. They also estimate 50 million deaths out of 500 million cases, which for anyone that can do math is 10% CFR. They also site an article that estimates that there could have been as many as 100 million deaths – 20%. We’ll have to wait a few weeks (or months) for better numbers, but based on the facts there have been only 31 US deaths so far and 19 of those happened at a senior care facility in Washington, I suspect CFR for COVID-19 among the general US population will be less than 1%. There will likely be pockets (maybe many of them) that hit senior care facilities which in itself is a good reason for all people to practice prevention measures.

The hysteria over covid 19 on the “news” every night, has me wanting to rip my hair out. It’s gotten so crazy that I find myself nostalgic for the old days of wall to wall impeachment coverage.

I read long time ago, referencing why Asian people seem to wear those medical masks often, the masks are not supposed to filter out disease or anything like that. The purpose is to discourage the user from touching their mouth and nose. Which we unconsciously do a lot. The idea is that your hands touch infected people or touch surfaces that still contain the virus. As Bill’s said, skin is excellent defense against infection but your mouth, nose and eyes are holes in that skin that the virus can enter your body through. The mask discourages that. Eye glasses are probalaby good enough to do the same thing for your eyes.

Much appreciated; a very rational perspective. Though not containable, the resultant mass attention to hygiene and hyper awareness of limited touching of one’s own face and needless of touching of common surfaces might, at least initially, somewhat diminish the general spread of the common cold and flu.

Cruise ships have been worse incubators for disease than elementary schools for much longer than this round of Kung Flu.

New cheaper faster testing kits are already in testing, Roche, and will be available by the time of the cruise. All ships will probably be testing by May. The ships will be refunding if they can’t sail; that will be in the legislation in the USA.

Can’t wait to get on the plane, fly to Miami, and go on the Stratocruise with you guys! Maybe we will get lucky and get trapped on the pleasure island! LOL
