Freedom loving states should pass laws requiring companies who wish to operate in that state to protect legal speech or be banned from that state. This could be expanded to apply to other forms of “friction” such as biased algorithms, shadow banning, etc. This is an achievable goal since any politician who does not support enforcing free speech could be voted out of office or recalled. This should not be a partisan issue and would be a good place to start.

Sorry to disagree with the banning of companies that limit speach. Removal of carrier protections, yes, definitely. That rule could limit religious institutions from demanding only what they believe. I also heard of making Facebook and Twitter public utilities. As such, you’d have to pay to use them, and they cannot cut you off unless you don’t pay. (Like the phone company used to be) They also cannot use what you have without permission. (The water company can’t tell you how to use or not use water or use it themselves. The government may limit watering your lawn, but that is not the water company.) Likewise, electric, heat and air conditioning. I like the idea.
A big first step would be declaring personal data as property.
