Return of the Anti-Heroes/Villains?

This election certainly seems to be playing out like the final act of an action pact adventure. Our hero and his army are faced with overwhelming and seemingly insurmountable odds. Over the last several of days, I’ve been wondering where the hell leaders on the Right, like Mitch McConnell and Bill Barr have been hiding? Why is it only now that they choose to show themselves? Now, I don’t believe it’s part of some master plan put in place by Trump, McConnell, or anyone else to present themselves as heroes in the final hour. No, the answer is much more instinctive than that.

People like McConnell, Barr, and Graham maybe Republicans, but that’s not the only hat they wear. They part of the political machine we could affectionately refer to as the Beast. They have just as much in common with the Democrats as they don’t. Prior to the election, it really didn’t matter to them who won the Presidency, for they could weather the storm if they kept their heads down. So why is it now that they are coming forward to defend Trump?

I believe it’s because the political winds didn’t shift like they thought it would. Trump and his supporters have chosen to fight, rather than fade away into that goodnight. Now the “soft Republicans” are being threatened on two fronts: their supposed “enemies” on the Left and their declared “allies” on the Right. It’s possible that this is just part of the theater, and are putting on a show in order to save face. However, if they wish to avoid being destroyed by the Beast and abandoned by their base, they only have one choice. Standing with Trump has now become their only real chance of survival, and it could very well reward them in the end.

I, for one, had just about given up hope, but there does seem to be something powerful in this thing that has become the MAGA Movement. It’s something that has persisted, despite all odds. This may even be enough to chance the presumed course of the election, lest those with the power to decide wish to let the country spiral out of control. A new Beast has risen to challenge the Status Quo.
