Right Angle: Backstage (05-12-2020)

Right Angle with Stephen Green, Scott Ott and Bill Whittle, starts with the etymology of ‘grim milestone’ and gets peppier from there. Thank you to you, dear Member, for making the effort to endure this.

“Oppress them! Oppress them! Make them relinquish the ball!”

Re: spaceports in Texas. Both SpaceX and Blue Origins already have working private facilities for launching and testing, though I think both of them have so far only been used for rocket testing. The Blue Origins site is in West Texas, while the SpaceX site is almost on the beach where the Rio Grande empties into the Gulf of Mexico.

Additionally, Ellington Airport (formerly AFB) near the JSC has been designated a commercial spaceport by the Houston-area transport authority, designating areas for development in an effort to attract commercially-oriented space industry, particularly startups. Boeing has a big building there and there are several startups. I think all of the currently built facilities are rented, not aware of any actual new construction taking place. Also, I don’t think there are any plans for rockets to launch from there, only airplane-style vehicles. (The area surrounding Ellington is far too developed for rocket launches.)

First time I’ve watched one of these sessions, and Scott’s quoting my comment 🙂 Now I REALLY want to go watch COVID Fatigue, and I was iffy on it before.

Fun watching you guys work it out. And of COURSE you have to give Elon Musk to Bill! (already watched that one, by the way).

So, long time member, first time watcher of “Behind the Scenes”. 🙂

Interesting point about the Amercican ex-pats. In my last job i worked with a couple of American women, both left of centre, one very much much so. They both liked to give the impression they were sort of refugees from “Trump’s America” and got very annoyed if you pointed out they both actually came to live in the UK during the Obama administration.

Steve, that was Olympia Beer. From Wiki: The Beer was brewed with water obtained from artesian wells. The company’s promotions made much of the use of artesian water in the brewing process. However, the advertisements never explained what artesian water was.

Bill,
If you lost Granny at a rest stop between West Texas and New Mexico, how do you conclude she was left in Arizona? I’m baffled by the possible travel routes that you may have taken.
Thanks for the laugh.

Perhaps we should record that too. In consists, primarily, of three of us scrambling to make sure all of the switches are toggled, buttons pressed, and levers thrown.

So the same as the first 8 minutes of the member chats. Good to know.

I think Stephen’s story about the Grim Mile Stone is warranted just to bring some perspective. The one underlying truth in every topic presented is ALL of this was brought to you by Government, every bit of it.

Not all of it…
We have others – greedy capitalists in benevolent sheep’s clothing – trying to make money behind the scenes off this pandemic.
