I am so sick of hearing about the extraordinarily high cost of college when so many of these institutions spend money on new and renovated buildings.
When caller ID shows that an incoming call is from the area code & local exchange of my alma mater, I don’t answer it any more. It’s usually from a student volunteer, calling to ask if I would like to donate to the annual fund so as “to make an education at _______ University possible for future students”. The curmudgeonly thought that runs through my mind is: “If the university wanted to help make an education possible for more students, they could cut this building binge that they’ve been on for the past twenty years and tighten their belts”. Internet cafes, fitness centers, art museums, townhouses and the list goes on, with few of the amenities having anything to do with academics.

Note: The hospitals bill indigents precisely because charities eventually pay. There is another problem in some hospitals in the poorest cities; 5% of the people are jane doe1234, or joe doe4321 etc. I.E. They never get enough accurate information to know who they are treating. The person either lies about their ID, is too incoherent to answer any questions or is an Illegal immigrant so there are no records to connect to. Sometimes the hospital ends up treating an insane person several times before getting enough clues to find their ID on a database or missing persons list. Once a woman who had walked out on her young family was found 30 years later in a nursing home in a town she had lived in as a child. She left home to go get the kids from school, had a stroke and was sent ‘home’ to her child hood town by a helpful charity.
Someone in Australia makes a pen and note pad combination that not only works in the rain but works down to 200 meters in the sea and is used by researchers on the great barrier reef, etc. We also have someone that makes a lap top that good for 400 meters and gets wifi under 4 meters of water. Sadly I believe the computers are not actually made in Australia only invented here at CSIRO.
Trump did not set up Pence on Jan 6, the constitution does that. When Pence knew that they had lost all the Rino’s and 5 others after the congress ‘break-in’ (breakout) he had to rule in favor of Biden. However there is a catch. If it came to a vote Biden would be safe but a declarative decision by Pence can be reversed in a court. Both Pence and Trump have said things to indicate that that is the intention.

No, I am not afraid of much and definitely not afraid of being called a stalker. I don’t really remember the question, as I was preoccupied with furniture shopping. I knew he lived in McKinney and thought he sold electronics but that was apparently old information. I ran into Scott again while buying flooring and he said I should check out this episode. 🙂

I’ve never had much luck with those erasable type things. I use Rhodia or Clairefontaine paper and make my own inserts for my Midori Traveler. I have one of those old huge paper cutter guillotine things you can lose a finger on if you’re not paying attention and I just cut lined and dot grid paper to suit.
I use the passport sized traveler’s notebook and keep it in my back pocket. The leather holds up well to sweat and torque and the fountain pen ink I use (usually one of the Rohrer and Klingner iron galls in a TWSBI Eco) doesn’t run or feather when it gets moist so …
To each his own I guess. I don’t remember from the video if Scott said why he uses a notebook. For me it’s my backup memory for all the things I’m likely to forget if I don’t write them down. One of the sections is dedicated solely to my fishing notes and logs. The rest is just odd stuff that I want to remember. Like the ingredients to a cocktail, a frequency/PL tone combination or a grocery list.
The government should get out of the student loan business and let the colleges self-fund them. I think there would be fewer “studies” graduates who can’t pay back their loans.
