Scott watches the ‘dispicably shallow’ Barbie movie and discovers he doesn’t much care for it; we talk reactors, Rickover and reliability; young men are swinging conservative, a Buick hawk overflies the Whittle residence and when it comes to disciplining kids Bill advises, ‘spare the strappado, spoil the child…’ All this and so much less on this edition of Right Angle: Backstage!

Scott, the Barbie abomination doesn’t deserve the word “film,” but “filth.”
Bill: “Don’t follow the data, follow the science.” BRILLIANT! LOL
Steve: “It’s amazing we have any existentials at all.” LOL
Nuclear Reactors — the latest news seems to be SMRs (Small Modular Reactors) such as the ones that BWX Technologies is developing. From their web site:
The transportable design consists of multiple modules that contain the microreactor’s components in 20-foot long, ISO-compliant CONEX shipping containers. The reactor is designed to be safely and rapidly moved by road, rail, sea or air. The entire reactor system is designed to be assembled on-site and operational within 72 hours. Shut down, cool down, disconnection and removal for transport is designed to occur in less than seven days.
Disclaimer: I have absolutely no investment of any kind in BWX Technologies. But this could be a game changer in energy.
The story about Natasha and trucks was adorable. “I vant von of dese.” Thanks Bill.
Now that comments are accepted, I want to express my continued and growing appreciation for Scott, along with congratulations on his anniversary. We celebrated our 54th back in May, and I found your remarks about the depth of your commitment to be both pertinent and moving. (My wife has PD and has had three back surgeries, as well as other medical issues.) Back in late 1969, when I passed my draft physical with flying colors, my wife informed me in no uncertain terms that I wouldn’t be going to Vietnam without her having at least one child of mine, so we abandoned birth control. I was working as a photo lab technician at the time, most of the time by myself in the darkroom, with a radio playing. The song, “Turn Around,” came on, and I broke down, knowing I had a child on the way (though I didn’t know it was a girl) and that there was no way I could stop the flow of time. Now, turning 75 next month, I wouldn’t change a bit of it. God knows our end from our beginning, and His plans are good and gracious, whatever they look or feel like to us in the middle of it all.
I’m watching this episode a week late but wanted to congratulate Scott on his anniversary. My son is getting married next month and I’m going to have him and his bride watch your advice section for sustaining a happy marriage. Beautiful!
Also congratulations to Natasha for getting her driver’s license and a car of her own and especially for overcoming her fears due to accidents in the past. So happy for her.
Also to Steve for raising two boys who seem to understand how fortunate they are to have been born in America and have parents who value responsibility and hard work.
About the oil replenishing itself. Check the Blog I put here recently with the title starting “A modest proposal”
I show how we can make our own oil….and have made some components both in the lab and large amounts.
Only big problem, and I reference it, is energy cost.
My father was a nuclear engineer who helped build the power plants for the Nautilus, the Enterprise, and, I believe, the USS Long Beach. I still have his tie clip of the Nautilus and a lighter with the Long Beach on the front. I think the guided missile cruiser Long Beach was the only one of its class.
My Dad’s office, and my childhood bedroom, held many pictures and models of those ships in addition to samples of fuel rod assemblies and other fascinating items for a young boy.
One of the better Backstage shows ever.
Thank you Scott, for reminding me of an old ear worm from my childhood…
Trailers for sale or rent….
from the original SNL skit….
“Quien Es Mas Macho!”
Roger Miller? o Ricardo Montalban? o Scott Ott? o Road Rider?
…..(I have the Ford F-150 and the Trailer!)
YAY!!! Bill fixed it!
Now I have an excuse to watch this Back Stage and the Pee Wee Herman R/A again. So I can remember what it is I was going to comment about.
Which I will gladly do. This is like getting a twofer.
I have to watch it again, as I have no idea what comments I was going to make.
Other than if you take all of the waste generated from all of the reactors ever used in the USA, my understanding is it can be contained in a space roughly the size of one football field’s ENDZONE.
Not the whole field. The end zone.
530 sq yards.
Fixed! Sorry about that. We had updated all of our plug-ins and there was a small change in the posting protocols. Thanks for the heads-up.
I still think you were losing your title of worst produced show on the internet to some upstart and had to do something to pull back ahead.
Cenk Ungyr and The Young Turks. New champions of the Worst Show on the Internet. Sorry Bill….you just have to try less.
