Why does the universe have to be a cruel mistress! I posted earlier this year about the EARN IT Act that deals with make Encryption Communications. Now a new bill that seems to have broad Republican approval is being introduced – S.4051 aka “Lawful Access to Encrypted Data Act”
The Senate {Both Democrats and Republicans} seems to have an unhealthy fascination with “encryption backdoors” in order to satiate Law Enforcement egos. If this power were to be available to the United States Government, this will be no better than China and its power to surveil citizens digitally. The US Senate Judiciary committee does not seem to digitally trust the American People.
We currently in a Republican administration, but what if the administration were/becomes Democrat. Think of the implications that would rise. If Obama was able to go against Conservatives without this power, it makes me shudder to think of the possibilities of future Socialist administrations having this broad power.
