Scam/Extortion Warning

If this posts correctly, I received basically what I’d call an extortion email that I just found in my spam today.  I’m fairly certain the “source” but I don’t care much except that I consider it a “threat”.  It’s been shared publicly and reported to our AZ Governor’s office, among others.  Our governor was cloned at one time, which I reported to his office as well.  I’m certain they have the right people pursuing the issue, but just in case anyone here is concerned, check  your “spam” files too.  Some funny stuff going on out there.

This con has been going around for a year or so. They send this out wholesale like spammers. There are databases full of stolen user names & passwords available since so many online services have been hacked over the years. Because a lot of people have a habit of reusing passwords some % will have used whatever stolen password they’ve got on a porn site.

The email directs you to google drive by exploiting. When you do that, one of the searches directs you to this very email, exposing it as a scam. That’s the standard MO with these guys. Initially, they prey on fear. But dig even a little further, and their scam falls like a house of cards.

For the record, they cant put unattended access software on your machine without your help. They need a password that the program gives you on your end.

These guys are getting more and more malicious, but chances are high they are just blowing smoke.

You can right-click on the image for the article on the blog page and open the image in a new tab to get an enlarged view. I don’t think it’s complete, there’s usually a bitcoin wallet id to pay off the extortionists.
