I’ve been disgusted by Simone Biles’s quitting and her excuse for doing so as well as the media’s reaction to it and some people just don’t understand why others are upset by this. Well this article showing how Carli Lloyd responded to a loss shows the stark contrast of how I would expect a top notch olympic athlete to act and they are in similar situations.
Simone Biles at 24 years old and the end of her career turned in probably the worst performance she’s had after being one of the best gymnasts ever and proceeded to quit in the middle of the match, letting her team and country down, and then dropped out of the individual competition. Afterwards she somewhat gleefully talked about how she did it because she wasn’t having fun, there was a lot of pressure, and she needed to focus on her mental health. She sounded very much like a spoiled brat and the media praised her as a hero for it.
In contrast, Carli Lloyd from the US Women’s Soccer team (yes they have their issues and I unfortunately am rooting against them right now also but from what I saw she has been one of the few continuing to stand for the national anthem.) which had an incredible 44 game win streak suffered two losses in a row in this olympics. Carli Lloyd is also at then end of her career at the age of 39. Instead of quitting because it wasn’t fun, Carli went out there after the match, on her own to run some sprints. That is how an athlete should respond, by getting back out there and working hard to get past that loss and get ready for the next match, not calling it quits because its not fun. Simone Biles definitely isn’t a hero and Carli Lloyd isn’t a hero either, but as far as who little girls should look up to as a role model the media needs to stop propping up entitled quiters like Simone Biles and instead put women like Carli Lloyd out there as a much better example. Unfortunately I doubt that will happen.

well…lloyd is white and biles is black so right from the jump it’s pretty obvious who is going get the msm love and attention, especially considering the white chick did the unthinkable by standing for our country. it’s a no brainer actually.
