When U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a drone strike on Iran’s Quds Force leader Qassem Soleimani, he says it was to prevent an attack and perhaps stop a war. But many on the American Left say he made the region even more unstable and may have lit the fuse for World War III. If the Islamic Republic of Iran reacts with a strike on U.S. assets, personnel or allies, should the President ask Congress for a declaration of war? And hasn’t Iran been at war with the U.S. since the 1979 hostage crisis?

wow – how does Scott do it, only once did i see a slight smile pass by his lips – otherwise he was rock solid….
Only one question: Did Scott give Bill a heads up that he’d be “adjusting” his approach?! Amazing, both.
“Better people than them are on the job” actually brought tears to my eyes. Thank you, Bill, for your righteous indignation on behalf of our military (of which my son is one). ❤️
I love my president!
Scott, you play the liberal fool way too well. Your aggressive interruptions annoy the living shit out of me.
Don’t forget he went to journalism school and knows them very, very well. The “journolistas” on the morning shows would not let any R guests answer questions. Just kept talking right over them.
hahahahaha
People have not grasped the magnitude of the take down of Qassem Soleimani. The Mullahs are Hitler. Soleimani was Von Manstein, Joseph Goebbels and Heinrich Himmler all rolled into one package! We got him.
They are belligerent but now they are scared. The guys firing rockets at the US bases and Embassy did not get more than a mile away from their launch site before being taken out quietly.
What’s the odds that wasn’t an accidental stampede at the funeral that killed 60 and injured 200 yesterday. In some cases a fake bomb is better that a real one. The main funeral ceremony has been postponed with no time public. The Imams and Mullah’s can’t safely attend.
I also suspect that US Cyber command has been countering the Iranian cyber attacks with a few big ones of their own.
The Air liner that was flying out to Ukraine and crashed at Tehran was probably significant. did someone with an anti-air battery panic?
Now the Iranians are saying Qassem Soleimani is avenged sufficiently.
The fighters and bombers were just cover for weapons the US does not yet want to admit it has.
May I ask what sources you use? I’ve been impressed with the info you share. Best, Debbie
I have read the Hadith, the Sira and most of the Koran.
Mohammad’s life was perfect (the Sira) and must be copied in every possible way. This is the most basic Islamic directive. The dualistic nature of his life makes it impossible to know if a Muslim will go violent. Death is the only solution I know of.
Other reports say that most of the Iraqi congress did not have enough people for a quorum, or barely enough, and thus the vote doesn’t mean anything. It would be like 60% of the Democrats in the house showing up to vote for Impeachment… none of the opposition and some of their own not present really cuts the legs out from any statement you wish to make.
Is it “Congress’ power to declare war” or isn’t that part of the Senate’s powers? Does Nancy have any pull in this?
With our overwhelming firepower, technological advantage and air superiority there will never be a need for a draft again. I think too many people now are being fed lies by the Outrage Machine to get them anxious and without any history classes do not know the reason we even had one. There is no point in grabbing every Tom, Dick and Harry off the street, training them for 6 months to use an M1 and sending them off to trenches. We would only need a bunch of bodies to occupy a territory, not fight a massed enemy army. If we ever ran into a situation where there were a million soldiers countering us, we’d just drop a couple bomb and flatten their base. Since only China can match us in numbers of manpower and as I highly doubt we’ll be invading China for any reason, fighters and bombers will do the job.
With our increasing AI and robotics, we’ll probably have remote controlled turrets able to keep any restless populace calm should it come to that.
Scot, Bill, step away from the mikes and take a deep breath. Bill, you are correct. We have an all volunteer force, and any war will be long over before anyone would think about a draft let alone build, equip, and train an army of draftees. Scot, tell those poor children to quite worrying. They’re all to fat and out of shape to qualify for military service. Indeed, one of the facts troubling our military leaders today is that there may not be enough qualified candidates to fill the all-volunteer force. They couldn’t pass the basic physical qualifications. They couldn’t pass the exams measuring literacy. Those poor dears will simply have to stay in their parent’s basements and suck on sugar, smoke dope, and pray that no one ever points a gun at them.
On a little more serious note… My dad was a little upset when I got my draft card in 1972. We went to a little diner for lunch to “talk” about it.. short version – Dad understood WWII but was not sure about this Vietnam thing. He went so far as to offer me Canada. I simply told him that the fact we could sit in a public place where everyone can hear and discuss this without two guys in trench coats taking us away was pretty great and worth fighting for. I did not get drafted and I did not enlist but I didn’t run either… I left it to the fates… If Scott may be worrying about his boys, can’t blame him. Every parent does. My grandma and grandpa worried terribly about my dad in the navy 1942-45… My dad was extremely fortunate and came home in one piece…. There is NO draft now, but I had a “twinge” when I watched my boys fill out the registration card and send it in…. It’s OK Scott – God Bless
“I am having a hard time imagining somebody old enough to be concerned about this being that badly misinformed about how things work in the world.”
I’ve been teaching high school and college for the last twenty years, and I can assure you that the vast majority are absolutely that badly misinformed (and not just about this).
President Trump’s response to the assault on our embassy in Iraq was Jeffersonian and appropriate. He did not deploy 100,000 troops and begin an Iraq war sequel. He sent the US Marine Corps, about 100 troops, to secure the embassy and a brigade of Airborne troops to back them up. Then, he struck the vehicle carrying the mastermind of the assault and his deputy with a precision bomb, killing them.
I like to use the example of how Thomas Jefferson responded to the Barbary Pirates during his tenure as President as to how we should operate in these matters.
President Jefferson sent the US Marine Corps to Tripoli and attacked the pirates base of operations, killed their leader, burned their ships, and sent a message that American ships and people would be left alone or there would be hell to pay, and then they came home.
An embassy is considered native soil.
Diplomacy is a major component of avoiding war, and diplomats are treated by any civilized nation as untouchable, as they should be. In fact, that is why attacking an embassy or consulate is considered an act of war.
The aircraft did not bomb a civilian airport, it bombed a road leading away from the airport.
“The War Powers Resolution of 1973 gives the president the power to commit troops anywhere he likes for 90 days.”
The War Powers Resolution. Section 2(c) provides that the president’s power to initiate military action is limited to “(1) a declaration of war, (2) specific statutory authorization, or (3) a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.” But at the same time, it authorizes the president to introduce military force for up to 90 days for any reason at all.
If Trump sends troops to invade Iran, I would oppose it as tremendously as I would oppose any other unconstitutional war. However, this action was a “clean shoot!” These men were outside of their own nation, carrying out attacks on diplomats and American citizens! They needed to be eliminated post haste!
This is how it should be done protecting our citizens and interests abroad. This was Jeffersonian, and I approve 100%!
Fantastic argument, Bill. You nailed it with what I took as your stated concern that our American citizens who have reached or are reaching the age where they may have to defend our country are worried about possibly having to actually serve their country. Damn them and the wimps that think that way. And more importantly, damn those in the news media who are consistently telling these young people that America is the bad guy in the world today. We aren’t and may God bless this nation.
Soleimani: Will there pallets of cash, just like last time?
Trump: Sure it will be at the Baghdad airport, wait for it there.
I think Scott’s anger in this issue was real, not feigned. He has skin in this game–two young sons who are the right age to be drafted.
This time, it really WAS personal. <3
Good thing there’s no draft then, huh?
Bill, I agree with you 100% but you are going to give Scott high blood pressure!
Scott’s lov’n it. Second best troll in the game and the 1st is in the Oval office.
Glad y’all are back.. I know you needed a Christmas / new Years break, but glad to see you again…. ALSO, did Scott’s Blood pressure and heart rate go up just a little in this one ?? It must be very difficult for him to play “devils advocate” and keep his cool as well as he does… Bill, I’m sure your mom taught you to “play nice”, but I understand the point of these “encounters”. Very interesting debate and a wonderful new year to you both.. God Bless —
No, this is not World War three. The mullahs don’t have the balls to actually go toe to toe. They will fume, they will sputter, then they will back down. My only hope is that they push just the slightest bit more so that the president can flatten their entire oil industry.
As someone who served under President Ronald Reagan. I am very thankful President Trump took action to save service members lives. Our service members are a very precious resource. None should be wasted. There is a limited finite quantity of young gifted individuals willing to voluntarly serve this great nation. There could be more if the media and the left stopped their constant war on the United States of America. Those of us who serve do not want drafted individuals who do not want to be our brothers and sisters in arms. Bo Bergdahl caused enough problems can you imagine thousands of them in uniform?
Assassination??? You should really watch your selection of words. That cat was military. Assassination = impossible.
It’s good to have y’all back. I’m looking forward to another year.
It would be fun to see Scott and Bill swap roles on some of these BWN’s. I, at the very least, would love to hear both express their unfiltered opinions on the various subjects explored.
Interesting idea. Have to think about it. First reaction: But isn’t that RA? Arguing from the other’s position, as in debate practice, could be useful – as well as painful – for Bill, though.
We should keep in mind that the government has classified information that we are not privy to and likely won’t be, and this terrorist was a legitimate military target from a country that declared war on the United States and who was in a foreign country fomenting more attacks on US citizens. Trump did not strike back until a US citizen was killed. And doing so for that reason is entirely legitimate. But I think this was actually a strong statement to the so-called Deep State, who I believe were in league with many of these terrorists in Iran in creating numerous wars for the purpose of moving lots of money between special interest groups. John Kerry, for example, who keeps going to Iran to discuss something with Iranian leadership, making you wonder what other “deals” the Obama administration had going with Iran that causes Kerry to keep going? Who has been bribed and bought off by the Deep State communities to keep this proxy war going? Who is making money?
Congress has to declare war if we have a war. If that is necessary, then they will be consulted to declare it. But for a military strike to protect American lives, POTUS clearly has that authority.
I think the DS is panicking as they did not expect anyone to openly attack their proxies. I think this is one message we are on to them. This was not a war attack, it was a surgical strike. If we send six carrier groups to level Iran that would be war, not taking out some terrorists in a car. As for spineless millennials, I would remind them of their forebears, one of whom said “ask not what you country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” Also, Iran is NOT the Soviet Union, nor the PRC. Heck they aren’t even North Korea. Their economy has been hard hit with sanctions and has numerous internal issues, one of which is the fact that Soleimani murdered several hundred Iranian protestors recently who were unhappy with his rule. Their Air Force and Navy are no match for ours and we have no intent to occupy Iran. They have no nuclear missiles, only conventional cruise missiles, so no, this is not WWIII. It was designed to put Iran and their co-conspirators between a rock and a hard place: either commit to war (and destruction of Iran) or negotiate with Trump. If they escalate and we remove their ability to sell oil, then their economy will collapse and its over. This same DS-colluding media fear mongering was used before, only months ago when Trump confronted North Korea. Next, I would point out that the U.S. military learned in Vietnam the weakness of using conscripts. In a true World War conscripts might be required, as it was in WWII when national survival was at stake. Our national survival is not at stake from Iran, and for the most part the military wants only volunteers to do the mission. They do it better than conscripts, they aren’t dodgers of duty and they are far more patriotic, which means they don’t run away. So, don’t worry about being drafted, even though I think it’s a civic duty to be eligible for it. If their is an actual WWIII. it will be nuclear and over before you can be sent anywhere. It it’s not a World War, then better people than you are already on the job, true patriots who believe in America and not just in their own self-interest. If you’re not an American patriot, then you aren’t qualified to represent America in battle. Oh, and as you go through life worrying about pop singers, lattes and movies, consider growing a spine. It will help you face life.
I posted these on YouTube.
Reagan nearly destroyed the Iranian navy after an FFG struck a mine in the Persian Gulf.
As we know, it doesn’t take a student loan to register for selective service. Every male citizen (and lawful permanent residents?) must register within 30 days of their 18th birthday.
Yea, the reason the young ones get confused is that if you haven’t registered, you can’t apply for Fed Student Loans.
I remember having to talk to my daughter’s friends a few years back and giving them a history lesson they should have gotten freshman year in high school.
